Why do you feel that the issue is important and timely? Optimization and operational research widely employ advanced mathematical and analytic methods to determine better solutions and decisions to problems. Their importance has been often demonstrated, and they are in a continuous development in accordance to novel technologies and interdisciplinary approaches. The aim of this special issue is to collect high quality papers that cover a wide variety of subfields in Operations Research, so that different communities can learn from each other. 2. What scientists are expected to participate in the Special Issue? We expect contributors from both sides of science: research oriented practitioners, and theoreticians, all of them being experts and professionals in the field of Operations Research.

3 3. Why the Guest Editorial Team is relevant and suitable to justify their editorship of the proposed Special Issue? All members of the Guest Editorial Team are experts in the field of the proposed Special Issue, and in journal s field as well. They are professionals with wide experience and amazing results in their fields of interests. Their special skills, knowledge, and judgment completely justify their editorship of the proposed Special Issue. Their bio-sketches are included below. Professor Nenad Mladenovic is currently at Mathematical Institute, Belgrade, Serbia. He was teaching in France, United Kingdom, Canada and Belgium. He was keynote speaker on several international conferences and the editor in chief or editorial member of dozen international journals and several special issues as well. He has published more than 250 research papers and books and book chapters. Mladenovic is on the world leading experts in the fields of combinatorial optimization and heuristics. He is a member of European Academy of Sciences (Academia Europea), Academy of Nonlinear Sciences, Serbian Scientific Society, acts as a President of National (Serbian) Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Professor Panos M. Pardalos serves as distinguished professor of industrial and systems engineering at the University of Florida. Additionally, he is the Paul and Heidi Brown Preeminent Professor of industrial and systems engineering. He is also an affiliated faculty member of the computer and information science Department, the Hellenic Studies Center, and the biomedical engineering program. He is also the director of the Center for Applied Optimization. Pardalos is a world leading expert in global and combinatorial optimization. His recent research interests include network design problems, optimization in

4 telecommunications, e-commerce, data mining, biomedical applications, and massive computing. He has published more than 650 research papers and book chapters. Professor Milorad Vidovic is a professor at Logistics Department, Faculty of Transportation and Traffic Engineering at University of Belgrade. At Logistics Department he has hold courses in materials handling, simulation of logistics systems, and reverse logisticsat Logistics Department of his faculty. His research areas include solving different real world optimization problems in logistics and transportation, mostly by applying mathematical programming methods, meta-heuristics and simulation. He has been the principal investigator on two international bilateral research projects, and 4 national research projects funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Serbia. He has been member of few professional and research associations, reviewer of several national and international journals, chair or program committee member of over 10 committees of international conferences in the last 5 years. He has published two books, around 15 papers in international scientific journals, 2 book chapters and over 100 papers in international and national conference proceedings and has been supervised 7 PhD students to completion. Professor Dragan Urosevic is currently at Mathematical Institute, Belgrade, Serbia. He is also associate professor at the University Union, Faculty of Computer Science where he lectures courses in algorithm design, mathematical modeling and operations research. His research interests are related to combinatorial optimization, mathematical modeling, metaheuristics and algorithm design. He has published more than 100 research papers, book chapters and conference papers.

The total length of the Special Issue should not exceed 162 pages (including the editorial text). 2. Analytical instructions for the submission process may be found in the journal s website arch/journal/12351), however, the following should be emphasized: a. A double-blind reviewing procedure should be followed in all submissions. b. All authors should submit their manuscripts online. 3. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the final acceptance of manuscripts. 4. The Call for Papers for this Special Issue is open to all researchers in the field.
