PAN-ROBOTS consortium proposes a new generation of flexible, cost effective, safe and green AGVs in combination with advanced infrastructure systems. Those advanced AGVs will be able to transport material and products in modern factories based on autonomous on-board path planning and navigation to enable high flexibility. The perception system to guide the AGVs through the factory will be based on a novel cooperative approach. Advanced on-board sensors will be combined with infrastructure sensors to enhance the cost effectiveness and increase safety. The fleet management will be intuitive and easy to use by workers without specialized training. In addition the installation time and costs will be dramatically reduced by semiautomated plant exploration supported by a localization approach utilizing already existing landmarks and an advanced pallet handling system which detects and picks the pallets autonomously. Finally, the developed generic system will be exemplarily validated in the production process of a bottling company and against the needs provided by the already established PAN-ROBOTS user group Euro. Sick A.G. (Germany). Private company Regional project (Emilia Romagna) DIRO : Distretto Regionale della Robotica Mobile The project DIRO links leading companies manufacturing systems (Elettric 80, AGV, Emak, gardening machine), and component manufacturers (Zivan, products for electric vehicles, Motor Power Company, electric drives and mechatronic systems, Tellure Rota, production of wheels, ADEL System automation systems), in collaboration with the laboratory- INTERMECH MECTRON, in particular with its headquarters in Reggio Emilia which is located in the department DISMI University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the center for innovation and technology transfer DEMOCENTER-SIPE, the CIRI of Advanced MECHANICS and MATERIALS (UO Automation, robotics and mechatronics, at DEIS, University of Bologna) and the Club of Mechatronics Industrial Association of the Province of Reggio Emilia. The main objective of the workshop DIRO is the development and experimental verification of innovative methodologies and technologies for the field of autonomous systems operations, also through the sharing of specific experiences of applicants assisted by the expertise of university research groups Euro. 4

Project Abstract Cost of Name of administration owner of Type of initiative STRATOS: open System for TRAcTOrs autonomous Operations The main objective of the STRATOS project is to develop an open ICT hardware-software infrastructure enabling the partial automation of tractors and at the same time enhancing their operational safety and production efficiency, with the positive effects of reduced accident risk and environmental impact. In more detail, STRATOS project target is to develop and demonstrate new functions enabled by ISOBUS technology (ISO 11783) that support a substantial improvement of the quality of the farming jobs. In particular the idea is to develop a technology based on ISOBUS compliant, wireless self-powered sensor network for the real time measurement of soil and harvester conditions. In this way, Task Controller (an ICT component defined by ISOBUS specification which supervises actively the farming job performed by the tractor) can optimize the whole tractor and implement operational modes to improve the farming job quality and safety of the overall systems Euro. 6 Project Abstract Cost of Name of administration owner of The ADAPTIVE project aims at developing technologies and solutions to enhance the ability of modern factories to be flexible and efficient, appropriately responding to unpredictable changes in market requests. Modern industries and factories for the production and packaging of products have reached a high degree of automation. Robotic cells for the support of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines work side by side with fast automatic machine in modern manufacturing lines to achieve production quality and speed that is absolutely necessary to play a leading role in the current competitive global market. However, very often robotic cells and automatic machineries are build having in mind production speed and efficiency, with main constraint the development cost. Mechanical and control software parts are usually developed in monolithic manner for satisfying the target specification of the machine, with very little space for any modification or re-use of the parts and components. Therefore is usually difficult to adapt a robotic cell or an automatic machine in a production line to accommodate production changes request due, for example, the changes in market request. This difficult is mainly due to a lack of methodology and technology that enable the concepts of adaptation and modular development of machines and robotic cells. The project aims to the development of innovative devices and machines for supporting the asautonomous-as-possible reconfiguration and adaptation of machinery and robots, as basis for supporting mass customized and highly personalized products and fast reactions to shifts of market demands. To achieve this target, will address three main technical objectives: Objective 1: Re-configurability and flexibility of robotic cells. The objective is to extend the scope of industrial robots in areas of strategic importance for the development of industry, such as finishing and assembly of precision, through the creation of techniques and technologies for an intelligent factory. In particular, the target is in the development of smart robotic cells with a high level of automation capable to process different products, in shape, dimension and material. Objective 2: Flexible, modular and adaptive manufacturing systems. This objective aims to the development of next-generation production machines with improved automation for achieving a high flexibility and re-configurability of the whole production line. The target is to achieve an automatic or semi-automatic reconfiguration of the production line to handle changes in product and/or working conditions in order to keep the level of the production quality unchanged. Objective 3: Human-machine adaptive and efficient interfaces. Immersive and symbiotic collaboration between human workers and robots leads to a more efficient and flexible manufacturing environment. This objective aims to develop innovative way to make easier the cooperation between humans and robots, allowing new paradigms for easy programming and, thus, enabling machines and robots full flexibility from the user point of view. Cognition -based intelligent features and prediction-based reactive control strategies within machinery and robots will be used to radically change their interfacing towards human workers in manufacturing environments Euro.
