2 page 2 CHUNG YON WOO Mr. Chung is currently working as Senior Consultant in IP Management Consulting Group of KIPA (Korea Invention Promotion Association). His role in the group is supervising IP Consulting Project Managers and operating IP Management Consulting issues and performances Sponsored by KIPO. In 2010, He served as the Head of Technology Business Development Division of Technology Holdings Co. of University of Incheon, Korea. From 2001 to 2004, before he joined the field of IP Management and Technology Business Development, he had worked as General Director of Hancom Dream Net Inc., one of venture Start-up businesses in Seoul. He got Bachelor degree in Business School of Korea University, Seoul, Korea, August, Also he holds a diploma in Social and Sustainable Management Program of Business School of KAIST, Seoul, Korea. MOHAMED SHARIFF MOHAMED DIN Professor Mohamed Shariff is a national of Malaysia. He is the Director of Putra Science Park in his university. He has been teaching in Universiti Putra Malaysia (formerly known as University of Agriculture Malaysia) for the last 35 years. He is a veterinary doctor specialized in fish diseases. His invention The FastTarget a rapid PCR nested diagnostic kit for detection of white spot shrimp virus won him several medals including the WIPO gold medal in He then commercialized his kit to help reduces losses to the shrimp farming industry. In 2006, he was appointed the founding Director of Innovation and Commercialisation Centre (ICC) at the university. He started the centre from scratch and had 27 staff members under three divisions 1) Commercialisation, 2) Promotion and Training and 3) Intellectual Property. ICC was recognized as a good model in Malaysia for patent management and commercialization of university technologies. The centre won the National IP award from Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO) in 2008 He has attended several courses on intellectual property and commercialisation organized by WIPO and Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO). He was actively involved in creating awareness to the university community regarding intellectual property, evaluation of IPs, strategies of IP management and commercialisation of university R&D technologies. His centre commercialized 15 products/technologies and formed 5 joint venture companies. He served as resource person to share his experience at WIPO organized seminars in Brazil, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Malaysia, Mauritius, Morocco, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.
3 page 3 SHUNICHI DOI Mr. Doi, a national of Japan, is Director General, Second Patent Examination Department, Japan Patent Office. He holds Bachelor s Degree in Engineering at Hokkaido University. He joined Japan Patent Office in He was Examiner, Heating Machinery Division, Third Examination Department in 1986 and became Appeal Examiner, the 19 th Board of Appeals (Heating Machinery), Appeals Department in 1996, and in 2000, he became Director, appeals Examination Policy Planning Office, Appeals Division, Appeal Department. He stayed in the U.S.A as Visiting Scholar at the University of Washington School of Law, USA for two years from June In July 2002, he became Director, Examination Policy Planning Office, Administrative Affairs Division, First Patent Examination Department and he was seconded to Secretariat of Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters in March 2003 and to Secretariat of Council for Science and Technology Policy, Cabinet Secretariat in July 2005 respectively as Counselor. In July 2007, he became Senior Director of Second Patent Examination Department and in July 2008, Deputy Director General. After he worked as Director of Administrative Affairs Division, First Patent Examination Department from July 2010, he has been his current position since July SHIN SEONGCHAN Mr. Shin, a national of Korea, is presently Deputy Director of Industrial Property Promotion Division, Korean Intellectual Property Office. He is in charge of intellectual property transfer and commercialization policy. In 2007, he passed The Public Administration Examination. And in 2008, he was appointed to Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE). He worked in Industrial Technology Market Division as Deputy Director. His role in the division is supporting development and transfer of industrial application technologies. In 2009, he transferred to Machinery, Aerospace & Defense Industries Division, MKE. And in the group, He assisted in establishing The General Plan of Aerospace Industry and devised The Sustainable Development of Machinery Industry. In 2011, he transfer to his presently division, KIPO. YOSHITOSHI TANAKA Mr. Tanaka, a national of Japan, is currently a Professor at the Graduate School of Tokyo Institute of Technology. Prior to this, he had the following functions at Nihon Tetra Pak: Intellectual Property manager, Human Resources manager, Legal Manager, OEP (Operational Excellence Program) Project Leader, Patent Department Auditor, Balance Score Card Facilitator, Competence Development Project Leader, and Employee Satisfaction Survey Project Leader.
