1 APPENDIX 4: Hineuru Strategic Plan Information from Kaumatua on vision for future
2 1 Kaumatua hui 1.1 We set out below the information and korero provided from our pakeke and kaumatua of Hineuru. One of the key questions asked was what message our kaumatua would have for the mokopuna of their mokopuna. Further, we asked questions around what they would like to see, and what their vision is for the iwi of Hineuru in the future. 1.2 We set out their whakaaro in the table below. 2
3 Te Kōpere o te iwi o Hineuru Trust Kaumatua korero and whakaaro No. 1 To develop strong management. Develop housing. Long term employment. To continue education. Marry a wealthy man or woman and stay married. Happiness and eternal joy. Keep looking to the future. 2 Health, wealth and education. Whanau healthy, working, jobs. Setting up of training facilities under our own Te Kōpere umbrella. Invest in future so we become financially able to provide for future. Take the opportunities available. Keep in contact with their iwi etc. Make sure to get education and continue Te Kōpere into the future. Trust funds. Education grants. Apprenticeships. 3 Provide sports recreation, swimming pool, sports ground, football, basketball. Korero history. Use your marae, fill it with fun and joy. Warm, comfortable, safe. Health and dental services. Urgent operations. Scholarships for university. Support towards degrees. Unemployed create jobs. Marae, kaumatua, room to rest, quiet time. 4 That we are managing our land, and looking after the well being of our whanau katoa. 1) To take care of our taonga. 2) Learn Māori Tikanga. 3) Come home to Ngati Hineuru. 4) Look out for each other. Yes, that we remain a close and happy whanau in years to come. 9 Kaumatua flats to be happy. Education, to learn how to get jobs and grants to help them to go further into the career. Whanaunga taonga health wellbeing. By education grants, kaumatua grants, employment, farming, forestry, fisheries etc. That we all remain intake and be close whanau relationship forever. 10 Whanaungatanga. Do right for our people. Get educated, be able to help Hineuru to thrive for the better. Love happiness, being with whanau, and aiding and striving for our iwi. By education grants, kaumatua grants, employment, farms, forestry, fisheries etc. That we work and walk together for Hineuru. 11 To know the whanau have the marae for a gathering place in the future as we had in the past. That it is kept in working order for the iwi. To encourage them to show interest in the whenua they have through their kaumatua and kuia which have been through struggles and hard work have achieved. To maintain the whenua for the future and look after it through attending huis to be able to keep them. To keep them informed what is happening from time to time. The longer time is lapsed; you can never keep the interest. If there are others you know of that have interest in the whenua, go the extra mile to rally round and get them to bring their thoughts and ideas. 15 To stand united be strong! To be there for my mokopuna. Respect and learn about where you come from. More health facilities clinics. Housing affordable. Job opportunities creating work for our rangatahi.
