8 COMMENCEMENT DINNER ADDRESS Raymond E. De Crane Business Editor, The Cleveland Press, Ray, as he is known to the nation's newspaper readers, has been a newspaperman all of his professional life. His only employer has been The Cleveland Press. It was in the depression days of 1932 that Ray entered John Carroll University where he enrolled as a pre-medical student. But the depression changed his future and forced Ray to settle for his second choice - journalism. He continued his education at night college, but never earned the required hours for his degree. His tenure at The Press began the day after he graduated from West High School. He worked that summer and then started part-time employment at night while a student at Carroll. That continued to be his pattern throughout college days - full-time in the summer, and then part-time while going to school. He has held nearly every writing job at The Press, from court reporter to labor editor, from city editor to business editor, the post he has held for almost the last 10 years. Along the way he became interested in tax matters and is now a recognized authority on income tax. His syndicated columns on income tax appear in more than 300 newspapers. His annual book, "Cut Your Own Taxes," has earned him the Meritorious Service Award 'from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue. Ray is listed in Who's Who in America.

11 THE ASSOCIATE IN PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT DEGREE PROGRAM This ceremony marks the completion of the seventh class of the Associate in Professional Management Degree program presented by John Carroll University's School of Business. This program was conceived in the belief that the strength of the nation's business depends, for a large part, upon the continuous upgrading of managerial potentials so as to meet the dynamic needs of an expanding economy. The program is especially designed to provide educational opportl~nities for those individuals who, having experienced several years of management responsibility, are motivated toward furthering the development of their expertise so that they may effectively command far greater responsibility within the business community. The curriculum offers concentrated study in the functional areas of business including marketing, accounting, finance, and economics. Human areas examine intrapersonal behavior, group dynamics, decision making, leadership, communication and motivation. These topical areas are interwoven with investigations of the social, economic, and political environment of business. All of which, augmented with an analysis of managerial and organizational theory, direct the candidate toward the development of a dynamic and personal philosophy of management.

12 W e pray Thee, 0 almighty and eternal God, who through Jesus Christ hast revealed Thy glory to all nations, to preserve the works of Thy mercy; that Thy church, being spread through the whole world, may continue, with unchanging faith, in the confession of Thy name. We pray Thee, 0 God of might, wisdom, and justice, th rough whom authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment decreed, assist, with Thy Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude, the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to Thy people over whom he presides, by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion; by a f aithful execution of the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality. Let the light of Thy divine wisdom direct the deliberations of the Congress, and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our 1 ule and government; so that they may tend to the preservation of peace, the promotion of national happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety, and useful knowledge, and may perpetuate to us the blessings of equal liberty. We pray for his Excellency, the Governor of this State, f or the members of the Assembly, for all judges, magistrates, and other officers who are appointed to guard our political welfare; that they may be enabled, by Thy powerful protection, to discharge the duties of their respective stations with honesty and ability. We recommend likewise to Thy unbounded mercy all our brethren and fellow-citizens, throughout the United States, that they may be blessed in the knowledge, and sanctified in the observance of Thy most holy law; that they may be preserved in union and in that peace which the world cannot give; and, after enjoying the blessings of this life, be admitted to those which are eternal.
