2 I. Installation To install the program, run Fuzzy Image Editor.msi and follow the prompts. Then go to your Program Files/Team6/FuzzyImageEditor folder, right click and run the exe as administrator.

3 II. Interacting with the Main Window At the start of a program, you need to load an image into the program. This can be done by clicking File > Open and selecting an image and pressing open. A new image may be opened at any time. The support file formats are BMP, GIF, JPEG, EXIF, PNG and TIFF.

4 III. Using Filters A filter can be applied by clicking Filters and then selecting the filter you would like to apply. Some filters also have a quick button at the bottom of the program. Once you have selected a filter, you will be presented with a preview window. The preview window lets you select parameters that are relevant to the filter and show you a small section of the image with that filter applied. This preview window also lets you pan around the image. Once you are ready, you can click okay to apply that filter to the image or cancel to not make any changes. Accessing the Filters Menu

5 a. Contrast A contrast filter makes bright colors brighter and dark colors darker. This moves the colors towards the edges of the spectrums. Parameter window for the Contrast Filter By checking or unchecking any of the Red, Green, and Blue boxes, you can determine which channels have the filter applied to them. The image shown will be the results of the filter with the current settings on a small part of the image. The subsection of the image can be moved with the up, down, left, right buttons by holding a button down and stopping the movement by releasing the button. The lower right button will toggle the preview window to show the filtered subsection or the original. Press the okay button to apply the filter with the current settings to the entire image or cancel to not apply any changes.

6 b. Inverse Contrast An inverse contrast filter makes bright colors darker and dark colors brighter. This moves the colors towards the middle of the spectrum. 7 c. Sharpening A sharpening filter enhances the clarity of an image and makes details in an image more vibrant. Parameter window for the Sharpening Filter Sharpening has a variable Mask Size that changes how the filter is applied. The larger mask size reduces the strength of the sharpening. By checking or unchecking any of the Red, Green, and Blue boxes, you can determine which channels have the sharpening applied to them. The image shown will be the results of the filter with the current settings on a small part of the image. The subsection of the image can be moved with the up, down, left, right buttons by holding a button down and stopping the movement by releasing the button. The lower right button will toggle the preview window to show the filtered subsection or the original. Press the okay button to apply the filter with the current settings to the entire image or cancel to not apply any changes.

8 d. Noise Reduction A noise reduction filter removes unwanted random variations of brightness or color information in the image. Parameter window for the Noise Reduction Filter The filter strength settings allow for noise reduction to be applied more aggressively. The stronger the noise reduction, the longer it will take to apply the filter. With the Strong or Extra Strength settings enabled, the preview image can take several seconds to update. By default, the preview does not show the image with the filter applied. Recommended usage is to select the portion of the image you are interested in seeing with the filter applied, then click the "With Filter" button in the lower right hand corner of the parameter window. To apply the filter to the entire image, click the "Okay" button, to exit without applying the filter you may either click the "Cancel" button, or close the parameter window using the control at the top.

9 e. Edge Detection An edge detection filter finds the parts of an image where there are boundaries and marks them in white. Parameter window for the Noise Reduction Filter Edge detection has a variable sensitivity level that changes how many edges will be detected by the filter. A lower sensitivity will increase the number of edges, with 0 being the highest sensitivity. The sensitivity can be changed by modifying the number in the text box and by hitting refresh. The image shown will be the results of the filter with the current sensitivity on a small part of the image. The subsection of the image can be moved with the up, down, left, right buttons by holding a button down and stopping the movement by releasing the button. The lower right button will toggle the preview window to show the filtered subsection or the original. Press the okay button to apply the filter with the current sensitivity to the entire image or cancel to not apply any changes.

10 f. Zoom In The zoom in functionality allows the user to select a rectangle on the image and then magnifies the selected area in a new window. In order to zoom in on an image, select the area on the image that you want to zoom into by clicking on the image and dragging the cursor, forming a rectangle. Then click the zoom button in the bottom row of buttons. After an area has been selected and the zoom button pressed, a second window will appear with the selected area magnified. From this window the user can either save the image by pressing the save button or close the window by pressing the okay or cancel buttons.

11 IV. Other Features A filter may be undone by selecting Edit > undo or by clicking the undo button at the bottom. You may also redo what you undid by selected redo. If you would like to make a comparison to the previous version of the image, you can do so by clicking SideBySide after applying a filter. The previous version of the image will be opened in the other window. This image will remain the same, even when you apply filters in the other window. To update this image, simply click the SideBySide button again. To save your changes, click File > Save as or use the Save As button at the bottom. You will be prompted for a file name. V. Error Messages Out of memory Exception: The program s stack is out of memory. This usually occurs on images of greater than 50 MB. VI. Maintenance From a maintenance point of view, further additions to the program would include adding more filters, adding object recognition functionality, making user interface refinements, and optimizations to existing filters.
