The depth also allows you to cut the panel in half and fit to a wall unit (mid height only). Cutting the panel in half will give you a left hand and a right hand wall panel, one for each side of a run/unit. 582 Note; the plinth will need to be mitred and returned to the wall. 44 22 END CLADDINGS External Corner Post Part: MEP Dimensions: 717x53x53mm The external corner post is designed to be used at the end of a run, or on the corners of an island unit. The diagrams below show different island situations and the components required. The configurations allow for an approx 4mm gap (varied), so they resemble working doors or pan drawers. Part MEP comes with a fixed packer to suit a left hand corner. To make this into a right hand corner (for the other side of the island), simply unscrew the packer, and drill to the other upright. 600 Wide Island To clad the end of a 600 island unit, use 2 External Corner Posts (Part MEP), and fit a 715x496mm door (Part 16) between BASE UNIT (Doors on either side) 496 Packer repositioned Standard part MEP Wide Island To clad the end of a 1200 island unit, use 2 External Corner Posts (Part MEP), and fit a 715x256mm door (Part 14R) and 2 off 715x396mm doors (Part 15). Fit 2 spacers where the doors meet in the middle (this can be from scrap/off-cut). 49 EXTRACTOR CANOPIES Step by Step Instructions: How To Fit An Extractor Fascia Cut the cheeks of the extractor to the required width (between mm). The carcass can also be screwed to the baseboard if required.(i.e. if top fixing is not practical) 2 2 Screwing through the cornice into the top of the canopy provides extra support Cut the baseboard to length & cut out the hole for the extractor as per the manufacturers recommendation Offer the baseboard up to the canopy & rest on the cornice as shown. Level the baseboard & mark on the wall the position for the batten (not supplied). Remove baseboard & fix batten to the wall. Screw the baseboard to the batten & fit extractor. For canopies without the cornice, a fixing batten is fitted to the canopy. 2. Screw the carcass into the side of the canopy. Alternative Fixing Method: Alternative wood batten or KD fitting (screw the batten to the fascia, then the batten & fascia to the carcass) Wooden battens or plastic KD blocks can be screwed to the outer edges of the canopy. The canopy can then be fixed from the inside to the carcasses. Fitting A 600mm Wide Canopy, Parts EX6 Standard fitting: The canopy should be fitted in line with the doors. The canopy overhangs each carcass by 1mm Alternative fitting: Use two pieces of plinth to create a breakfront & bring the canopy forward by 19mm. Fitting A Canopy In A Corner Situation WALL MFC BASEBOARD The baseboard for a corner will look like this. 1 2 To fit a canopy in a corner situation you need to make a pair of angled fillers as shown or cut the cheeks of the canopy at the required angle. (For canopies with cheeks). A piece of MFC, cut square to the maximum dimensions required should then be used as a baseboard. The baseboard supplied with the canopy can be used as a stencil for cutting the canopy section. Once cut the baseboard will look something like that shown below for the situation shown. (As an alternative method to make up the baseboard to the wall, plinth or another suitable material MFC can be added to the back of the supplied baseboard. It is recommended that the baseboard supplied is oversized and cut to size on site. The boxed canopies can also be fitted in a similar manner & pilasters, spacers & wall end panels can be used next to the canopy if required. WALL 49

52 CURVED ELEMENTS Curved Plinths Part: CVP and CPL Dimensions: 2440x150 CVP Curved Veneer Plinth The CVP is made from MDF with veneer on one face. It has several grooves cut into the back so it can be bent round to the desired shape CPL Curved Plinth The CPL is made from MDF wrapped in foil. It has several grooves cut into the back so it can be bent to the desired shape To fit the CVP/CPL you use the same method as fixing a standard plinth. However you can only secure it to the legs in the straight sections of the plinth. Cabinet Position The CVP and CPL are designed to curve concentrically to the 14CD/14CFD door. There is a 350mm straight section at one end to return to the wall (it is oversized to allow for uneven walls), then the curved section, and a longer straight section for the run. When using the CVP in an island situation you will need to join two CVP s together. Cut the shorter length down 50mm from the first seration, as shown in the diagram. Then use some of the offcut to brace the two CVP s