4 page 4 In he worked as a Patent Examiner and various posts in the Government of Japan such as in Planning & Research Section, International Affairs Division in Japan Patent Office (JPO), as well as Science and Technology Agency. His research areas are the Intellectual Property (IP) Management linking Business Strategy as well as the International IP Management for Overseas Business Operation. He made lectures at many occasions including WIPO Symposium at Colombo, March 2005, IPR Seminar at Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, JPO/IPR Training Course for IP trainers in Tokyo, etc. Professor Tanaka holds Bachelor s Degree of Engineering, Mechanical and Physical Engineering and Master s Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Science and Engineering Laboratory, at Graduate School of Tokyo Institute of Technology. Further to his qualification, he is Patent Lawyer registered (January 18, 1994) as well as he is also registered as an attorney for Specific IP infringement law suit (January 17, 2004). YOUSHENG ZHANG Mr. Zhang is currently a vice director of both Achievement and Intellectual Property Administrative Office and International Technology Transfer Center (ITTC) in Tsinghua University. He is in charge of technology evaluation and commercialization, patent licensing and partner development. He received his bachelor s degree and Ph.D. from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He has done theoretical and experimental research in the area of mechanical and electrical characterization on nanowires in Tsinghua University, Hongkong University of Science and Technology and National University of Singapore during the period from January 2003 to August He joined the Office of Scientific Research and Development Tsinghua University in September His current interesting is to find ways to help the universities and international partners to successfully commercialize their technologies. ANATOLE KRATTIGER Mr. Krattiger is in charge of the Global Challenges Division at WIPO working on global health, food security and climate change. He started his career as a farmer in Switzerland and holds a PhD from Cambridge University in molecular genetics. Previously, he worked at one of the CGIAR centers, CIMMYT, in Mexico on food security, worked with a colleague on the creation of ISAAA, a non-profit broker of agricultural biotechnology applications for developing countries with programs in a dozen countries and offices in Africa, Asia, Europe and the US, which he led as Executive Director until More recently, he has been consulting at crossroads of development, government, science, businesses, and philanthropy and was teaching innovation management in health and agriculture at the Sandra Day O Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, and intellectual property management at Cornell University.
5 page 5 He also served as Executive to the Humanitarian Board for Golden Rice, and was editor-in-chief of the IP Handbook of Best Practices. YUMIKO HAMANO Mrs. Yumiko Hamano, a national of Japan, is Project Coordinator, WIPO University Initiative, Innovation and Technology Transfer Section, Patent Division, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) She works at World Intellectual Property Organization, in the Innovation and Technology Transfer Section, Patent Division. She is currently responsible for the WIPO University Initiative Program, one of WIPO s projects aiming at assisting universities and R&D institutions in developing their IP and technology management capacity. Mrs. Hamano first joined WIPO for setting up the Japanese operation lines for processing PCT international applications from Japan. In this function, she was responsible for Publication, Examination and Translation procedures of PCT international applications from Japan and supervised the Japanese operations team. She also has a long experience in translating the PCT International Preliminary Examination Reports established by the Japan Patent office. Later she worked for the two consecutive Directors of the Office of the PCT as the executive assistant. During this period, she also served as the Trilateral Coordinator from WIPO in the context of the Trilateral Technical Cooperation between the European Patent Office, the Japan Patent Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. After extensive experience in the PCT Sector, Mrs. Hamano moved to the Division for Infrastructure Services and Innovation Promotion, where she was responsible for technical cooperation for universities and R&D organizations. Prior to taking up these duties at WIPO, Mrs. Hamano worked as an IP portfolio manager and a technical translator of patent documents in public and private sectors in Japan. She is a holder of English-American Literature (BA), Education (BA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA), specialized in Management in International Organizations from the Faculty of Economic and Social Science of University of Geneva. In addition to her mother tongue Japanese, she is fluent in English and French, and has good command of Chinese. [End of document]
