4 Section 5 Art & Craft 1 Starfish Pin Cushion Cut a template from card. We used an old fishy duvet cover bought from e-bay for the fabric. Using pinking shears cut out 2 stars each. Sew up inside out leaving a gap to fill with stuffing buy a cheap pillow, cut up and use as the stuffing. Turn right side out and using a knitting needle or pencil push out all the points before filling with stuffing. Sew up the gap. Decorate as you like we used googley eyes but you can sew on buttons. Make a demo one before trying with the girls and have plenty of helpers to assist with needle threading, unknotting etc!! 2 - Baby Fish Beads (see below) or alternatively use Hama beads with peg boards to make sea creatures!

10 5 Bling a Bucket Using all sorts of lovely lovely bits like stick on jewels, silver foil, bottle lids, mirrors, buttons etc. decorate a plain seaside bucket and turn it into something spectacular. You could do the spade to match. 6 Sand Pictures or Bottles You need several shades of coloured sand. This could be bought pre-coloured or you could have a go at doing your own before the meeting. You need a small piece of thick card about 10 cm x 6 cm. Cover the card with double sided sticky tape. Have pots of your coloured sand ready. Unpeel the double sided tape a bit at a time then dip the sticky piece of card into the sand. Unpeel another bit and change colour. Keep going until your card is full. Alternatively use PVA or stick glue to stick coloured sand to a picture of your choice one colour at a time! Bottles At some seaside resorts you can buy or make sand bottles they are usually small. Have plenty of coloured sand available and using a small plastic drinks bottle fill up your bottle with different patterns until it is completely full then put on the lid. Remember if you shake it up the pattern will disappear so its important to keep the bottles stood still. 8 Decorated Scallop Shell Large Scallop shells can be purchased from craft shops and e-bay. If you just want a few you could try your local fish shop or supplier. Decorate them using Acrylic paint for instance. Spray with varnish to make them shine and protect them. You could use nail varnish in a well ventilated or outdoor setting but it does get a bit smelly!! Alternatively find a smooth stone to paint with Acrylic paint in a seaside theme. Varnish to protect the paint. Cobble type stones can be bought from most garden centres. Please don t take stones off the beach! 9 Paint a Terracotta Plant Pot Take your time to create something special. Paint a terracotta plant pot with a seaside design. Use emulsion paint (tester pots) for better coverage and varnish to protect the paint work especially if it will be going outside. 10 Newspaper Fish Picture This activity can be done individually, in small groups or en mass! Use a sheet of blue paper or fabric as your background. Using newspapers and magazines cut out shapes of creatures and plants found under the sea how clever & creative can you be?