together screwing through in four locations. TIP CVP s and CPL s are designed to minimise the joints around one curved unit. Where you have two curved units next to one another, for instance on an island unit, it is possible to cut further serations in a CVP. Additional serations allow you to curve a plinth (part CVP/CPL) concentrically around both curved doors, giving a seamless finish. Brampton and Marlow Curve Door Part: 14CDS Curved Door Dimensions: 715x318x318mm Specification for BRAMPTON & MARLOW: 14CDS is constructed from MDF for the stiles, with laminated MDF for the curved rails and panel. The 430mm side of the carcass should be used going accross the width of the island unit. 59 CURVED ELEMENTS Fitting Part CBP To fit the curved back panel; cut 2 battons the same height as the internal cabinet (684mm). Screw the battons onto the back of the panel (as shown in the diagram) about 30mm from the edge, do this to both panels. Loosely position the panels onto the cabinet. The battons enable adjustment (horizontally), and because of the construction of the carcass, the panels can move in and out to adjust the width of the gaps. Once the panels are in place, pilot drill through the top and base panel of the carcass into the batton, then secure with a screw. Note; make sure the batton is thick enough to allow adjustment and to accept a screw. For example 2x2 timber. External Curved Plinth Part: OCP Dimensions: 150x895x19mm OCP Curved Plinth is constructed from laminated MDF. They have a painted melamine back and a painted face. This comes as two pieces, which are both rigid/fixed plinths. They are both oversized so will need cutting down to fit the exact unit size. 59

By using this filler piece the curved drawer fronts can be fitted to standard carcasses. For the Opus drawer fronts we reccommend extending the drawer box base and cutting it to suit the shape of the Curved Drawer Front. Specification for OPUS GLOSS (colours) and OPUS MATT WHITE The curved drawer fronts are constructed from laminated MDF, it has a painted melamine back and painted high gloss face. Specification for ALTO The curved drawer fronts are constructed from laminated MDF, it has a painted melamine back and painted face. 2 = = 1 Trim 10mm from the front of the MFC. Trim equal amounts from each end of the curved filler piece. NOTE: The filler piece should be cut to the width of the MFC as seen when the draw box is fitted i.e. from the inside edges of the curves on a Blum tandem box. 3 4 Screw the curved filler to the MFC base with the lip of the filler piece to the top.the drawer front can be fitted in the usual manner. The curved drawer front can now be fitted in the usual manner. 75 134 Our In-frame System The in-frame system is designed for use with standard 18mm MFC cabinets. Doors and drawer fronts are supplied as sets and each set is supplied with a frame. This frame is designed to be attached onto the face of a cabinet. The door is then hinged to the carcass using a special cranked hinge. The frame, which is 37mm wide, is oversized by 18mm in height so that the top of the bottom rail sits flush with the base of the cabinet. This provides easy access to the cupboard. Drawer boxes can be installed with either Tandemboxes or wooden drawer boxes. A range of fixed frame door sets are available to accomadate integrated appliances and wirework. 1 Cabinet Side 37 The diagram shows a 738mm high frame fitted to a 720mm high carcass. As the frame is 37mm wide the top of the bottom rail actually sits 1mm higher than the base of the carcass. However with material and manufacturing tolerences this should finish flush. Frames The frames are pre-drilled to suit 3.5x15mm panhead screws, please see the illustration opposite for positions. The frames are manufactured to finish exact size, e.g. 600mm wide to suit a 600mm wide carcass. It is very important the carcasses are made to this exact size and are perfectly square. To fit, simply align the outside edges of the frame to the carcass and fix using frame fixing brackets in the pre-drilled location holes. Frame Fixing Bracket Part Number: FFB Box Quantity: 100 Secure to frame through slotted hole Please note that the frame is designed to extend 18mm past the bottom of the carcass, so that the bottom shelf of the carcass fits flush with the top of the bottom rail. The frame for the corner door sets is supplied unassembled with dowel fixings. Note: Care should be taken when positioning hinges to avoid clashing with brackets. Secure to carcass The fixing bracket attaches the frame to the carcass. We recommend you firstly screw the brackets onto the frame and then once located into position, screw into the carcass sides. Both screws should be 3.5x15mm panhead screws Door Stop Plates Part Number: DSP Box Quantity: Frame showing fixing hole positions for 918mm high frames and less. Taller frames contain additional screw holes. 