Line Follower Enhanced Regulations 1. Generalities The Line Follower Enhanced competition s goal is finishing, in the shortest possible time, a track specially designed for this competition. A team does not need to have a certain number of members. However, each team must have a captain. Each team has 3 attempts to finish the track. The best time is taken into consideration. The start will take place at the referee s signal. An attempt ends when the robot crosses the finish line. Time will be recorded using an automatic gate system. Time will be measured from the moment the robot crosses the start line until the moment it crosses the finish line. Because the route will be a closed curve, the start and finish line will be the same. After every team has finished its attempts, all teams will be ranked by time in ascending order. 2. During the event 2.1 Robot Registration Each robot needs to fulfill the registration requirements in order to be able to compete. All the robots will be checked in the day of the competition. Registration requirements are: a) to fulfill the Robot Requirements for Line Follower Enhanced competition (Section 3) b) to comply with General Conditions listed above c) to check if the robot follows the line
Any robot able to fulfill the aforementioned requirements is able to take part in the Line Follower Enhanced competition. Each team will be given a registration number which they stick on the robot during the competition. This will be the robot's registering number and should be visible at all times. The organizers discourage teams participating with a robot not built by themselves. Due to that, during Robot Registration, the teams may be required to prove their contribution in building of the robot. If a team's members are unable to prove their robot was made by them, the organizers reserve the right to deny the robot's registration, leading to its inability to take part in the competition. 2.2 During the competition Before the start, each team must register its robot. From the moment a robot is registered until the competition officially begins, each participating team may test its robot. When the competition starts, each team will be called out by the referees and has 5 minutes to come to the track for the attempt. If the 5 minutes expire and the team does not show up, the next team will be called out. The team running late may show up later during the current round. If the team does not show up until the end of the current round, their attempt will be recorded with 3 minutes. Each team has the right to 3 attempts. The best time will be taken into consideration. There will not be 2 consecutive attempts. Each team has the right to reprogram the robot between any 2 attempts. The robot will be brought to the start line by only one team member. When the referee gives the start signal, the team member must exit the track. From the moment the signal is given, the robot has 3 minutes to complete the track. If the robot goes beyond the 3 minute mark, the recorded time for that attempt will be recorded with 3 minutes.
If the robot will loose the reference (black line) it should return to it's course at as close as possible to that particular point. A successful recovery will be accepted if the robot did not skip an important checkpoint of the track (curve, intersection, obstacles, others). If the robot can not recover, it is allowed to have one more single attempt within the specified 3 minutes window. The winner of this competition will be the team whose robot finishes first. If no robot finishes the track, the winner will be the one which went the farthest. If a robot malfunctions during an attempt, its team has 3 minutes to fix it. If it either cannot be fixed or is not fixed during that time period, the attempt is considered finished and the recorded time will be 3 minutes. 2.3 Violations and sanctions A. Indecent behavior is strictly forbidden - will lead to a disqualification B. Under no circumstances should any member of any team interact with a robot during an attempt. This will lead to immediate termination of the attempt, which will be recorded with 3 minutes. C. Asking for an interruption of an attempt without solid reasons will lead to a recorded time of 3 minutes for that attempt. D. No objections are allowed regarding the referees' decisions. E. If there are any objections, these should be pointed out by the team captain, during the respective round, to the organizers. Should it happen that no organizer is around, objections will be addressed to the jury. 3. Robot Requirements Any robot not meeting these requirements will be automatically disqualified. Size The maximum permitted size is 30 cm x 30 cm (L x W) (+ 2 mm per side) with no height limit. Weight The maximum permitted weight for a robot is 2 kg.
Autonomy During the time the robot performs, it must be completely autonomous. Any interaction, direct or remote, with a robot while it is on the track after the start signal is given will lead to disqualification. Components The robot and its components must not alter or destroy the track. Furthermore, it is prohibited for robots to make use of certain liquids, flames or any other components of this kind. Wheel adherence Wheels must not keep an A4 format paper stuck for more than 3 seconds. 4. Track description 4.1 The track surface will be build out of white wood, sized 2.8 m x 1.0 m. 4.2 The track will be marked with black insulating tape with a 15 mm width. 4.3 Minimum distance from the surface's margin to the track: 15 cm. 4.4 Minimum distance between 2 adjacent lines: 15 cm. 4.5 Minimum ray of a curve: 75 mm. 4.6 Minimum angle value of a turn: 90 o. 4.7 The track will not contain crossroads. 4.8 In a certain place on the track, the line is interrupted for minimum 10 cm. The interruption will be placed on a straight line to ensure track continuity. 4.9 A white obstacle (parallelepiped) with the approximate dimensions of 25 cm x 12 cm x 6,5 cm (L x W x H) will be placed on the track. The robot must avoid it There will be a turning bridge (see Annex 1). The black line on the bridge will be continuous The start and finish line will be marked with a 40 cm wide automatic gate.
5. Organizers' responsibilities 5.1 Organizers are obliged to ensure the well development of the competition according to the aforementioned set of rules. 5.2 Organizers are obliged to upload, on the competition's site ( a scheme of the track and the effective time when the building of the track will start. When the track is finished, teams may use it to test their robots making sure no damage will occur during tests 5.3 Organizers take no responsibility in the malfunctioning of the robots due to the building's lighting or the cameras' flash. 5.4 Participating teams are fully responsible for the safety of their robots and for any damage caused by themselves and the robot. 5.5 Organizers are not responsible for any damaged caused by any of the participating teams or their equipment. 6.
