4 12 ADVANCED ENGINEERING For much of the 20th century, Nottingham was one of the great manufacturing cities of the Midlands through its textiles and engineering industries. While some of the names which once defined the sector have gone, manufacturing has evolved into new forms: today, Nottingham is home to a range of innovative traditional engineering businesses, high tech companies and scientific support. With world class expertise in areas including automotive, aerospace and engineering, Nottingham is a driving force in the UK s engineering sector.
