It is recommended to use a Tungsten Carbide (Hard Metal) drill set because HM drills will last longer and stay sharper than normal ones. Removal line is mandatory (extra long). Micro is only available with the 41AW015 receiver. Important information about the shell for Micro CIC: Available in 2 colours: transparent blue for left / transparent red for right. Shell ID is located on the outer surface of the canal tip and is only 0.3 mm in height. Never lacquer inside of the shell. Shell wall thickness is only 0.4 mm. Shell material contains ceramic particles (HDC). It is highly recommended to use an extraction (suction) system when performing any grinding work on micro CIC shell and faceplate.
3 Title: Work Instruction Micro CIC Assembly Page: 3 / 13 2 Shell Preparation Use a 320 grit sandpaper (or with a finer grit) to remove the supports from the shell edge, and make it even and planer. Check for the flatness around the shell edge by testing either with a blank faceplate or flat surface. Sandpaper Jam Hansaton Hansaton Jam For Micro CIC the shell ID is located on the outside of the shell. Carefully grind off the shell ID with very low rotating speed (i.e. maximum 5000 rpm). The height of shell ID is only 0.3mm, do not grind off too much or too deep at one time. The shell wall thickness is only 0.4mm, so be very careful not to remove too much material. Drill When sanding the shell surface use low rotating speed (i.e. maximum rpm)
4 Title: Work Instruction Micro CIC Assembly Page: 4 / 13 Sand and smooth the whole shell surface before assembly. This will protect the electronics, especially the receiver from strong vibrations later at the cut and trim step. Sandpaper Use 320 grit sandpaper. Be careful not to sand directly on the serial number engraving. Hansaton Jam Drill a hole for the receiver tube according to the work order. Always use a sharp drill or bur! Using a blunt drill may cause the shell to crack or brake completely. Depending on the shell size the typical wax systems used are cstop, Cerustop, Wax Spring or Extended tube only. Ball burr Blow out all the dust and clean inside the shell with a cleaning tip and isopropanol. Now the shell is ready for assembly. Cleaning Tip Isopropanol Never grind or remove the material from inside the shell!! Never lacquer inside of the micro CIC shell!! Ball burr 2.1 Mounting microphone DCC Shell contour and Microphone sound bore: Option for Group Companies using DCC Refer to PAI-0378-H Digital Cut Process Instruction You can cut the contour and microphone hole directly with DCC. The microphone hole will use the blue color. The contour cutting will use the cyan color. Please calibrate the blue and cyan colors in the VersaLaser once a week.
5 Title: Work Instruction Micro CIC Assembly Page: 5 / 13 Please note, different power settings are needed to cut the Grilon faceplates used for micro CIC. After DCC, the microphone hole is to be finished by hand. Use a drill or rose head burr to increase the microphone hole diameter to 1.0 mm. Ball burr Manual Microphone Sound Bore Drilling Carefully lift the components and remove adhesive stickers. Always refer to the RSM print out with regard to component placement and faceplate layout. Mark the position for the microphone hole on the faceplate according to RSM print out.
6 Title: Work Instruction Micro CIC Assembly Page: 6 / 13 Drill a pilot hole first at the marked position using drill bit 0.8 mm Carefully drill the final microphone hole with a 1.0 mm drill or rose head burr. Check the quality of the hole under a microscope. Ball burr Cut away any loose plastic from around the microphone hole on both sides of the faceplate with a sharp razor blade. Razor Blade Insert the microphone into the hole in the faceplate with the wires facing the shell Refer to the RSM print out with regard to the angle of the microphone. Proper angle of the microphone is critical to allow the device to close properly. Remove the battery door before gluing the microphone. Using the dosing tool, apply glue between the front of the microphone and the faceplate, and then around the microphone. This will secure the microphone position in the faceplate and ensure proper seal. Let it dry. 420 Loctite Dosing Tool Make sure the glue does not flow onto the battery hinge. This would damage the faceplate.
