1 14 day goal setting challenge

2 14 day goal setting challenge! Hooray!!! Its day one! I hope you re ready to get productive, learn how to set goals and most importantly, take massive action to achieve epic results! So, on our first day of the two-week challenge, we are going to set an intention for success. Setting an intention may not seem like much of a step towards achieving a goal, but without it, all of the work we do will be pointless. You need to know what you re trying to do afterall! At the end of the challenge, you will have the tools necessary to set powerful goals, and achieve amazing things, but you have to be all in with me. We are going to start by getting clear on your intention, so sit down with your writing tool (evernote, a paper journal, whatever works best for you), and answer the questions below. Be honest. No one knows your answers but you, so the more honest you are with yourself, the more you will achieve. What are you looking to achieve in the next 14 days? What are you looking to achieve in the next 30 days? What are you looking to achieve in the next 90 days? What direction are you looking to take? Can you commit 100% to the next 14 days? If not, why do you think you will succeed? What is your powerful intention for this challenge? 2

3 Its day two and I am already feeling great about my intention. I m pumped and ready to throw down with my goals, so lets get started on step 2! Getting clear on your desires (or end goals I like to say desires because it reminds me that I REALLY want the end result.) What s the first thing you need to do after you ve set an intention to complete something epic? Figure out what it is you desire! If you don t know what you want, how will you know how to get it? Getting crystal clear on your goals and desires is paramount to success. So, picture yourself having achieved your goal. What does that look like? What does that feel like? What are you wanting to achieve? If I could wave a magic wand and give you your goal/desire right now, how would you describe it to me? How would I know what it is you really want? Write it down as if I was your fairy godmother and I could grant it to you right now. Hold this image in your mind for the next 14 days. Daydream about it. Imagine it while you re driving, between jobs, on the toilet. Set this desire for the end and know that it s coming for you. (Or rather, you re coming for it!) 3

4 Ok. You have a clear intention, and now a clear picture of the end goal/desire. So here s the really good stuff. Write out what you want to achieve at the end of the 14-day challenge. Do you have more than one goal? That s totally fine write them all down (we will work on these tomorrow). Use your desires and intention as power and motivation to figure these out. We re going to learn about SMART goals today too, and use this as our guide for the next couple of days, so lets get familiar! Smart goals help us to really determine the scope of the project or goal we are looking to achieve. Its easy to remember too (which I find very useful)! Specific What are you wanting to achieve? Why do you want to achieve it? Who is involved with it? Where will it be taking place? Measurable How much? How many? How will I know when its done? How can you track your progress? What tangible results can you see? Attainable Realistically, can you achieve this goal in the time you re allotting? Relevant Does this impact your life goals? Does this seem worthwhile? Is this the right time? Time-bound Timeframes keep us on track. Parkinson s law says that work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. Give yourself a deadline and commit to it. 4

5 If you could achieve anything in the next 24 hours, which goal would have the GREATEST impact on your life right now? What is your number one goal? List your goals. We re going to talk about the ABC technique today. Look at your list of goals. The ABC technique is going to help us break down the goals in their order of importance to you goals and life in general. This technique was shown to me through Brian Tracy s work on productivity and it s an amazing way of figuring out what s most important to you! Next to your goals, you re going to assign a letter of the alphabet from A E depending on its level of importance. A Very important. This is something that must be done to either create really positive results, or avoid disastrous ones. B Important These are things that need to be done, but aren t quite as important as A tasks. There might still be negative consequences for incompletion, but they aren t as bad as those for the A tasks. C Is all about the things that are good to do, or nice to do. These tasks don t have a negative consequence for not doing them. D Tasks you can delegate to others! These are things you can do, but you could also give to someone else to do. Try not to waste your time on these tasks. E Tasks that can be eliminated! If you don t need to do it, don t. Eliminate things that are unnecessary. If you have more than one A goal, which one is more important first? The most important goal/task will become A1, the second most will be A2, etc. Do this for all tasks so you have a clear, ordered list of tasks. Now re-write them in order of necessity. 5

