1 CATALOGUE OF RAKU POTS by Carol Smeraldo as of September 2018 Raku pieces have grey/ black carbonized or natural bare clay areas for dramatic contrast which have been burnished as well as finished with high quality Krylon which helps preserve the soft sheen and makes cleaning with a soft damp or dry cloth easier. Krylon is also used to preserve the copper lustres which otherwise might reoxidize(fade) over time and to prevent tarnishing of all copper pipe and wire. Horsehair and feathers are used in the carbon trap painting process on raku artworks. Feathers have been shed naturally and collected by the artist or obtained from wildlife parks. Horsehair is used to string fiddler s bows and when it wears out for their use, it is used for carbon trap painting on hot-from-the-kiln Raku pieces. 15 333 Ever Present Beacon of Light nearly 5 tall, 3 piece Raku and translucent porcelain lit sculpture with sparkling lights shining out from a hand built opalescent warm white translucent top. It sits on the 2 piece wheel thrown, Raku fired bottom with hand carved undersea forms on a lustrous earthy orange and swirling sea blue background with 2 large shell shaped additions. All attached to a satin black aluminum base. A small inverter box plugs into an ordinary wall socket to light the sculpture. The boat is bolted to a tall creamy and lustrous toasty orange crackled pedestal with carbon trapped speckles and streaks.