7 Title: Work Instruction Micro CIC Assembly Page: 7 / Receiver Preparation Place mic tubing over the receiver spout. Cut mic tubing flush with receiver sound spout. Install receiver tube over mic tube on receiver sound spout and gluit using dosing tool 420 Loctite Dosing Tool Install the suspension and inspect dressed receiever 3 Closing Insert 10 battery into the faceplate Insert the receiver tube into the sound bore and gently pull the receiver into the shell. Position the receiver and the hybrid in the shell according to RSM print out. Carefully position the microphone in the shell and pack the litzwires Battery Microphone can break if the shell is forced down on the faceplate. Temporarily close the shell and perform a listening check. Stethoclip
8 Title: Work Instruction Micro CIC Assembly Page: 8 / 13 When you can close the micro CIC without any internal feedback, glue the faceplate to shell. 420 Loctite Dosing Tool Trim the receiver tube and perform a listening check. Stethoclip Remove the battery door using ITE extraction tool. Check and tidy all the litzwires in the shell. Cut a small piece of adhesive tape and cover all the components and litzwires inside the shell. Medical Tape

Stethoclip Do not glue receiver tube Microphone can break if the shell is forced down on the faceplate. 4 Cutting and trimming/finishing Option for Group Companies using DCC. When the device is closed and glued, push the device from the faceplate side to separate it from the rest of the faceplate. Refer to PAI-0378-H Digital Cut Process Instruction It is recommended to cut and trim the faceplate using a microscope or magnifier to ensure the faceplate matches the shell contour. Cut, trim and sand the device with medium rotating speed (i.e. maximum rpm). Use 320 grit sandpaper Cut the faceplate. Drill Cutting Tool
10 Title: Work Instruction Micro CIC Assembly Page: 10 / 13 Trim the faceplate Grinding Tool Be careful not to round the faceplate too much. Pay special attention around the microphone sound port. Jam Hansaton Contour the faceplate Sandpaper Do not sand the shell. The shell should have already been sanded before closing. Perform a listening check. Trim the length of the receiver tube to 10 mm, or less. Stethoclip Ensure that there will be adequate space for the bushing in the receiver tube after the tube is cut flush with the shell tip. This can be done by inserting a needle (pink tip) to the receiver tube. Feel that the needle tip touches the spout of the receiver. Remove the needle carefully without disturbing the tube. Determine that the needle was inserted approximately 1.5 mm (1.2 mm minimum) into the shell. If the distance is less than 1.2 mm, adjust the position of the receiver, check the distance, and perform a listening check again to ensure there is no audible feedback. Glue the receiever tube using the dosing tool 420 Loctite Make sure the glue is fresh and dosing tool is clean Dosing Tool
11 Title: Work Instruction Micro CIC Assembly Page: 11 / 13 Cut the receiver tube or finish the tube according to ordered wax system. Razor Blade Use a cone connector (olive) to connect a stethoclip. Cover the venting exit well with blue tack. Perform the listening check again. Stethoclip The removal line should be mounted in the faceplate in accordance with the RSM print out. (It is possible to mount the removal line in either the faceplate or into the shell). 420 Loctite Ensure the glue is fresh and dosing tool and micro CIC shell are clean. Allow at least 5 minutes for the glue to dry before testing the removal line with the tensile tester. Dosing Tool Use Directional Port Cover 420 If there is enough space, use the entire cover. Do not position the cover too close to the battery door! Apply a small amount of glue around the microphone cover with a dosing tool. Loctite Dosing Tool Ensure that the glue is fresh and dosing tool is clean. If the space is inadequate, trim the cover with a razor blade and use only a portion of it. Scalpel
12 Title: Work Instruction Micro CIC Assembly Page: 12 / 13 Lacquer micro CIC Tool Lacquering Hard Lacquer 5 Quality Control Check The standard quality control tests must be performed, including: Pro&Go test, a visual inspection and a listening inspection. See PAI-0282-H Visual and Listening Check In addition to the standard quality control inspection, it is required to perform a tensile strength test of the removal line. Use the Tensile Tester as an additional quality check of the retaining strength of the removal line. Tensile Tester (600 g weight). Slide the removal line into the guide slot and all the way to the center of the tester. Hold the shell only and lift the tensile tester off the work bench. Testing time +/~ 3sec, distance to table +/- 2 cm.

Check if the finished device is lacquered well (no lacquer in receiver, no bubbles, evenly lacquered and smooth surface).
