On December 4, 1956, these four star musicians gathered at Sun Records in Memphis, the studios of legendary record producer Sam Phillips for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions of all time. MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET brings that legendary night to life, featuring a score of rock hits including Blue Suede Shoes, Fever, That s All Right, Sixteen Tons, Great Balls of Fire, Walk the Line, Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On, Who Do You Love?, Matchbox, Folsom Prison Blues, Hound Dog and many more. 3 Submission Process Please suggestions along with headshots and resumes to: Suggestions must be submitted by Monday 27 June All submissions must include suggested role, audition city and any restrictions over the audition dates. All roles that play instruments in the production will be asked to accompany themselves at their audition. There will be a PA system in the audition room with the necessary microphones etc for the auditions. A piano or keyboard will be provided for Jerry Lee Lewis candidates. Guitar players and upright bass players should bring their own instruments. A guitar amplifier and cable will be provided. ELVIS PRESLEY (Male) Actor/singer/guitar player to portray Elvis in his 20s at the beginning of his career. Must be familiar with his music and able to play guitar; should sound and look somewhat like Elvis without being an impersonator. Acoustic Guitar - needs to be a highly competent rhythm player with a strong feel and accurate timing, proficient in rock and roll, rockabilly and country grooves. For the auditions, actors will be asked to prepare an Elvis Presley song from the list below and an additional song of their choice. All applicants must accompany themselves on the acoustic guitar. In the production, Elvis sings: Memories Are Made Of This That s All Right Long Tall Sally Peace In The Valley Party Hound Dog

4 Playing age: Instrument: Acoustic Guitar Vocal Range: Sings to G in chest and C in falsetto. Must be able to sing to the G in a light tone (for That s Alright Mama ). Must have authentic rock and roll vocal style and also be able to sing gospel ( Peace In The Valley ). JERRY LEE LEWIS (Male) Actor/singer/pianist; he was rock & roll s legendary piano prodigy and celebrated Last Man Standing. Must be a superb piano player, able to play like Jerry Lee Lewis; fun, energetic; comic skills a plus. Jerry Lee is noticeably younger and more wild than the other men. Piano - must play to a high professional level in authentic JLL style. Must have a driving left hand and be proficient in the various JLL bass grooves. Must be able to play authentic rock and roll solos, and should have a wide palette of licks, riffs and rhythmic patterns and be able to comp in rock and roll, rockabilly and country styles. For the auditions, actors will be asked to prepare a Jerry Lee Lewis song from the list below and an additional song of their choice. All applicants must accompany themselves on the piano. In the production, Jerry Lee Lewis sings: Real Wild Child Great Balls Of Fire Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On Brown Eyed Handsome Man Playing age: Instrument: Piano, Maracas Vocal Range: Sings to A in chest and C in falsetto. Must have authentic JLL vocal style, and also be proficient and accurate with harmonies.

5 JOHNNY CASH (Male) Actor/singer/guitar player to portray Johnny cash at the dawn of his epic career. Must be familiar with his music and able to play guitar; tall; sombre and humble demeanour and should sound and look somewhat like Johnny without being an impersonator. Acoustic Guitar - needs to be a highly competent rhythm player with a strong feel and accurate timing, proficient in rock and roll, rockabilly and country grooves. For the auditions, actors will be asked to prepare a Johnny Cash song from the list below and an additional song of their choice. All applicants must accompany themselves on the acoustic guitar. In the production, Johnny Cash sings: Folsom Prison Blues Sixteen Tons I Walk The Line Riders In The Sky Playing age: Height: Tall Instrument: Acoustic Guitar Vocal Range: Must have a strong and deep-toned low range. Sings down to low E in solos, and low D in harmony parts. Ability to fake a low B is an advantage. Sings up to an E in chest. Must sing in authentic country/rockabilly style. CARL PERKINS (Male) Actor/singer/guitar player (lead guitar); he was the American pioneer of rockabilly music and best known for his song Blue Suede Shoes ; Must be an excellent lead guitarist. To be played slightly thuggish and desperately searching for a new hit. Electric Guitar - must play 50s style lead to a high professional standard and have a strong and accurate rhythmic feel. Should know several Carl Perkins solos and also be competent in the styles of contemporary players like Scotty Moore (particularly That s Alright Mama ), Chuck Berry, etc.

6 For the auditions, actors will be asked to prepare a Carl Perkins song from the list below and an additional song of their choice. All applicants must accompany themselves on the electric guitar. Ability to play harmonica an asset. In the production, Carl Perkins sings: Matchbox Who Do You Love? My Babe Brown Eyed Handsome Man See You Later, Alligator" Honey Don t Playing age: Instrument: Electric Guitar Vocal Range: Sings to high A in chest, must have authentic rock and roll/rockabilly vocal style. SAM PHILLIPS (Male) The founder of Sun Records and the man responsible for discovering Elvis, Perkins, Cash and Lewis. A wise and confident manner, with a dry sense of humour is necessary for this charismatic leading figure of Rock'n Roll. No vocals are required for this role. Playing age: Instrument: n/a Vocal Range: n/a DYANNE (Female) Actor and singer; Elvis s girlfriend; attractive; great singer with a wide range. Sings solos and back-up vocals. Strong vocal abilities required. In the production, Dyanne sings: Fever (similar arrangement to Elvis version) I Hear You Knocking

7 Playing age: Instrument: Tambourine Vocal Range: Smoky, sensual tone (for Fever ). Strong rock belt to C# (for I Hear You Knocking ). Pure head tone to high A. Must have authentic rock and roll phrasing and tone - not a musical theatre voice. Need to be proficient and accurate with harmony parts. UNDERSTUDIES (Male or female) Onstage understudies of all ages to cover the musical skills as above. 2 Male understudies 1 Female understudy One of the understudies will double as the Musical Director for the production. Playing age: Height: Vocal Range: Any Any Strong singers able to cover the above mentioned roles JAY PERKINS (Male) Brother of Carl Perkins - Bass player. This is a musician s role. Has to play upright rockabilly slap bass at a high professional level; should be comfortable saying a few lines in a southern American accent. Ability to do bass tricks is required (e.g. spinning the bass, standing on it while playing, playing it like a guitar, playing it lying down, etc) This is a musician s role.
