1 Page 1 of 11 First Revision No. 2-NFPA [ Section No ] 1.1.1* This fire test response standard describes a procedure for measuring critical radiant flux behavior of horizontally mounted floor covering systems exposed to a flaming ignition source in a graded, radiant heat energy environment within a test chamber. Submittal Date: Tue Apr 09 09:34:47 EDT 2013 Information should help the users. Notes: Date Submitted By Apr 19, 2013 Sonia Barbosa Annex material should be attached in a Word doc, not in the FR/SR Public Input No. 5-NFPA [Section No ]
2 Page 2 of 11 First Revision No. 9-NFPA [ Section No ] 1.2.1* The standard was developed to simulate an important fire exposure component in fires that develops in corridors or exitways exit enclosures of buildings and is not intended for routine use in estimating flame spread behavior of floor covering in building areas other than corridors or exitways exit enclosures. Submittal Date: Tue Apr 09 10:44:29 EDT 2013 The term "exitway" is not used in NFPA documents. The term "exit enclosure" is used throughout NFPA 101.

Submittal Date: Tue Apr 09 09:35:48 EDT 2013 ASTM E171 was removed from section Update to revision date of ASTM E136. Public Input No. 2-NFPA [Section No ]

Submitter Full Name: Tracy Vecchiarelli Submittal Date: Fri Apr 19 15:17:07 EDT 2013 Chapter 3 now extracts a definition from NFPA 101.
5 Page 5 of 11 First Revision No. 7-NFPA [ Section No ] Corridor. An enclosed space connecting a room or compartment with an exit that includes normal extensions, such as lobbies and other enlarged spaces. Submittal Date: Tue Apr 09 10:35:50 EDT 2013 The definition is unnecessary for the use of the test method. The corridor is better defined in the local building code or by the AHJ.

The level of incident radiant heat energy in units of W/cm 2 on a floor covering system at the most distant flameout point [ 101, 2015]. Submittal Date: Tue Apr 09 10:39:38 EDT 2013 Extracting the definition complies with the scope of the GOT.

Public Input No. 7-NFPA [Section No. 4.1] Public Input No. 8-NFPA [Section No. 4.1]
9 Page 9 of 11 First Revision No. 6-NFPA [ Sections 4.7.2, ] With the panel turned on and the dummy specimen in place Prior to igniting the panel, the airflow rate through the stack shall be 76.2 m/min ± +/ 15.2 m/min when measured with a hot wire anemometer 30 seconds after insertion of the probe into the center of the stack opening at a distance of 152 mm down from the top of the stack opening. as follows: (1) A dummy specimen shall be in place. (2) The temperature of the airflow through the exhaust duct shall be at room temperature. (3) A hot wire anemometer with an accuracy of +/ 0.1 m/sec shall be used for this measurement. (4) The hot wire anemometer shall be inserted into the center of the stack opening at a distance of 152 mm down from the top of the stack opening. (5) The hot wire anemometer The hot wire anemometer shall have an accuracy of ±0.1 m/sec. Submittal Date: Tue Apr 09 10:15:42 EDT 2013 The current language could be misinterpreted to mean that the airflow rate through the stack should be measured with the radiant panel ignited. The new wording clarifies that the airflow rate should be measured before igniting the panel. The section was further edited into a list format to improve clarity. Public Input No. 4-NFPA [Section No ]
10 Page 10 of 11 First Revision No. 1-NFPA [ Section No ] Conditioning shall be conducted in accordance with ASTM E 171, Standard Specification for Standard Atmospheres for Conditioning and Testing Flexible Barrier Materials. Submittal Date: Tue Apr 09 09:32:39 EDT 2013 It does not appear that this reference adds anything of significance. ASTM E171 gives criteria for temperature and humidity which is already contained in section 5.3. There is also a conflict between ASTM E171 and section Public Input No. 3-NFPA [Section No ]
