1 Y6 Big Picture Autumn 1 Art, DT, Music and Performance Focus Highlights for this term: International Literacy Day Talk Like a Pirate Day International Day of Peace Roald Dahl Day Jeans for Genes Day The Big Draw Dyslexia Awareness Week Black History Month (October) UNICEF WHY Festival (October Last Week of ) Opportunities with Art: Take One Picture Subject Area, Links and Overview English: Fiction (3 Weeks) / Roald Dahl Day (1 Day) / Non-Fiction: Linked to Black History Month- Windrush (2 Weeks) Maths: Number- Place Value (2 Weeks) / Number- Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division (4 Weeks) Science: Living Things and their habitats (5 weeks) Humanities: Hi2/2.2 Extended chronological study Pupils should be taught a study of an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils chronological knowledge beyond Crime and punishment (resourced) - History of theatre/music - They came to our shores (100 years of immigration which could include ww2) Computing: Computer Science Espresso Coding All Year 6 units and hour of code Art / Design Technology: Painting -Learn to - Produce a portrait of a painter using tones of grey which emphasise the dark & light of the head - Mix paint colours to match subtle colour of someone or something - Produce a painting that captures the colour, tone & texture of an object - Design and paint an object, creating humour in the design P.E; Team Building ( activity challenges, team games) Music: Rounds, chords and chord sequences - sing a round in 4 parts, accompanying it with a 3-note chord sequence on keyboard; how to find the right notes on a keyboard; perform using voices and keyboards; create a class performance through practice and rehearsal (6 hours) R.E: RE Day 1- Hinduism (Diwali- October) PSHE: Rights and responsibilities: topical issues concerning health and wellbeing; rules and laws; the precedence of human rights over other laws, practices and traditions; consequences of anti-social behaviours; rights, responsibilities and duties; resolving difference, making decisions and choices; the range of religious and ethnic identities in the UK; how the media present information Taking care of the environment: responsibilities towards and how people contribute to communities and the environment; the lives of people living in other places; how the earth s resources are allocated; resolving differences Money matters: finance; earning money and deductions; enterprise This is for Autumn 1 and 2, for both Year 5 and Year 6

Computing: Computer Science Scratch and Python Art / Design Technology: Drawing - Learn to - Observe & record human bodies through a range of experiences as follows - Observe & record line, shape, form & texture of a hand - Complete half a b&w picture of face, using charcoal & white chalk - Mix coloured chalks with black/white to create tones & tints. Use in a drawing - Quick figure drawings from observation in fine & bold media - Make a portrait in chalks & charcoal creating texture in the marks - Produce a distorted self-portrait Create a collage & drawn portrait in the style of well-known artist P.E; Core Skills in isolation and combination progressing into game situation s Music: Synthetic sounds - Sequences and drum loops; listen to and plan patterns of sounds manipulated by ICT in a sequencer. America with significant differences and similarities. E.g. Link to Fairtrade of bananas in St Lucia (see Geography.org etc. for free and commercially available packs on St Lucia focussing on Geography). Understand some of the reasons for similarities and differences. Geographical Skills and fieldwork Use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping (Google Earth) to locate countries and describe features studied Extend to 6 figure grid references with teaching of latitude and longitude in depth. Expand map skills to include non-uk countries.
