1 Carol Sweeney Director for Advanced Manufacturing UK Trade & Investment As UKTI s Director for Advanced Manufacturing, Carole is responsible for UKTI s strategic and global trade promotion for a wide range of sectors, including automotive, aerospace, advanced engineering, mining, oil & gas, civil nuclear and renewable energy. Her responsibilities include maintaining relationships with local, regional and national level networks, with our overseas network of embassies and with Government Departments. Carole is a career diplomat with extensive experience at senior level in both commercial and general management roles. She has a diverse background covering operational and strategic roles at home and overseas. As Head of the Economic and Commercial Section in the British Embassy Oslo she enjoyed helping companies new to export deal with the challenges of entering a new market and briefing companies of all sizes on Norwegian economic and political developments. More recently, as Head of the International Education Division in the Joint International Unit for Education, Employment and Social Affairs Carole spent an enjoyable time promoting the UK education sector to an international audience as well as the UK s world class science and research base which underpins our competitiveness and innovation.

2 Derek Allen Lead Technologist (Energy Generation & Supply) Technology Strategy Board Derek has over 30 years industrial and R&D experience in the Energy sector with large multinational organisations including GE, ABB and Alstom Power. During his career he has managed a broad spectrum of Technical and R&D Departments in the UK and overseas including Advanced Materials, Engine and Component Testing, Software, Control and Instrumentation. Derek originally joined the Technology Strategy Board on part-time secondment from Alstom Power in July 2007 and moved on a permanent basis in He is the Lead Technologists for Energy Generation & Supply and is responsible for helping develop and deliver their strategy in this area. This involves working closely with Business, Academia and Government in developing the priority areas for supporting innovation for business in the Energy sector. He is a member of a number of national and international panels and committees including; Co- Chairman of the European Technology Platform for Advanced Materials, Chairman of the Materials UK Energy Group, member of the Energy Technologies Institute Technical Committee and Programme Management Board and is on the industrial advisory committees of a number of UK Universities.

3 John Watts Director of Thermal Power Generation Centrica John is responsible for Centrica s eight gas fired power stations in the UK including the day-to-day operational performance, health and safety, employee relations, investment and asset planning. John joined Centrica in 2007 having previously run Teesside Power and the thermal power generation business at Powergen. He started his career in the oil industry working as a geologist and drilling engineer in the North Sea, Nigeria, Gabon, Canada and North Yemen. John enjoys sailing and hill walking in his spare time. He is trying to improve his French.

4 Norman McLennan Head of Contracting & Procurement (Europe E&P) BG Group International Limited Norman heads up C&P / Supply Chain for BG Group International Limited s European E&P Asset. His professional industry experience spans over twenty five years split between the oil & gas, engineering and traditional construction sectors working in the UK, Europe and internationally. He has extensive supply chain and commercial project management experience having gained exposure to working practices in both operating and project type environments. He is a Fellow of the RICS, CIPS and the International Institute of Advanced Purchasing & Supply and was formerly the Executive Supply Chain Manager for Oil & Gas UK, the industry representative body for the Upstream Oil & Gas sector where he was responsible for stewardship of supply chain pan-industry initiatives to ensure continuous business improvement across the UK Oil & Gas supply chain.

5 Dr Paul Hollinshead OBE Director of Science and Innovation DECC Paul joined the civil service in In 1988 was selected for the MOD fast stream and was put into a variety of policy, programme management and corporate / finance posts. He has been in the civil service for over 24years. In 2008 he was awarded an OBE for his services to Defence. During that time he has worked in a wide variety of areas: Policy and Strategy - in Defence and No 10. Programme Management - an SRO for over 10 years of many large and complex projects. Front Line Delivery as an Operations Director of a large agency and a unit that provided technical support to troops on exercise and in crisis. R&D management in MOD and DECC and working with Home Office and BIS. Finance and Corporate Services as a Senior Finance Officer and operating officer in MOD for a large business unit where he was in charge of finance, comms, IT, HR, operations etc. Leisure time - Paul's hobbies are hiking, photography and spending time with friends. He is married with two sons. When on vacation Paul can normally be found in the UK National Parks or in the sea with his sons.

6 Rod Dean Managing Director BCECA Rod Dean has served the international E&C industry for over 40 years. After beginning his career with John Brown E&C he worked for the M.W. Kellogg Company before becoming The Director of BCECA in 2010, He has wide experience in the industry covering Management & Project Accounting, Planning, Construction Services and Project Management. For the final 20 years of his career he worked in senior Marketing, Strategic Planning & Business Development roles. During his time in the industry he has sat on the boards of the following organisations: LATAG and the NBCC and currently serves on the boards of the EIC, ECITB and the BCECA Council which gives him valuable insight into the special world of our industry.
