1 Who is Flat Stanley? Flat Stanley is based on the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. He is a boy who was flattened when a bulletin board accidentally fell on him. He uses his flatness to travel the world and visit new and exciting places. What is the Flat Stanley project? Elementary schools all around the world participate in this project. Visit In 2005, over 6,000 classrooms from 47 countries participated in this learning experience. In 2006, the Flat Stanley project went hi-tech using electronic mail and digital classrooms to help Stanley travel the world. In 2007, SMES participated in this project for the first time. How can my son or daughter participate? It s easy and fun to participate in the SMES Flat Stanley project! All you need to do is have your son or daughter decorate Flat Stanley, complete the cover letter, and mail these items along with the journal sheet to a relative or friend living in another community. When returned, please give the to the teacher or your Flat Stanley information to StoneMillPTA@comcast.net. All Flat Stanleys will be announced on the morning announcements and students will receive a small prize. What is the goal? One goal of this project is to stimulate interest in geography. Another goal is to stimulate interest in Stone Mill s 3 rd Annual National Geographic Bee, which will be held on January 26, Is there a deadline? 2 Flat Stanley Instructions 1. Decorate Flat Stanley 2. Complete the cover letter 3. Mail Flat Stanley, the cover letter, and the one-page journal to a friend or relative 4. Ask your friend or relative to complete the journal page, take a picture with your Flat Stanley, and mail these back to you** 5. Upon receipt, return to your teacher be sure to include your name, grade, teacher, and phone number/ address on the back of your Flat Stanley 6. All Flat Stanleys (or pictures of Flat Stanleys) will be displayed at SMES on the PTA bulletin board ** Your friend or relative also can send these items back to you by e- mail.