9 In-frame doors require door stop plates to be fitted onto the opposite side to the hinges. We recommend fitting one stop plate per door, fixed using 3.5x15mm roundhead screws. If the door is greater than 918mm high you should fit two door stop plates. We recommend fitting a standard rubber door buffer onto the stop plate, to reduce the noise and impact when shutting the door. Magnetic Catch Part Number: MC Box Quantity: 1 In-frame doors fitted with the Interleaved Fineal Butt Hinge ( H3) or a traditional Butt Hinge, will need a Magnetic Catch to hold the door shut. The Magnetic Catch is fitted into the back of the door, and when shut will connect to Door Stop Plate. To fit the Magnetic Catch you drill a 12mm diameter hole and push fit the magnet in place. 75

76 Hinges Concealed Hinges In-frame doors are mounted on concealed 18mm cranked sprung hinges with an extra wide cruciform mounting plate. As the illustration shows below, the mounting plate is fixed behind the frame onto the cabinet side panel. The mounting plate needs to be fitted 37mm in from the front edge of the carcass. The measurements supplied are for the Blum hinge, reference: 71M2750. For all other hinge types please check fitting details with the manufacturer. When drilling the door for hinges, we recommend drilling 62mm from the top and bottom edge of the door. This measurement is to the hole centres. Please note with integrated (fixed frame) door sets can be fitted with standard hinges as per a lay-on door Concealed Hinge BLUM Part; 71B3750 (inc Soft Close) Door Buffer Door Stop Plate Mounting Plate BLUM Part; 175H Interleaved Butt Hinges For a more traditional look the Interleaved Butt Hinge can be fitted, part H3. With the Interleaved Butt Hinge you do not need to notch out any component, it simply screws to the door and frame, with elongated holes to allow for adjustment. Please see both diagrams for fitting. Please note the Interleaved Butt hinge will not fit with integrated (fixed frame) doors. A standard lay on door hinge should be used. Interleaved Butt Hinge Part; H3 Magnetic Catch Part; MC Door Stop Plate Part; DSP The Door Stop Plate can be fitted on the stile of the frame, the top rail or bottom rail opposite the hinge. This plate may need to be adjusted to line up with the Magnetic Catch in the door. Frame Door Stile Holes marked 1-4 are elongated to allow for verticle and horizontal adjustment. The other holes are for final fix when the door is in position Traditional Butt Hinges Traditional Butt hinges can be fitted to this inframe system. Depending on the type of butt hinge, you may need to notch out part of the door, please check the manufacturers fittings instructions. 76

77 Tandembox System The drawer runner must be spaced out from the side of the cabinet so it does not conflict with the frame. There are two ways to do this which are shown in the diagram below. 79 Integrated Doors (Fixed Frame) In-Frame Integrated Doors (Fixed Frame) Integrated doors are constructed as one piece components, whereby the door and frame open as one. Fixed frame doors are used with integrated appliances and wirework. They maintain the appearance of an in-frame door whilst allowing full access to the integrated appliance or wirework in the carcass behind. Overall the doors are reduced by 1.5mm on all edges, allowing it to clear, without clashing with the adjacent frames when opening. To view the application of these doors please see the door matrix on page 98. This shows which doors fit with the various integrated appliances available. Note; Standard hinges (for lay-on doors) are to be used when fitting integrated doors, or see appliance or wirework manufacture fitting instructions. When fitting a dishwasher, the plinth may need to be notched out so the door can fully open. Please check the appliance manufacturers specification. Trimmers (Trimmable and Non Trimmable) Part; SF1360 Under Oven Filler (Non Trimmable), 138x600 This filler is designed to fit under a single oven, either on a base or tower situation. Part; SF1759 Integrated Appliance Drawer/Filler (Non Trimmable), 176x597mm This filler is designed to fit in tall wall larders and fridge/freezer housings. Note; Part 97C is only available in painted oak finishes. Part 97C To secure the pelmet screw through the top of the