6 So, now you have your lists! Perhaps you ve noticed that there is a LOT to do though, and quite a few things in the A and B categories. If you are feeling this way, (or even if your list isn't super huge), I have a useful next step for you today. Deadlines. Deadlines are the "T" element of our SMART goals. In order to complete tasks, we have to set ourselves deadlines (and commit to sticking to them). Remember that we said deadlines must be reasonable too though, so have a look through your list and determine some SMART deadlines for those items on your list. Especially the A-B items. If you find that your tasks are massive, you can also set sub-deadlines. Divide the tasks up into smaller, more manageable tasks that have more attainable deadlines, and adjust your list accordingly. One of my favourite techniques for this is called the "salami" technique - where you slice small pieces off the larger task to make it more manageable and less challenging. If you complete one little slice at a time, you'll be more likely to finish more tasks as they aren't so intimidating! "How do you eat an elephant? 7 For those of you who have worked with me before, you know this topic is my jam. I love working through limiting beliefs, (my husband and I actually have conversations at home about this when we find ourselves stuck on something), but for today, we ll do a brief rundown. When we get past our limiting beliefs, anything is possible. That glass ceiling can be broken and you can achieve anything you desire. BUT, you need to become great at discovering them! First, identify the obstacles that may get in the way of your goal. Write them down. Limiting beliefs are these things that actually get in your way when they don t need to. Is there a feeling of resistance associated with your goals? Perhaps a little twinge of the imposter syndrome? Take out a timer and set it for 2 minutes. Write down everything you can think of in 2 minutes that comes to mind as you imagine achieving you goal. Don t make yourself wrong for feeling anything, but write it ALL down. Whatever it is. Once you ve done that, look over it and identify any negative thoughts. These are your limiting beliefs today. Transform each of them into a positive sentence and write them down. E.g. Limiting belief: I am not an expert on this Transformation: I AM an expert in this, and have the ability to learn anything I need to make me a SUPER expert. You might feel like these are big lies, but your thoughts and words create your reality, so we might as well be amazing in our thoughts! (The worst that can happen is they become the truth!) 7

8 Today, we have a pretty straightforward topic. Write a list of the skills you need to have to complete your goal. Do you need to learn anything new to achieve your goal? Look back at your list of goals. Is there anything in there that you need to learn to do? Did your limiting beliefs show you any areas of weakness or uncertainty? If there is something new to learn, spend some time researching how to learn this, and write down an action plan for each new skill. (HINT: make it a smart goal!) 8

9 Another list today!! Pull out your note-taking device or journal again and lets make one giant list of everything you need to make your number one goal happen. Don t worry about the order of things you come up with we will organize that later. Just make the list. Be thorough. With all of this written down, its time to turn your goal into a SMART goal! If you need a reminder of what a SMART goal is, head on back to day 3 for a refresh ( I wont tell). Using all of the information you've gathered, write out your updated, specific and purposeful SMART goal. Write it somewhere that you can see it every day until its complete! 9

10 Look at your list from yesterday. If you're anything like me, that list is pretty scattered. Today, spend some time organizing your list into a plan (according to your SMART goal). What do you need to do first? Second? When do you need to do these things by? Using the techniques we learned earlier, create a solid plan from your list. Day nine = in the bag! 10

11 Day 10! Bring it on! Take your plan from yesterday and add it to your calendar/journal/planner etc. One of the biggest challenges with goal setting and achieving is holding yourself accountable to the tasks you need to complete. Block off dedicated time to completing tasks in your agenda/calendar. Make this time non-negotiable, and turn off anything that could cause distraction. Some of my favourite accountability resources are; Self Control App (for blocking websites for a specific time chrome app.) This App doesn t let you access anything you put into its black list for the time frame you have it running. You can't get around it - even restarting your computer wont help! Its awesome. Trello - Online task-manager. Asana (I love this one) When you complete a scheduled task, a unicorn flies across the screen on a rainbow! Forest Plant a forest while you work! Teach yourself not to be distracted by your phone! (not free, but cheap) 11

12 Share your goal!!! Share it in our facebook group! ( ) Share it with family! Share it with friends! Make yourself be accountable to your goal by making it public! You ll do it if people know about it. 12

13 My favourite podcast host, John-Lee Dumas (of EOFire) talks about FOCUS all the time. And I LOVE the acronym he has for this word. Follow One Course Until Success Don t allow yourself to get distracted by other tasks. Be determined, have grit (and use the productivity tools we talked about yesterday if you need to.) How can you develop FOCUS today? Create a plan of action to get you focused on your tasks for the day. 13

14 DAY THIRTEEN!! We're on the home stretch! Today's task is a pretty easy one, but its SUPER important. Go back to day 2 and check in on your desires. Have they changed at all? If so, now's the time to update if necessary to reflect your new goal. ALSO, Finish any step you haven t done 100%. Tomorrow is THE day! 14
