1 ICSU as co-organising partner of the Science and Technology Major Group

2 Global intergovernmental body Oversees the implementation of the outcomes of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit and the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) held in Johannesburg As co-organising partner for a Major Group, ICSU plays a major role in the annual meetings of the CSD, providing official written input and participating actively in the discussions Over the CSD work cycle focused on transport, chemicals, waste management, mining and sustainable consumption and production patterns 2

3 Nine Major Groups are identified in Agenda 21 (Rio 1992), which will participate in the work of the Preparatory Committee, the Regional Meetings, and the Rio+20 conference itself: women; youth and children; indigenous people; non-governmental organizations; local authorities; workers and trade unions; business and industry; scientific and technological community; and farmers ICSU is co-organising partner for the Scientific and Technological Community Major Group, together with the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). 3

All workshops are held in cooperation with WFEO, ISSC and other regional stakeholders. 9