cornice into the cabinet in at least 3 locations, as shown. The holes must be pilot drilled first, and care must be taken when screwing into the cornice due to the laminations. Frame Curved Cabinet side Curved Light Pelmet Part: 98C Dimensions: 50x320x320mm Part 98C is constructed from laminated wooden strips and then over veneered, this matches to part 98. Note; Part 98C is available in Natural Oak, Sanded Oak and all painted oak finishes. Part 98C To secure screw through the back of the pelmet into the back of frame, as shown in diagram. Pilot drill first and secure in 3 locations. Note; Parts 97C and 98C are oversized by 10mm each side, this is to allow for any uneven walls, and when cut down, will provide a clean square cut to join to. Cutting 10mm off either end will make part 97C and 98C fit the exact cabinet size. Curved Cornice Part: CDCP Dimensions: 28x335x335mm Part CDCP is constructed from chipboard with veneer top and bottom and a timber front edge. The part CDCP matches the straight cornice/pelmet, part PEL. The part CDCP is only to be used as a cornice, and cannot be fitted as a pelmet, because of the overhanging frame. Use the part 98C for the pelmet (available in both Natural and Painted finishes). Note; The CDCP is designed to be fitted overhanging the front of the frame by 5mm. Similarly to the above curved components it is oversized (either side), this is to allow for any uneven walls, and when cut down, will provide a clean square cut to join to. Concave Curved Cornice and Light Pelmet There are Concave versions of the above Cornice and Light Pelmet, these are fitted to the cabinet in the same way. Part DS12110 The frame size is 1210x1000mm and therefore will fit the exact size of part VC. Tip; To make the base of the cabinet fit flush with the top of the bottom rail, an extra base panel can be cut and put into the base of the cabinet. Part DD65R or DD65S The sides of the VC can either be cladded with part DD65R with the radius profile front edge, or the DD65S with the square front edge. One panel can be cut in half to clad each side. The panels are available in Natural Oak, Sanded Oak and Painted Oak finishes. Part LB Part LB comes fully assembled, the legs come with our part PEL which is fitted to the top to provide a flat base for the cabinet to sit onto. Each leg has an adjustable foot. 85 In-Frame Accessories Ancillary Chest Part: AC710 Dimensions: 738x1000mm The ancillart chest consists of 3 drawer fronts, 2 pan drawers/doors and the frame. The drawer boxes and cabinet are not included. The cabinet drawer heights are the same as a standard in-frame 3 Drawer Set. The cabinet does need to be modified for the 3 drawer fronts. To do this an extra horizontal shelf will need to be added under the drawer fronts. This will allow the fixing of 2 uprights which you can mount the runners on to. The uprights should be made from 2 skins of 18mm carcass material (36mm) which will be the correct width to sit behind the frame and mount the runners to. The top 3 drawer boxes will also need to be modified. Only Available in Tetbury Tray Set Part: TR720 The Tray Set comes as a rigid item, complete with an MFC carcass. The unit is ready assembled with shelves and runners fixed in position, for a quick and easy installation. 88 In-Frame Accessories Curved Pilasters Part TP09, 910x50x50 Part TP13, 1350x50x50 Part TP21, 2150x50x50 Fitting and Positioning of Curved Pilasters When fitting the curved pilaster in a wall situation (part TP09 or TP13), the square section must be fitted at the top. It is recommended that the square section is cut down, to leave a 37mm flat/square section, see below diagrams. This provides a right angle corner to mitre the cornice around. Note; there is no curved cornice section for this. When fitting a pelmet the pilaster should overhang and the pelmet should run into it. To fit an end panel, you must use packers to space the panel away from the cabinet so it is flush with the pilaster. Packer When fitting the curved pilaster (part TP09) in a base situation, the square section should be on the floor. The curved section of the pilaster will be at the top, which means the worktop will need to be cut to suit. 89 Decorative Fascia Plinth Part: DFP6, 1600x150x19mm Part: DFP8, 1800x150x19mm Part: DFP2, 2000x150x19mm The Decorative Fascia Plinth is designed to fit a stand alone dresser unit, or a small run of units. The plinth has a rebate (see diagram) and attaches onto the face of the frame. It must be fitted inbetween two pilasters or two end panels. Note; it will not work with integrated door sets. In-Frame Accessories 1600 / 1800 / mm Pilaster Cabinet Side Frame with overhang Decorative Plinth **Keku Clip **The Keku Clip is supplied with the Decorative Fascia Plinth. The clip is in two parts, one is fixed to the Plinth, the other fixed to the Pilaster/End panel. The Plinth Fascia then clips into place, it is very secure but not a permanent fixing. *6 *The Decorative Plinth Fascia must be fitted between two 72mm Pilasters or End Panels. The Pilaster or Panels must be positioned 18mm forward of the frame, to allow the Decorative Plinth Fascia to run into. *6 A standard Plinth (part VP) will need to be fitted behind the Decorative Fascia Plinth. 