4 MBC I Research Report Vote iorthe Future This 11 May, some 34 million registered voters will have the opportunity to cast their vote and elect their President and Vice President along with the Senators, Congressmen, Provincial Governors and Vice Governors, City Mayors and Vice Mayors, and all Councilors - positions nationwide. a total of 17,428 elected These elections come at a critical and important juncture of our nation's history. With the nation and the region faced by economic challenges, it is important to elect a leader with the capability to steer the country clear of further trouble. As we face the 21st century, it is important we elect a leader with a clear vision of where he wants to take the country in the next century. Moreover, we need a leader who can be a model of integrity and honesty, who can inspire a people to follow and make the necessary sacrifices to put the country back on the right track. The Vote for the Future project is a modest effort to try to get to know these candidates a little better, first by getting some background information about them and second by trying to determine what their political platforms are. This report is an attempt to review the track record and probe deeper into tile tilinking of each candidate. Through this, we hope to help voters discern and make the right decision in casting their Vote for the Future. The persons elected President and Vice President will serve a term of six years - the last three of this century and the first three of the next millenium. Of the nine candidates vying for the second highest position. of the land, little detail is yet known on how they will carry on with the responsibilities of a vice president.
