2 THE PETER SEFTON FURNITURE SCHOOL In the small, scenic town of Upton-Upon-Severn, Peter Sefton runs a private, purpose-built school dedicated solely to teaching bespoke furniture making and fine woodworking. The school offers courses lasting from 2 days to 9 months for people of all ages and levels of experience. Students at the Peter Sefton Furniture School receive nearly 5 times the tutoring / bench time offered by traditional college courses. This emphasis on hands-on experience means that Peter needs reliable, easy-to-use machines that will stand up to daily wear-and-tear. He chose to fully equip his workshop with machines from Hammer in I was very impressed with the quality of engineering of the Hammer machines, Peter reports. With a number of users each day, it ensures great results for each student with predictable quality. Students start their machine training with the N4400 Bandsaw. The fine adjustable upper and lower bandsaw guides make for easy set-up, unlike the flat friction blocks found in other machines. They then progress to either the Felder A7-41 Surface Planer or the A3-41 Planer-Thicknesser. The main advantage of the A3-41 machine is the the easy changeover from planing to thicknessing, says Peter. Students are also surprised at the high accuracy of Hammer machines; they learn that getting timber straight and square is the first step in accuracy for the entire project.
3 Sawing is the next skill learnt on the K3 Winner Circular Saw, complete with the Comfort Feature Package. The 2000 mm format sliding table and outrigger table make it even easier to process workpieces of various sizes. The small footprint of the machine is also an important factor when planning a workshop. Finally, students progress to the F3 Tilting Spindle Moulder, where Peter trains them in the art of moulding, rebating, tenoning and ring fence work. The reliable performance of his Hammer machines has enabled Peter to expand the range of courses on offer. We have introduced specialist courses such as chairmaking and we run more short courses for those with tight schedules, Peter reveals. Open days are held in July for prospective students to get a glimpse of what their course will involve. More information about the wide range of bespoke furniture making courses Peter offers is available on or by phoning or visit or phone
4 Peter runs a private purpose-built furniture school in the UK dedicated solely to teaching woodworking and furniture making. The School has a wide range of long and short courses for small groups all year round from workshops in rural Worcestershire. They are located at the foot of the Malvern Hills with superb facilities within 3 acres of grounds on a 17th century Farmstead. Whether you are an aspiring professional furniture maker or a keen hobbyist, just starting out or making a career change, there are courses to suit everyone; from 2 or 3 day short courses in skills such as wood machining or French polishing or maybe you prefer a 5 day beginners or chair making course:- Beginner 5 Days Sharpening, Tool Care and Joint Cutting Improver 5 Days Make a Small Table with Tapered Legs Veneering & Laminating 3 Days A Veneered Tray with Laminated Handles Wood Machining 2 or 3 Days or Using Hammer and Felder Machines Chairmaking 5 Days With Paul Hodgson Make a Clissett Ladder-back Chair French Polishing & Refinishing 2 Days Hands-on staining & re-finishing Modern Wood Finishing2 Days Practical hand finishing techniques Professional Long Course 9 Month - 13,950 6 Month - 9,950 3 Month - 5,950 You may even want to complete a longer course for 3, 6 or 9 months to develop your skills to a professional level, whether you want to take your hobby to a new level or train for a new career. 5 WOOD MACHINING COURSE For those who are new to wood machining or have been using their own machines with limited experience Course Dates 22 nd -23 rd /24 th Jul 2015 Cost 275 for 2 Days 400 for 3 Days Duration 2 Days or 3 Days Course Overview Why choose this course? This course is designed for those who are new to wood machining or have been using their own machines with limited experience. It will also be useful to students who need to be updated on the latest regulations and safe systems of work, including ACoP (Approved Code of Practice). If you are unfamiliar with wood machines, they can be daunting. The emphasis of this course will be on accurate and efficient use of modern woodworking machines operated within craft workshops. The machines that you will use are mainly from the Hammer and Felder range and comply with the latest legislation. You will be given practical demonstrations and hands-on experience; Peter has many years experience in wood machining techniques and teaching those new to using machines. The third day is dedicated solely to the setting up and safe use of the spindle moulder, to include the selection of cutter blocks and suitable guarding techniques. During the course, Peter will assist and guide students, and he will endeavour to help with any particular problems you have been encountering with your own machines. Impartial advice will be given on the buying of machines and tooling. What will I achieve? This course will give you a thorough grounding in the safe and practical use of wood machines and tool selection, allowing you to make the most of your investment in your machines. You will learn how to save time, working accurately and with confidence. You will also come away with an extensive manual, written by Peter, on the Safe Use of Woodworking Machines and Setting up of Guards. This course is suitable for Beginners: Intermediate: Advanced: Course Content Induction and Welcome to the School Introduction to Wood Machining o Safe systems of work and ACoP in the working environment
