The beads will be attached with a cross stitch, and following the numbering, and which hole you are coming up and down into is important. When covering a vertical thread, follow the first step. For the second step, come up in the lower right hand hole, go through the bottom of the bead (again, the end nearest the lower left hand hole,) and then go back down in the upper left hand hole. This will pull the bead into a vertical position. Moving just like basketweave, continue to apply beads covering vertical threads in that diagonal row. You do not need to change the color of your beading thread as the color of the design changes, just change the color of the bead you apply. Once an area is completed, you might need to scoot the beads on the outer edges towards the center for tightly packed coverage. Area: Red, Green, and White Small Squares Fiber: Swarovski Hotfix Crystals Technique: Apply using an appropriate Hotfix tool. If Hotfix crystals are not available, or not desired, stitch each area with an appropriate colored metallic in a Smyrna cross. The first step, regardless of whether you are covering a horizontal or a vertical canvas thread is to come up in the lower left hand hole, go through the bead, then back down in the upper right hand hole. This is a classic tent stitch. The bead will slant from the lower left to the upper right, just like the stitch. When covering a horizontal thread, come back up in the upper left hand hole, go through the bottom of the bead (the end nearest the lower left hand hole), and then go back down in the lower right hand hole. This will pull the bead into a horizontal position. Moving just like basketweave, continue to apply any beads covering horizontal threads in that diagonal row. 4 Area: Candy Cane Border Fibers: Very Velvet #V222, Petite Frosty Rays #217, Neon Rays+ #NP118, #16 Braid #308 Stitch: Padded Satin Stitch First step: lay in long horizontal and vertical runs of the Very Velvet for padding. When laying in the Very Velvet, it works best if you start your next stitch right next to the ending of the previous stitch, rather than carry all the way back to the beginning, as the long runs on the back will cause additional bulk once you cover the area with the other threads. Next, cover the entire border in a diagonal satin stitch using the Petite Frosty Rays. Go back and apply the wider red stripes using Neon Ray+, ensuring that the fiber lays flat, and does not twist. Finally, apply the thin red stripes with the #16 braid. Alternatively, you can just cover the white areas with the Petite Frosty Rays, and the wider red stripes with Neon Rays+ (the narrow stripes are still best applied on top, rather than leaving them blank,) but the previous technique gives better coverage. Area: Blue Background Fiber: 1ply Impressions #7035 Stitch: Reverse Basketweave Due to the weight of the thread this stitch gives very light coverage on the back, so be careful when anchoring other threads. 5 Area: Eyes Fiber: #16 Braid #005 Stitch: Smyrna Cross Variation Area: Nose Fiber: Very Velvet #V222, Petite Frosty Rays #PY071 Stitch: Padded Vertical Satin First lay in a layer of horizontal stitches of the Very Velvet, then apply at least 2 layers of vertical satin, using the Petite Frosty Rays. Area: Cheeks Fiber: Petite Frosty Rays #PY109 Stitch: Rhodes Circle Area: Mouth Fiber: Petite Very Velvet #V608 Stitch: Wrapped Stem Stitch Follow the count/direction for the stem stitch, then come back and wrap the stem stitch, only going back down at the end. 6 Area: Bowtie Ends Fiber: 1/8th Easter Grass Stitch: Random Radial Satin Using Sparkle Braid #SK06, couch the twist in place. The couching thread will be less apparent if you work you needle between the twist, rather than laying it over. The twist will be a little wobbly in place, but it is best to do this before the next step. Area: Red Candy Fiber: Miyuki Delica 10/0 #DB0602, #DB0603 Technique: Basketweave Beading See steps above. It is expected you will need to move the twist while beading this area, but it can easily be scooted back into place. Area: Candy Wrapper End Fiber: 1/8th Easter Grass Stitch: Random Radial Satin See graph at left. You will be able to follow the graph exactly for this area. Graph does not represent painted area, but shows a general direction. You may also want to lay in a layer of Petite Frosty Rays #PY217, as Easter Grass is completely clear. Area: Gold Border Fiber: 4mm Sequins #DM4-3, Sparkle Braid #SK06 Technique: Overlapping Sequin Application Area: Green Background Behind Candy Fiber: Silk and Ivory #183 Stitch: Tent Area: White Swirl Fibers: Memory Thread #6050, Sparkle Braid #SK06 Technique: Twisted and Couched To begin, using your needle, open up the holes on either side of the first stitch (either end) of the swirl. Coming from the back, thread both ends of a length of the Memory Thread through each hole, pulling so it is taut to the back. Twist the two threads together on the front, occasionally laying onto the swirl to check length. Once you have a twisted length long enough to cover the swirl, open up the holes on the opposite end, and plunge the two ends to the back, holding the twist in place on top. 6 Copyright, 2012
