9 'Sugar Industry Sectional Committee, FAD 2 FOREWORD This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on 28 February 1990, after the draft finalized by the Sugar Industry Sectional Committee had been approved by the Food and Agriculture Division Council. BURA is the product made by recrystallization of any kind of sugar or KHA.NDSARI sugar and made into fine free flowing powder. BURA is being produced in a considerable quantity in the country. :.+'" In the preparation of this standard, due consideration has been given to the relevant Rules prescribed by the Government of India, under P"v,nt;on offood A.dulteration Act, 1954 and Standards of W,;ghts and Measures ( Packaged Commoditi,s) Rules, The standard is, however, subject to the restrictions imposed under these, wherever applicable. For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with 18 2 : 1960 'Rules for rounding off numerical values ("vised)'. The number ofsignificant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

10 DURA - Indian Standard SPECIFICATION IS s SCOPE 1.1 This standard prescribes the requirements and methods of test for BURA manufactured by any kind ofsugar. 2 REFERENCES health. NOTE - 'Pure chemicals' shall mean chemicals that do not contain irnpurities which affect the result of analysis. 7 PACKING AND MARKING 3 TYPES 3.1 There shall be two types of BURA, namely, white BURA and pale yellow BlJRA. 4 REQ,UIREMENTS 4.1 Description BURA shall be prepared by recrystallization of any kind of sugar and shall be in the form of free flowing amorphous powder. 4.2 Colour White BURA shall be white in colour while pale yellow B UJ~A shall be pale yellow in colour. 4.3 BURA shall be sweet to taste and shall not possess sour salty or any other objectionable taste. 4.4 The material shall be free from other extraneous matter and substances deleterious to 7.1 Packing The material shall be packed in clean, sound and new jute or polyethylene bags. The jute bags may be lined with polyethylene film for better keeping quality. The mouth of each bag may be either machine stitched or' rolled over and hand stitched The material shall be packed In a net quantity of 50 kg. 7.2 Marking Each bag shall be stuitably marked so as to give the following information: a) Name of the material, b) Indication of the source of manufacture, c) Net mass in the bag, and d) Type of BURA.

12 Staadard Mark --~-"--'----' '.- ~ The use of the Standard Mark is governed by the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. The Standard Mark on products covered by an Indian Standard conveys the assurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements of that standard under a well defined system of inspection, testing and quality control which is devised and supervised by BIS and operated by the producer. Standard marked products are also continuously checked by BIS for conformity to that standard as a further safeguard. Details ofconditions under which a licence for the use ofthe Standard Mark may be granted to manufacturers or producers may be obtained from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
