1 Convention 2018 Thursday, September 20 Saturday, September 22, 2018 Included in this Registration Package is the Convention Agenda and Registration Form REGISTRATION DEADLINE August 24, 2018 The PBA is pleased to announce that the 2018 Convention will take place in Red Deer, Alberta at the Holiday Inn & Suites. The session s at this years convention will focus on the way forward for PBA, new industries that will be starting up due to the change in Federal Legislation, and the economic outlook for Alberta. We have a number of accomplished speakers who are looking forward to addressing all of you at our convention.

2 Meet Our Presenters Angel Meinecke, FPBA, MFA Angel is the President and senior accountant at her firm, Celestial Accounting Services in Slave Lake, AB. She received her accounting designation in Her association granted her a Fellow distinction in September 2008 and the highest honor Lifetime Achievement in September Not only are her clients extremely important to her, but so is her professional society where she has served on the Provincial and/or National Board of Directors since Angel is currently the National President of the PBA Society. She earned her MFA (Master Financial Advisor) in November She does the tax planning and year-end preparation as well as consulting on succession plans, US Tax returns and real wealth management. Margo Desmarais, FPBA Working in the accounting field for over 25 years, Margo completed her Accounting Diploma in Regina Saskatchewan at Reliance Business College before embarking on her career. Over the years she has worked for small and large companies, for profit and non-profit businesses and has in most recent years added tax specializations to her continued learning and expertise. As a self-professed lifelong learner, Margo has continued taking courses from many sources including in person, distance and online, she believes knowledge is empowering. Margo has been a member since September 2010 and joined the Board of Directors a year later. She has held several positions beginning with Membership Director for two years, a year as Executive Vice President and now as President as well as serving on the National Board as Treasurer for 4 years. Margo has a strong sense of community and in addition to her PBA commitments she was also a long standing volunteer board member with Adults for Kids Society of Alberta. Life is too short is the motto Margo lives by and with that philosophy she takes every opportunity to enjoy time with her children, grandchildren, extended family & many friends. Her other interests include watching football, travelling and appreciating the river valleys in and around Edmonton where she makes her home.

3 Rod Burylo, CIM, FCSI Rod Burylo is a serial entrepreneur with 30 years of experience in all major sectors of the financial services industry. He has served in a wide range of roles including Chief Compliance Officer and National Marketing Director and has earned CFP and CIM designations. He is a recipient of a Canadian Advisor of the Year Award and has recently been acknowledged as a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. Rod currently serves as Director of Business Development, Western Canada, for Croft Financial Group, and as a private equity specialist on that firm s investment review committee - which manages over $800 million in assets. Rod is a business author, international speaker, and currently designs and delivers the mandatory ethics class for CFP designation holders. Rod serves as Director and Board Advisor for public and private companies, and volunteers as a Director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Entrepreneurship, which provides scholarships to students of Junior Achievement. Rod will be discussing the role of ethics in business development and risk mitigation for professionals, with an emphasis on the accounting and financial services sectors. His presentation will feature the application of the PBA code of ethics. Attendees will learn how to develop and implement a communications strategy that confirms trustworthiness with the market which can enhance client response, client retention and client referrals. Barry Davidson, Cannabis Security Expert, David Hyde & Associates Barry is an internationally recognized security and CPTED consultant with more than 30 years experience in the strategic management, risk analysis, mitigation and security advisory realm. He has worked within private enterprise, governments and not-for-profits globally and is called upon regularly to advise on both emerging issues and large-scale projects. Barry currently works with David Hyde & Associates, Canada s foremost cannabis security experts who bring best in class security expertise to the emerging retail market and our ACMPR producers. Barry works closely with cannabis industry clients across Western Canada. Working primarily in the retail sector of the industry he is quickly becoming the go-to person for assistance with clients retail applications to provincial and municipal regulatory bodies.

4 Barry was previously the Strategic Operations Director for the Canadian Crime Prevention Centre and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International CPTED Association for his work in the field. He holds an Honors Diploma in Police Sciences with a research background in criminal psychology and was recognized as a ritual abuse/cult expert by CAN (Cult Awareness Network) through the 1980 s as well as having received the President s Award from the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP) for his work. Lindsay Blackett, Acting President, Canadian Cannabis Chamber and Partner, Arete Cannabis Consulting Inc. Lindsay Blackett is an accomplished entrepreneur and executive in the marketing and advertising industry with over three decades of diverse professional experience in various industries. Throughout his phenomenal career, he has routinely demonstrated the passion, vision, dedication and diligence necessary to be successful in the business world. Drawing upon his extensive experience and expertise in the field as well as his outstanding business acumen. Lindsay is currently acting President, Canadian Cannabis Chamber and a partner in Arete Cannabis Consulting Inc. which is a company that provides business expertise to start-ups in the cannabis industry, with respect to building an organization, process and the downstream business. Previous positions have included: V.P. business Development, Ncite Neuromedia focusing on new markets for education gamification from and CEO of Chiniki First Nation for two years in which he oversaw administration of 32 programs including, housing, economic development and education. Prior to establishing his own consultancy in October of 2012, Mr. Blackett spent over four years as a Member of The Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary North West. He also recently spent almost four years as Minister of Culture and Community Spirit for the Government of Alberta. With a vast array of knowledge and experience Lindsay is focusing on ways to educate cannabis companies and organizations on transformational change that allows them and their work force to plan for the challenges and opportunities for the years ahead.

