4 Installation Instructions INSTALLATION WARNING Before beginning any service work turn off the PTO, set the parking brake, turn off the ignition, and disconnect the spark plug wire(s). NOTE: Discharge side is referred to as right-hand side. Left-hand side is opposite the discharge side. NOTE: Install an carriage bolts from inside of the deck with lockwashers and nuts on the outside of the deck. NOTE: Centerpunch all holes before drilling. It may be easier to drill 1/8 pilot holes before drilling holes. NOTE: Later model 38 mower decks have 5 pre-drilled (knockout) mounting holes for mulcher kit installation. Use a punch to knock out metal from hole locations. All 34 mower decks have pre-drilled holes. Disregard hole drilling instructions (steps 4,6-8) if your deck has predrilled holes. 1. Remove the mower from the tractor. Turn the mower deck upside down for baffle installation. 2. Attach the discharge baffle (B) at the front two hole locations with two carriage bolts (C), lockwashers (D) and nuts (E). 3. Secure the discharge baffle against the stone guard with clamps or vise-grip pliers. Make sure that the baffle is tight against underside of deck. Mark location of the rear hole. Remove the baffle from the stone guard and deck. 4. Centerpunch and drill an 11/32 hole on the inside rear surface of the deck. 5. See figure 2. Clamp mulching baffle (A) to the inside front surface of deck so that the right-hand holes (B) line up vertically with existing deck holes. Mark location of the two holes (C) to be drilled in the underside of the deck (at baffle studs). Remove baffle. 6. Centerpunch and drill two 11/32 holes on the under side surface of the deck. 34 & 38 Mulching Mower Kit 7. Reposition baffle in the deck (with studs in two drilled holes) and mark the locations of the center and left hand holes (D, figure 2) to be drilled on the inside front surface of deck. 8. Centerpunch and drill two 11/32 holes on the inside front surface of the deck. Alternate drilling method for left-hand hole: To locate hole on outer surface of deck, measure 3/4 from edge of baffle and 1-3/4 down from edge of deck (2-1/4 down from edge of baffle) and centerpunch hole. Drill a small 1/8 pilot hole from the outside. Check the center of drilled hole alignment with the baffle hole. Adjust center of hole as necessary and drill 11/32 hole. 9. Attach the discharge baffle (B) at the rear hole and secure with carriage bolt (C), lockwasher (D) and nut (E). Leave hardware loose. 10. Position the discharge baffle (B) between the mulching baffle (A) and the deck at the front hole locations as shown in figures 1 and 2. Secure with four carriage bolts (C), lockwashers (D) and nuts (E). Leave hard ware loose. 11. Turn deck over and secure baffle studs with two lock washers (D) and nuts (E). NOTE: The mower levelling rod may have to be disconnected to tighten the right-hand hardware. 12. Tighten all hardware snug. Turn deck upside down, rotate blades and check for blade clearance. Holes in deck can be filed to reposition baffle to allow for blade clearance. Loosen hardware and reposition as required. 13. Securely tighten all hardware. 14. Turn mower deck over and reinstall mower to the tractor. 15. Read the enclosed Mulch It booklet before cutting grass. FOR FALL LEAF SHREDDING Order the optional Leaf Shredding,Kit, part no Attach the leaf shredders (F) to the inside of the discharge baffle and secure with nylock nuts (G). Remove the leaf shredders for grass mulching operation. 2

Turn the mower deck upside down for baffle installation. 2. Position the discharge baffle (D) against the opening in the deck as shown in figure 2. Clamp the baffle at the stone guard (A) so that contour of the baffle fits tightly against the bottom of the deck. Mark the rear hole location to be drilled. 3. Remove the baffle (D) and drill a 11/32 hole at the rear location. Remove any weld buildup from around the baffle location. 4. Attach the discharge baffle (D) at rear hole and secure with carriage bolt (E), lockwasher (F) and nut (G). Tighten hard ware snug so the baffle is drawn against deck. 5. Mark the two front hole locations to be drilled. Baffle can be left in place. Drill two 11/32 holes and secure baffle with two carriage bolts (E), lockwashers (F) and nuts (G). Tighten hardware snug. 6. Position the right front baffle (B) flush against the discharge baffle (D) and clamp securely in place. Mark the two hole locations to be drilled in the underside of the mower deck. Remove right front baffle (B), centerpunch and drill two 11/32 holes. 7. Secure the right front baffle (B) to top of deck with lockwashers (F) and nuts (G). Secure the right front baffle (B) to the discharge baffle (D) with carriage bolt (E) lockwasher (F) and nut (G). Tighten hardware snug. 44 & 50 Mulching Mower Kit 8 Mark the four hole locations to be drilled in front surface of deck. Centerpunch and drill four 11/32 holes. NOTE: On the 44 deck, two holes must be drilled from the front surface of deck due to baffle location. NOTE: In steps 9 & 13, bottom deflector holes should be used for low-to-medium cutting heights. If mowing often at higher cutting heights and grass clippings are discharged from front of deck raise deflector by reinstalling left and right rubber defectors at top hole locations. 9. Position the rubber deflector (C) between the baffle and mower deck. Align the bottom holes of deflector with the front baffle holes and secure the right front baffle (B) and deflector (C) with four carriage bolts (E), lockwashers (F) and nuts (G). 10. Position the left front baffle (A) up against the right front baffle (B) and clamp securely. Mark the hole location to be drilled in the underside of the mower deck. Remove baffle, then centerpunch and drill an11/32 hole. 11. Secure the left front baffle (A) to top of deck with lockwasher (F) and nut (G). 12. Mark the five hole locations to be drilled in front surface of deck. Centerpunch and drill five 11/32 holes. Note that one hole must be drilled from the front surface of deck due to baffle weldment. 13. Position the rubber deflector (C) between the baffle and mower deck. Align the bottom holes of deflector with the front baffle holes. Secure the baffle (B) and deflector (C) with four carriage bolts (E), lockwashers (F) and nuts (G) Mower Only - Position the rear mower lip (J, figure 1 or C, figure 2) against the mower deck as shown in figure 2. Mark location of two 11/32 holes to be drilled. Remove lip then centerpunch and drill holes. Secure lip with two carriage bolts (E), lockwashers (F) and nuts (G). 15. With hardware snug, rotate blades and check for blade clearance. If adjustment is required, square holes in baffle are slightly oversize to allow for positioning of baffle in deck opening. Loosen hardware and reposition as required. 16. Securely tighten all hardware. 17. Turn mower deck over and reinstall mower to the tractor. 18. Read the enclosed Mulch It booklet before cutting grass. FOR FALL LEAF SHREDDING Order the optional Leaf Shredding Kit, part no Attach the leaf shredders (H) to the inside of the discharge baffle and secure with nylock nuts (I).
