2 Introduction The Design Society is an international non-governmental, nonprofit making organisation whose members share a common interest in design. The Society strives to contribute to a broad and formalized understanding of all aspects of design, and to promote the use of the knowledge generated and acquired for the good of humanity. The Design Society is a charitable body, registered in Scotland, number SC , Registered Company Number: SC401016

3 Introduction The Design Society was announced at the 13 th ICED conference in Galsgow in August The new Society was declared as: broadly based, flexible and professional, open to all branches and disciplines of design, agenda-based, acts in respect to local and cultural activities, democratic in nature.

4 WDK Years The Design Society evolved from the Workshop Design-Konstruktion (WDK) Society WDK legacy: 13 ICED conferences and 28 volumes on engineering design research

20 The Design Science Journal The new journal Design Science was launched in 2015 as a collaboration between the DS and CUP (Cambridge University Press). Goal: Make rigorous design research widely accessible across multiple disciplines. Open-access; journals.cambridge.org/dsj Editors: Panos Y. Papalambros and John S. Gero with a thirty-member board of associate editors.
