19 Objectives Decentralize a program which was heavily focused on Paris and Paris region Raise funds for awards in the life and physical sciences when we were only offering awards in the Social sciences and Humanities Reach parity between US and French sources of public funding Facilitate the identification by US academics of the changing landscape of research in France

20 Challenges Changing map of the regions ( from 23 to 13 regions in 2014) and regional tax challenges Redefinition of priorities at the regional level: is higher education and research a mission of the region?