5 Dale Schaub, Cannabis Expert, Business Link Dale Schaub is a Business Facilitator for Business Link, a non-profit organization that helps Alberta entrepreneurs start their own businesses. He is one of the team s road warriors covering central Alberta. He builds essential relationships with urban and rural communities as well as delivers presentations and workshops to aspiring and existing entrepreneurs. Having worked in a variety of industries and environments, Dale has a diverse knowledge of sales, marketing, new product launches, new business development, financing and regulations. At Business Link, he is the Cannabis expert. He has helped dozens of clients work towards their dream of starting retail cannabis stores and other related businesses. Dale excels at understanding the hurdles new businesses face in this niche and finds way to assist them in overcoming them. Robert Roach, Director of Insight, ATB Financial Rob is Director of Insight on ATB Financial s Economics and Research Team where he digs into the economic and social forces that are important to Albertans and shares these findings across the province. Before joining ATB, Rob was Vice-President of Research at the Canada West Foundation where he spent two decades analyzing and commenting on a broad range of economic, social and public policy issues. Rob is also a Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies and an Instructor at the University of Alberta s National Advanced Certificate Local Authority Administration program. Rob is the co-author of two books with ATB's Chief Economist Todd Hirsch, The Boiling Frog Dilemma: Saving Canada from Economic Decline and Spiders in Space: Successfully Adapting to Unwanted Change. Rob grew up in Calgary and holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Political Science from the University of Calgary.

6 Shane Wallace, Founder & CEO of CultureSmith Inc. Shane Wallace is the founder & CEO of CultureSmith Inc., an innovative and disruptive Employee Engagement firm based in Calgary, Alberta. A 17 year veteran of the Professional Recruitment industry, Shane launched his first firm in 2005 after spending 6 years as a Director of a multi-national Fortune 100 Recruitment Firm. As the leader of a rapidly growing enterprise, tackling employee engagement was a daily challenge. In setting his mind to solving this issue for himself, Shane soon realized that he had created a highly impactful model that was delivering amazing results. Matthew Mowbrey, Associate, Warren Sinclair LLP Matthew was born and raised all over Alberta having spent his youth in a variety of smaller communities including Caroline, Lethbridge, Coronation, Red Deer, Athabasca, and Spruce Grove. Eventually, he ended up in Edmonton where he completed both a Masters in Business Administration and Law degrees in Soon after, Matthew commenced his articles in 2014, and was called to the bar in August Matthew is also a serial entrepreneur having started or been on the executive team of agricultural custom manufacturing, hospitality, strategic consulting, financial services, and health supplement companies.

7 Jefferson Gardner Jefferson is a Certified Blockchain Expert and experienced entrepreneur with a successful history of working in numerous industries. As a management and technology consultant, Jefferson has worked internationally with Government and large corporations in the areas of operations, strategy, marketing, automation, concept development and technology. Suzanne Ebelher, Mission Ignite, Your Speaker Recruiter & MC For the Speaker Series Suzanne Ebelher, CMC, CHRP, MBA, wears two hats; she is both the Managing Director of Mission Ignite Management Consulting and the Director of Client Service for Business Link. Suzanne has over 15 years of experience assisting clients on a variety of consulting topics such as business process improvement, strategic planning, change management, business planning, focus group facilitation, project management, compensation reviews, HR policy and organizational effectiveness and customized training programs. She has worked closely with various stakeholder groups facilitating community engagement discussions. Suzanne works collaboratively with her clients to help facilitate decision making and business improvements by providing the necessary support documentation, policies, processes, tools and plans in order to achieve their desired goals and vision of success. She has worked with Indigenous communities, provincial departments, unionized organizations, large private corporations, entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations, assisting them all with meeting various needs. Suzanne brings knowledge from a background in E-Learning and Adult education certificates, her Bachelor of Arts degree, her Certified Management Consultant designation, CHRP designation and her MBA specializing in Executive Management. Suzanne is also certified in Prosci Change Management, IAP2, has an Executive Compensation Certificate and several courses towards her CPP designation.
