3 SWARCO GLASS BEADS THE WELL-REFLECTED CHOICE GLASS BEADS AND ROAD MARKING MATERIALS Glass beads are the key components to make road markings visible at night. The beads and the marking material constitute a retroreflective system. The micro glass beads embedded in the marking material reflect the headlight of the car. That is why the marking seems to light up at night and thereby becomes better visible. This is a big advantage for road safety. HIGH PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS For applications with high demands regarding retroreflection and durability special glass beads are used. SWARCO is a leading provider of such beads and one of the few manufacturers who can produce glass beads with a refractive index higher than 1.9. INDUSTRIAL GLASS PRODUCTS Glass beads are also used in surface technology applications or as filler media. 4

4 THE WELL-REFLECTED CHOICE SWARCO GLASS BEADS Only when integrating glass beads of good optical quality as supplied by SWARCO, road markings become a clearly visible safety factor at night. Thanks to the glass beads embedded in the marking material, the stripings get a light-up effect and thus remain visible at night. This is the decisive plus for road safety. All glass bead products are available with anti-skid materials and/or coatings especially adapted to the applied road marking material and the individual requirements of the customer. 5

5 A STRONG PRODUCT PORTFOLIO SWARCOFLEX REFLECTIVE GLASS BEADS These are our high quality standard glass beads sized up to 850 µm providing good retroreflection values. They are produced in compliance with national and international norms (EN 1423, AASHTO, etc.). SWARCOFLEX beads are mainly used in paints, thermo (spray) plastics and cold (spray) plastics. SWARCOLUX BEAD BLENDS FOR MORE DEMANDING SYSTEMS SWARCOLUX are high quality glass bead blends of SWARCOFLEX and MEGALUX-BEADS. These blends, sized between 1 and 1400 µm, provide extraordinary reflectivity due to the improved optical properties of the bead surfaces. Thanks to their superior retroreflectivity, SWARCOLUX beads are particularly suited for systems with improved wet night visibility and for technically more demanding road marking systems such as structured or profiled stripings of thermoplastic, coldplastic and paints. MEGALUX-BEADS THE TOP REFLECTORS FOR RAINY NIGHTS The different method of producing MEGALUX-BEADS results in a state-of-the-art product giving maximum retroreflection. With their crystal-clear surfaces, very uniform retroreflection, less than 1% air inclusions, and sizes between 600 and 1400 µm, MEGALUX-BEADS are the perfect reflectors for all road marking systems with superior wet-night visibility. Adhesion-assisting coatings, developed for use with individual marking systems, lead to very homogeneous stripings with high durability and long-term retroreflectivity. 6

7 BEADS WITH TOP PERFORMANCE THE BRIGHT CHOICE SOLIDPLUS THE DURABILITY CHAMPIONS SOLIDPLUS are special class A glass beads in line with EN They are made from pure glass melt, have a refractive index of >1.6, and feature solidity, durability and long-term performance on a very high level. Depending on the marking system used, SOLIDPLUS are able to reach retroreflectivity levels above 1000 mcd/m 2 *lx. SOLIDPLUS beads are particularly suitable to enhance retroreflection of tunnel markings which are usually subject to soiling by exhaust fumes. Non-white markings, which due to their pigments have reduced reflectivity, get high retroreflection with SOLIDPLUS. SOLIDPLUS pumps up retroreflection of all established road marking systems (coldplastic, thermoplastic, solvent-based and waterborne paints) THE PERFECT BLEND SOLIDPLUS is also available as a bead blend in combination with SWARCOFLEX, SWARCOLUX or MEGALUX-BEADS. Suitable to improve the performance of all kinds of road marking systems. PLUS9BEADS TOP CLASS HIGH INDEX BEADS In a revolutionary manufacturing process, purest raw materials are melted into highly reflective material and shaped to finest microspheres. Sized between 200 and 1000 µm, these high index beads (nd >1.9) serve as powerful reflectors in high performance markings, e.g. for airports and tapes. 8
