Advisor: Dr. K.C. Jensen 2012 Present South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD 2012 M.S. in Biological Science; Focus: Biology Thesis: Distribution and landscape attributes of greater prairie-chickens and sharp-tailed grouse outside of their traditional range in eastern South Advisors: Dr. Charles Dieter and Dr. K.C. Jensen South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD 2008 B.S. in Biology and B.S. in Psychology, minor in Chemistry Cum Laude honor Research/Work Experience Instructor and Lab Coordinator, South Dakota State University 2015 Present Develop materials for and teach General Biology II lecture (BIOL 153) Develop material for and coordinate the General Biology labs (BIOL 151 and 153) for science majors; approximately students per semester Oversee logistical components of the General Biology lecture/lab program Train and supervise Teaching Assistants Teach Introductory Biology lab courses Ph.D., South Dakota State University 2012 Present Investigated the efficacy of various methods of mid-contract CRP management to improve brood rearing habitat for upland game birds, specifically ring-necked pheasants, by focusing on arthropod production as a function of grassland management and the use of human-imprinted chicks to look at food selection versus availability in experimentally treated grassland blocks. In addition to investigating treatment methods, this study also researched the longevity of the benefits provided by those methods. 1
2 Skills: human imprinting pheasant chicks, arthropod collection methods (pitfall traps, sweep nets, vacuum samples), arthropod identification, vegetation measurements (Robel pole, Daubenmire frame) M.S., South Dakota State University Established 57 grouse survey routes in eastern South Dakota, located 70 new lek locations, used ArcGIS to analyze landscape features and create a habitat suitability index. Skills: Identifying suitable areas for prairie grouse, establishing survey routes, ArcGIS Wildlife Experiences, Inc., Rapid City, SD Summer 2007, 2008 Summer job doing daily educational bird shows at Reptile Gardens in Rapid City, SD. Skills: proper bird handling and husbandry, assisted in training birds using positive reinforcement methods, public speaking skills. Undergraduate Research, South Dakota State University Assisted in using operant conditioning methods to create instructional videos that can be used in class to demonstrate concepts. Skills: Positive reinforcement procedures, operant conditioning methods, goldfish handling and husbandry, operation of video equipment.
