3 NINTH MEETING OF INDIA-US HIGH TECHNOLGOY COOPERATION GROUP Thursday, November 20 th, 2014 : Taj Mahal Hotel, Mansingh Road, New Delhi hrs Introductory Remarks by hrs Break out Session on Lifesciences Session Coordinator: FICCI Indian Private Sector Chair: Ms. Sushma Berlia, President, Apeejay Stya Group* U.S. Private Sector Chair: Mr. Sanjay Banerjee, Regional Managing Director- South Asia, Zimmer hrs Make in India: Creating the Foundations and Framework for an Innovative Med-Tech and Health IT Industry The Government of India has rightfully identified medical devices as one of the key sunshine sectors for its Make in India campaign. Clinicians, researchers, and technology experts are the building blocks for a collaborative and innovative medical device and medical technology industry. A predictable regulatory environment, including the sharing of best practices in standardization, and recognition of the device industry through a set of regulations and incentives distinct from drugs - is the foundation. Given these inputs, such an environment manifests itself in hubs where clinical research is fostered in areas like non-communicable diseases. Symbiotic relationships between small and large companies provide the financial backing, aside from traditional financing mechanisms, and create a start-up culture that sustains growth. Technology collaborations in assisting and incubating innovative solutions in R&D Centers and through programs like FICCI s Innovation Hack-A-Thons, as well as the facilitation of complete product design and manufacturing are the ultimate outputs of these hubs. Session Moderator Mr. Sunil Khurana, Chairman FICCI Medical Electronics Forum & Managing Director, BPL Medical Technologies Panellists Mr. Sameer Garde, President -Philips Healthcare, South Asia,Philips India Limited Dr. Karanvir Singh, Chief Medical Information Officer,Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals Mr Rajesh Taduri, Consultant Healthcare Practice, WIPRO* Sanjay Banerjee, Regional Managing Director-South Asia, Zimmer TBC: IBM, GE, Baxter hrs Skill development and Capacity building programs for Developers, Users, and Regulators in the areas of Medical Devices and Health IT
4 To enhance usability and efficacy of medical technology products in India, possible collaborations can be sought to create platforms for Training and Skill up gradation on cutting edge technologies hrs Networking Lunch Session Moderator Mr. Sunil Khurana, Chairman FICCI Medical Electronics Forum & Managing Director, BPL Medical Technologies Panellists Mr. Sameer Garde, President -Philips Healthcare, South Asia,Philips India Limited Dr. Karanvir Singh, Chief Medical Information Officer,Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals Mr Rajesh Taduri, Consultant Healthcare Practice, WIPRO* Sanjay Banerjee, Regional Managing Director-South Asia, Zimmer TBC: Medtronic, IBM, Baxter hrs R&D Foundations in Biopharmaceuticals: Building a Clinical Research Platform Clinical research is a foundation for building a thriving R&D economy where partnerships between small, medium and large scale companies flourish and high-technology trade and investment in life sciences can thrive. Since clinical research is one of the fastest growing areas in the US and many Indian companies / hospitals in India are also doing active research in this field, co-development and creation models can be facilitated between both the nations. Session Moderator Dr. Hemanth Nandigala, Co-Chair FICCI Biotech Committee and Executive Director, Virchow Biotech Panelists Dr. Shoibal Mukherjee, Independent Professional and Research Consultant Dr. Prabuddha Kundu, Cofounder & Executive Director, Premas Biotech Dr. Akhilesh D Sharma, Senior Vice President and Global Head, Dr. Reddy s Laboratories Limited Anil Seth, Senior Director Global Medical Quality, Eli Lilly TBC: Quintiles, Mylan, Actavis/Watson
5 hrs Transfer of Technology in Biopharmaceuticals: Role of the US and Indian Private Sector- How can Indian companies partner with the R&D companies in the US Through technology transfer and licensing agreements, collaboration between U.S. and Indian life sciences companies can address access concerns in the developing world. Technology transfer and collaboration allows for quicker production ramp up and streamlined regulatory approvals for Indian partner products in foreign markets. Furthermore, small, medium, and even large Research Companies who wish to develop a proof of concept for their active molecules need to develop a small scale process and purify this product and use for animal and human studies. Often these companies need to outsource this development as they are working on scarce funding. Indian CMOs can tie up with these kind of companies. *To be confirmed Session Moderator Dr. Hemanth Nandigala, Co-Chair FICCI Biotech Committee and Executive Director, Virchow Biotech o Panelists Dr. Prabuddha Kundu, Cofounder & Executive Director, Premas Biotech Dr. Shoibal Mukherjee, Independent Professional and Research Consultant Dr. Akhilesh D Sharma, Senior Vice President and Global Head, Dr. Reddy s Laboratories Limited TBC: Quintiles, Mylan, Actavis/Watson
