2 Market Overview The nonwovens industry today remains bullish despite some consolidation led by the activities of PGI Nonwovens, which purchased industrial nonwovens maker Fiberweb and Brazilian-based spunmelt specialist Companhia Providencia earlier this year. Add to this the acquisition of Buckeye Technologies by Georgia-Pacific, Lydall s purchase of Andrew Industries, and German TWE Group s acquisition of Libeltex, and we estimate around 10% of total global production as been brought together over the past year or so even while the global nonwovens industry continues to expand. Increased investment both in developed regions and the developing world continues while new lines announced over the past several years have come on stream. Diversification may be this year s watchword. While last year we saw a growing dichotomy between hygiene and non-hygiene activities, these consolidations as well as other strategic moves throughout the industry have landed many different specialties under the same roof once again, with a boost to the overall competitive landscape. We think this translates into growth opportunity for suppliers everywhere, from machinery and equipment and raw material, to contract service and nonwovens manufacturers themselves.
