1 September 24 th 2015 By Joe Murphy I start of by congratulating the SNFC officials and race team who obviously had been watching the weather for the UK and decided to bring their young bird national a day forward and race on the Friday as the weekend was a total washout. The birds were basketed on the Thursday evening and at the liberation site in plenty of time for a 09:45 release at Buckingham into a south east wind. The convoy cleared the site immediately heading in a north-west direction. There was 284 members sending 2577 birds with the sections as follows: Section A: 171 birds; Section B: 962 birds; Section C: 577 birds; Section D: 376 birds; Section E: 327 birds; Section F: 63 birds and Section G: 101 birds. The winner of the young bird national is to S Boyd of Locharbriggs in the south section he wins 1st section A 1st open on a velocity of 1723 twelve yards behind is another south section pigeon to the loft in Annan to Scott J Irvine Junior Loft 1 who wins 2nd section and open. The next 18 pigeons were all racing into the Pentland Hills federation with past national winner W Kinnear & son Barry of Danderhall club in Edinburgh having the first bird to win 1st section B 3rd open with a velocity of The Davie & Jamie Allen (brothers) from Woodburn are 2nd 12th & 13th section B 4th 14th & 15th open their winners velocity is Andy Miller of Sighthill club, who is the press officer for the Pentland federation, had a great race having 5 birds together winning 3rd 4th 7th 8th & 9th section B and 5th 6th 9th 10th & 11th open with the 5 velocities ranging from 1689 to L Mitchell of Castlebrae club in Edinburgh is 5th & 6th section B 7th & 8th open with 2 birds on Brown & Black of Woodburn club are 10th & 11th section 12th & 13th open. Helen Aitken & sons of Musselburgh are 14th 15th & 18th section B 16th 17th & 21st open, while I & I Hunter of Danderhall club are in 16th section 18th open position. The J & G Whitson partnership from Pencaitland are 17th section B 19th open. I wrote last week about how the forward thinking officials had changed their young bird programme to race on a FRIDAY and here they are reaping the benefits. Well done to one and all. 1st section C 1st Fife federation 20th open is Mook Honeyman of Kennoway with J Smith of Polmont winning 1st section D 22nd open. J Wilkinson of Glenmavis is the winner of 1st 2nd 5th & 26th section E and his first 2 birds are 107th & 110th open which is very good

2 consider the race was dominated by the east side of the country. The consistent Morris Brothers of Johnstone in the west of Scotland are 1st & 5th section F with G & C Rae of Aberdeen 1st section G. This turned out to be a very good race with the majority of the bird s home on the day which was just as well as the rain came on the Saturday and lasted for a few hours. Results Ayrshire Federation Ardeer held the breeder buyer on 23rd August from Sedgefield roughly 150 mile where 55 birds were competing in 1st place and getting 150 each is Sean Diamond (North Coast Classic Owner) and John Donald (of Clyde Coast). In 2nd place winning 100 each are the Breeder Eddie Callaghan of Fauldhouse and the buyer Jim Stirrat of Ardeer. 3rd place wining 50 each are Russel McAlary of Northern Ireland and the buyer was John Simpson of Ardeer. 4th are G Hutchison & J Tudhope with their own bird winning Frazer feeding prize. 5th prize to the breeder Sean Diamond and the buyer are J & S O Hare of Ardeer winning Frazer feeding. Ayrshire federation had their final young bird race on the 29th August from Wakefield with the strings were cut at am into a south to south west wind. Ardeer had 9 members sending 17 birds for this 190 mile journey and taken the red card is the partnership of J & S O Hare with a dark chequer hen contains the very best of the Northern Irish blood her grand-parents are from Russel McAlary and Sean Diamond. 2nd was John "The Bookie" Simpson with a blue bar white flight already a prize winner. Winning 3rd club Otterburn and contain the bloodlines of W G & P Macaloney and Ian Cameron of Broadholme. In 3rd place is Jim Stirrat with a young hen from his very good breeder the black cock who is responsible for many prize winners. Pentland Hills Federation news from Andy Miller who wrote The above organisations held their final young bird race of the season, from Buckingham our Federation Open race a distance of miles for the members 47 members sending 604 birds (SNFC 484 birds Federation 120 birds). This was flown in conjunction with the SNFC and winning 1st federation open is the ultra- successful partnership of W Kinnear & sons from Gilmerton/Danderhall club. They timed a February bred darkness hen sent sitting 15 day eggs her sire is a grandson of Auld Reekie when paired to a direct Frans Zwols hen. 2nd open are Davie & Jamie Allen from Woodburn with Andy Miller of Sighthill in 3rd & 4th place his first bird winning over 300 Andy is also 7th 8th & 9th with L Mitchell of Castlebrae in 5th & 6th places Brown & Black of Woodburn are 10th & 11th. My thanks to Andy Miller who has done a wonderful job as press officer for the above federation Good SNFC Birds This week I purchased a bird in a phone in sale belonging to Derek Hay of Kirkintilloch. This youngster was from his very good pigeon, Kirksyde Malkie, a 4-times winner in the SNFC. The thing that impressed me about this pigeon was he has won 1st & 3rd west section in two of these nationals and Kirkintilloch is the furthest north west in the section so this bird should in all honesty NEVER won these positions so in doing so proved he is an exceptional pigeon.

3 national flying 261 miles into a north west wind he recorded a velocity of 1028 he was the only bird in west section over 1000 ypm in this race winnings 734. In 2014 he won 40th section E from SNFC Buckingham 2941 birds flying 300 miles recording a velocity of 1532, he returned really badly hawked with his chest ripped open and several flights missing yet he still won in this very fast race winnings 120. I will keep Derek and you informed of how the youngster progresses for us in the future. Now from some details on this outstanding pigeon and Derek has kindly forwarded a photograph of Malkie when he won from Leicester as a youngster. As you will see Malkie has won 4 SNFC Diplomas winning well over 2000 in racing in the SNFC and LSC at only 2 years old. Derek says Malkie is a flying machine and is a pleasure to race and his offspring are starting follow in his footsteps and showing promise for the future. We now come to another pigeon that has excelled in the national having won 7 times in 4 years he is raced into the Midlothian area of Edinburgh by: S Morrison & son Roslin with Chequer cock SU 10 ML 4019 Meritorious Inland Bronze Award with the SNFC In 2012 from the Maidstone national he won 66th section B 119th open with 3442 birds competing; then in 2013 he was sent to Newbury and won 33rd section B 232nd open from an entry of 3328 birds in the same year he was sent back to Maidstone and won 46th section B 111th open from an entry of 4855 birds and in the same year he was then sent to Ypres and won 36th section B 101st

4 open with 2356 birds competing. In 2014 he won 95th section B 135th open again from Maidstone with 4472 birds contesting and then he was sent to Ypres and won 210th open (no section prize this time) with 2404 birds participating then this year 2015 he was sent to Billericay and won 62nd section B 116th open from an entry of 3395 birds. He has won from 319 miles right through to 428 miles and will be presented with his Meritorious Inland Bronze Award at this year s presentation well done. At the session last week the priest asked Giuseppe, who said he was approaching his 50th wedding anniversary, to take a few minutes and share some insight into how he had managed to stay married to the same woman all these years. Giuseppe replied to the assembled husbands, "Well, I'va tried to treat her nice, spenda da money on her but, best of all is, I took her to Italy for the 25th anniversary."
