5 5 HOW TO TURN YOUR MINDSET INTO SUCCESS! I ve always said that it doesn t matter what someone teaches you if you don t follow through. In all my years I ve given clients, friends, and family members free workout classes, diets, meal plans, one on one coaching, the lastest ab blasters routines, and the reason they never applied it or follow through was because they didn t have the right mindset. Everything starts in the mind. A business partner of mine, who created The Massive Action Movement, always talks about conditional decision making. Let s say you start a workout plan and your goal is to lose 25 pounds in a month. You re excited, and you can already picture yourself unveiling your new body to all your friends. But, what happens? Work get s in the way, the kids are crying, your family member is having trouble, your spouse needs attention, and all of sudden your diet plan goes up in flames. You have just made a conditional decision. Let me explain! You said in your mind I m going to lose this weight However when the conditions changed in your life, you didn t follow through. If you want to be successful in anything you must remove the conditional decision from your life.
6 6 This means when you set a date, a goal, or start a project you finish it. There s a part of our brain called the reticular activating system which means our selective focus. Have you ever wanted a car and then you start seeing it everywhere? This is because your reticular activating system focused on it and now you are literally blocking out everything else and seeing this car. The same is true with your mindset. If you make a conditional decision, your reticular activating system will start focusing on possible excuses why you can t get your goal accomplished. However, when you tell yourself you have no other options you force your mind to find solutions because your reticular activating system will be focused on solutions. With the proper mindset you WILL HAVE THE BODY AND THE LIFE YOU WANT. This short book will give you a few powerful mindsets to help you on your fitness journey.
7 7 THE POWER OF WRITING GOALS DOWN Napoleon Hill wrote a book called the 17 law of success. He s more commonly known for the success classic Think and Grow Rich! In the book, the 1st rule is knowing your DEFINITE MAJOR PURPOSE! He always suggests writing it down. Based on my personal experience 80% of the goals I write down I accomplish, including the writing of this book! We are going to apply the same thing to your fitness goals. There is one criteria for setting your goals. Goals should be S.M.A.R.T which stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-bound. For example: Bad Goal: Lose 100 pounds in 3 days (Unrealistic) Bad Goal: Lose some weight in a month (Not specific) Good Goal: Lose 25 pounds in a month Good Goal: Reduce my calorie intake by 30% this week
8 8 YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS: MOTIVATION Motivation is tricky. Have you ever started a project filled with motivation only to feel later like it was destined for failure? Staying motivated is a balance. The reason most people lose motivation is because they don t see success fast enough. In the book An Iron Will By Orison Swett Marden said, Success in most things is knowing how long it takes to succeed! Most of the time we give up right before we are about to succeed. I designed this diet to give you quick results, so you ll stay motivated. Now, I ll give you a powerful tool I use to stay motivated. I call it the Why Reframe. When you know why you are doing something, it s easy to stay motivated. For example, let s say you hated your job and weren t motivated to go, but I told you that your child or your family would starve if you didn t go? You would be able to go because you know WHY you re going. You aren t going for a paycheck! You re going to feed your family. By taking your goals and attaching a strong enough reason why you re doing it, it will create powerful motivation. So, maybe you need to lose weight because you want to be healthy enough to see your kids grow up. This is how I would reframe my goal! I want to lose 40 pounds in the next 6 months! (Why) Because if I am healthy, I will be able to play with my kids and see them grow! The goal is losing 40 pounds, on the surface, but the deeper motivation comes from seeing your kids' first steps, their first time riding a bike, their graduation, and even your grandchildren. With a strong enough why you can complete any goal!
9 9 HOW TO BREAK OLD HABITS They say it takes about 66 days to form a habit. But breaking old habits takes time. The first step to breaking a habit is identifying what bad tendencies you have. Just being aware of a bad habit will help you begin to change. Once you ve identified the bad habit now identify the behavior you would like to take instead. Now, whenever you see you re doing the bad habit work to implement the new better habit. Over time you will form a good habit. USE SMALLER PLATES: If you find it hard to control how much you eat, an effective strategy is using smaller plates. This has been seen to be effective as many people have been conditioned to finish their whole plate. By having a small plate, you trick your mind into believing you are completing your entire plate while eating smaller portions which means fewer calories. DRINK BEFORE EATING A little well known secret is drinking a glass of cold water quells hunger pangs and will help you control the amount calories you consume.
10 10 TELL YOUR FRIENDS WHAT YOU RE DOING Nobody wants to look bad. If you let people know your intentions, it will help you be accountable. Leverage the want to keep your reputation intact GET AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER The best workouts I ve ever gotten have been with a workout partner. Not only that, but having an accountability partner helped me finish writing this book. By having someone you trust to hold you accountable is one of the most powerful tools I ve ever seen. EATING OUT If you know how many calories are in your meal you can measure it against your BMR. As long as you don t go over your BMR you will be okay. Here s a quick restaurant hack. Eat half of your food and take the rest home. This is useful especially when restaurants don t tell you or know how many calories are in their meals.
11 11 STOP AT YOUR IDEAL WEIGHT Once you reach your ideal weight you can slow on the aggressive calorie cutting. The only thing you must concern yourself with after you reach your target weight is making sure you don t exceed your BMR over a long period. MAKE IT FUN Above all make it fun. You re about to get the ideal body you ve always wanted. This should get you excited. If you re excited and having fun, then you will give up. Get friends involve, makeup games, create a point system. Improving yourself is fun so get excited. CONCLUSION You have been given a few techniques that will help you through this process. There is a magic number called the BMR which will help you control your weight forever. The mentality you approach this with is going to determine your success.
