SUBJECT: General, although preference may be given to horticultural and trade studies. QUALIFICATION: NUMBER AWARDED: DURATION: Must be studying Diploma, Trade Certification, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree, Doctoral Degree or a specialist area of study. Not specified, dependent on number of applicants. Yearly Applicants may re-apply for the periods; Trade Certificates (1 year per certificate), Diploma (3 years maximum), Bachelors (3-5 years maximum depending on type of degree), Masters (2 years maximum), Doctorate (4 years maximum) or Specialist area of study, (1-3 years dependent on area of study). VALUE GRANTS: Tertiary Education Grant: Variable up to $3,000 Tertiary Excellence Scholarship: $5,000 Successful applicant will not receive either of the Tertiary Grants (Business, Science or Culture), nor the Tertiary Education Grant. 10 Date Stamp: TONGAKAIWHARE TONY GEAR SCHOLARSHIP OF EXCELLENCE 2019 BACKGROUND INFORMATION This scholarship is offered to Ngai Tukairangi Hapu descendants who are beneficiaries of the Ngai Tukairangi Trust. The award seeks to acknowledge those students that are studying at a level or in an area of study that deserves special recognition, and to recognise the contribution made by Tongakaiwhare Gear to preserve the tikanga and kawa of Ngai Tukairangi hapu and promote the values of community and whanaungatanga. The successful applicant will be expected to attend the Ngai Tukairangi Trust Annual General Meeting to make a presentation of their achievements and their aspirations for the future. The Trustees reserve the right not to award the Scholarship of Excellence if a suitable applicant can not be found. CRITERIA 1. Applicants should be in their final year of study towards their first degree, studying towards a master s thesis, enrolled in an MPhil or PhD or studying towards a specialist area of study. The Ngai Tukairangi Trust is keen to receive applications from students who can demonstrate a balanced approach to cultural, academic aspirations, and horticultural studies. 2. Please submit an essay of between 1,000 and 1,500 words outlining how your studies would contribute to Whanau, Hapu and Iwi development, outlining in your view what you believe to be important aspects of development for our people in the next twenty years. 3.
