» Facing the Smart Future «Big Data Smart Products, Production Processes and Services Call for Partners: Consortium Project Our Expert Network:
Smart Products, Production Processes and Services Motivation Digitalization, including the integration of networking capabilities into physical products, is no longer just affecting the consumer electronics industry. Terms like»internet of Things«,»Industrie 4.0«, or»smart Production«are just examples for the diversity of buzzwords that are used. But what do these buzzwords mean for companies, particularly regarding their product portfolio, production processes and offered services? Various industries and markets have a high potential for products, production processes and services getting smarter. What will be the leading application that will drive smart technologies in particular segments? Which markets and applications will be the next to profit from or potentially be disrupted by smart products, services or production technologies? What possibilities will be created by using or generating»smart data«and how to know what will be the right data? In cooperation with the most relevant players, this consortium project aspires to create economic and technological transparency and to explore and analyze market and technology trends as well as possible game-changing business model shifts. Furthermore, we aim to promote valuable exchange and networking between the most relevant international industry partners in the fields of smart products, services and production. In order to achieve these goals, we are promoting a consortium project entitled»facing the Smart Future: Smart Products, Production Processes & Services«. KEX Knowledge Exchange and its research partners have already conducted several projects concerning this topic with the participation of more than 60 leading companies from different industries. Due to the high demand of companies entering the digitalization domain but also companies which need to validate their existing roadmaps, a third round with a further consortium will start in July
Partners of former Smart Future Consortium Projects Mahr Opel T-Systems Toyota Miele OSRAM Vorwerk Thyssen Krupp Harting ZTE Audi Hilti Busch-Jaeger Brose MR euodata Daimler 3M More than 60 previous Consortium Partners* Alfred Kärcher LG Freudenberg Homag Hitachi *all mentioned companies are partners of a Smart Future consortium project hosted by KEX AG and the research partners 3
Focus and Objectives Main Focus As a consortium partner you will be in charge of steering the project focus with the other industrial partners by selecting smart focus applications, solutions and key questions to be evaluated. Specifically, the project covers the detection and technological and economic evaluation of mature and new smart applications and solutions which should be taken into account to improve production processes and products. On the one hand, the project addresses industrial partners already working with or planning to implement smart solutions in the context of smart products, production processes and services. On the other hand, it enables technology providers to get to know their future markets and key application fields. Thus, the project forms a community covering all relevant elements of the smart value chain. Objectives In our project we aim to create a deep level of transparency with regard to: the future potential of smart products, production processes and services a global scan for mature and new smart solutions in the industrial and research domain a potential technological implementation of the selected smart solutions an economic evaluation focusing on implementation costs, added value and hidden values based on e.g. data analytics new services and business model potential best practice implementation outside the consortium 4
Market / Application What game-changing new services become feasible by the evaluated solutions & technologies? Is it possible to implement new business models? Smart Services Which»smart«functionalities will differentiate my products? How can connected products lead to after-sales revenues and improved product life-cycle management? Smart Products Smart Production Processes Project Stages: Stage 3 Stage 1 Stage 2 Which potential does smart manufacturing offer in different industries? How can the quality and cost efficiency be improved? Technology / Enabler Which sensors can be integrated into mass production at competitive prices? How can collected data be leveraged for added customer value? How can augmented reality be used to improve data recognition and utilization? Sensors & Actuators Data Analytics & Management Which data access platforms and analysis technologies are important? How can big data be analyzed and used to maximize the outcome? Protocols & Networks Which standards and protocols will become ubiquitous? How can heterogeneous autonomous devices securely interact to address market demands? Exemplary key questions to be answered by the project. The consortium partners decide on the final questions. 5
Partners and Markets in Focus Networking with cross-industrial Players and Experts The well known research partners like the Fraunhofer IPT, PEM or WZL of RWTH University will share their deep experience in the context of digitalization and other smart applications and leverage the pooled expertise in the consortium. Furthermore, we are building an expert network that enables knowledge exchange and information generation across value creation stages and business sectors. In other words, we are bringing together all experts and decision makers involved with smart products, services and production. Benefit from the opportunities provided by our network and determine which innovations will soon be cutting edge in the market! Hardware Suppliers Smart Data Solution Suppliers System Integrators of Smart Products, Production or Services Users Software/ Platform Suppliers 6 Addressed consortial partners in the project
Markets Smart products, production processes and services have already been established in specific markets, especially in the consumer electronics and logistics segments, but will also have an extensive effect in various other industry sectors. In this consortium project we will focus on the following markets: (e)mobility & Transportation Smart Home & Appliances Electronics Medical & Healthcare Transport & Logistics Energy & Storage Consumer Engineering & Manufacturing New Economy 7
