Welcome to nottingham
1 WELCOME TO NOTTINGHAM Nottingham is the home of Original global enterprise: Alliance Boots and Experian Business & technology talent: The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University International sporting brands: Nottingham Forest Football Club and Trent Bridge Cricket Ground Groundbreakers: Paul Smith and Speedo Innovators: The city where Ibuprofen was discovered, the MRI scanner invented, the Mosaic demographics tool developed, and the Boots No7 brand conceptualised. Connections: One of the most ambitious and extensive infrastructure development programmes in Europe, with nearly 800 million invested in expanding an integrated urban transport network and superfast broadband. Nottingham is a place where a young, well-educated population supports the continuing growth of high tech engineering, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, data analytics and digital media, logistics and distribution, business and professional support services, and of vital emerging sectors like clean technology and the creative economy. Crucially, Nottingham is also the place where a 60 million, Government-backed City Deal offers developers and businesses access to bespoke financial support packages unique to the city. That support is designed to enable YOU to take advantage of a series of substantial inward investment opportunities ranging from an incentivised Enterprise Zone with co-location opportunities to a vibrant new Creative Quarter at the very heart of the city. In the words of Mark Carney, the Governor of the Bank of England, Nottingham is a national "bellwether" for the real economy. Join us as we build on a heritage of innovation and investing for growth
ADVANCED ENGINEERING Rolls Royce, Hucknall
12 ADVANCED ENGINEERING For much of the 20th century, Nottingham was one of the great manufacturing cities of the Midlands through its textiles and engineering industries. While some of the names which once defined the sector have gone, manufacturing has evolved into new forms: today, Nottingham is home to a range of innovative traditional engineering businesses, high tech companies and scientific support. With world class expertise in areas including automotive, aerospace and engineering, Nottingham is a driving force in the UK s engineering sector. With manufacturing accounting for around a quarter of the region's economic output, there are a number of supply chain companies based in and around Nottingham fuelled by the presence nearby of industrial giants like Rolls-Royce, Bombardier, and Toyota. Their relentless drive to invest in R&D has resulted in the growth of high-end research work for the aerospace industry at the University of Nottingham, which has long-term relationships with industry giants such as Boeing and Airbus. The city has also seen the emergence of vibrant small and medium enterprises offering expertise in highly specialised fields and high levels of agility and flexibility. Businesses such as Romax Technologies - are recognised as a world leader in R&D for transmission technologies for applications ranging from automotive to energy.
Advanced engineering 13 Manufacturing accounts for more than 76,000 jobs, 14% of the overall workforce, in the Nottingham city region Key disciplines include aerospace, automotive, component manufacturing, food and drink, consumer goods and pharmaceuticals. There is significant cross-over into Low Carbon Technologies as the drive to make manufacturing more sustainable continues Nottingham is a world leading centre of excellence for manufacturing and engineering R&D. Its two universities excel in work on advanced manufacturing technologies, composites and manufacturing, aerospace, medicines and bio manufacturing and food and drink Leading research institutions based in the city include The Institute of Advanced Manufacturing, the Institute for Aerospace Technology, the University Centre in Manufacturing Technology. They have partnerships with businesses such as Rolls- Royce, Toyota, GSK, BAE Systems and many more Top employers in the sector include Rolls-Royce, ZF Services UK, Romax Technology, Bulwell Precision Engineers, Avingtrans, Greene Tweed, Hemlock Engineering and many others Manufacturing sectors in Nottingham We chose Nottingham because the city has great access to the main engineering partners in the UK Brent Lui, Vice General Manager, Changan Automobile UK Institute of Advanced Manufacturing
ABOUT INVEST IN NOTTINGHAM 37 Invest in Nottingham is the inward investment organisation for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