90 300 Base Carcass 60 In-Frame Corner Situations Corner Door Sets There are two corner door sets available for the in-frame ranges. They work in a similar way to our lay-on doors, hinging one door to the carcass and fixing the two doors together with a bi-fold hinge, as shown in the diagram. The frame is supplied in two pieces which will need to be assembled with dowels (supplied). The frame is attached the same way as a standard frame. A door stop must be fitted on both doors. Note; The top and bottom panel of the carcass must have a square right angle corner to allow the frame to fit. These panels may need to be cut square to allow the frame to fit. For the base situation, fit the corner post (part COP) to the carcass with the blanking panel, leaving the correct aperture for the adjacent frame (500mm in diagram). Then align the adjacent carcass upto the corner post Wall Carcass Wall Carcass 300 For the wall situation, line the edge of a 600mm wide wall unit up with the end of the corner post on the base. Once this is in position, the adjacent 300mm wide carcass can be fitted with a 20mm gap between, see diagram. 99 Product Care: In the production of solid wood and veneered doors, great care is exercised in the selection of material. However, being a living natural product it is not possible, nor do we feel desirable to strive for total uniformity of shading and grain pattern. Our aim is at all times to operate within controlled parameters which recognise that some variation is both acceptable and aesthetically pleasing. When installing a wooden product into a new property or extension we strongly advise the building is first dry, well ventilated and adequetely heated. To prevent heat damage to foil wrapped doors we strongly advise that extractors are always switched on above working hobs. Product Care Guide & Specification In addition, always check that built-in ovens or ranges are factory fitted with heat deflectors and that the oven door is correctly fitted so the heat emissions are minimised. If an appliance does not have heat deflectors we advise these are fitted (See page 91 of Trade Price List, Heat Deflectors). Burbidge will not take responsibility for heat damaged foil wrapped doors if these preventative measures have not been taken. We advise caution against customers positioning kettles and toasters in kitchen locations where the heat or steam they omit, will over a period of time damage foil wrapped and wooden products. Each door has characteristic variations in grain and colour and should be cared for in the same way as any piece of fine furniture. In most cases they should be cleaned with only a slightly damp cloth to help preserve the beauty of the wood. A good quality wax furniture polish can also be applied on occasion to enhance their natural beauty. Guide To Cleaning: Wooden and Foil Wrapped Doors For persistent marks they can be removed by first using a very mild solution of water and household detergent (non abrasive), or sugar soap can be used, which is good for removing grease. Once the mark is removed the area should then be wiped over with a damp soft cloth to remove any excess and then finally dried with a soft, clean cloth. No water should ever be left on any surface of the door for any length of time. On no account must an abrasive or solvent cleaner be used, as they could damage the surface. Glass Doors A non-abrasive window cleaner should be used, if the door is leaded care should be taken using cleaning solutions on the decorative leading. Occasional marks can be removed with a soft damp cloth, warm water and a very mild detergent. Moisture will not harm the surface of these doors but in order to protect the doors never allow water to lie on any surface, always wipe away any spillage immediately. Do not use harsh scowering powders or solvents, as they will damage the surface. Polyurethane Lacquered Doors Occasional marks in most cases, can be removed with a soft damp cloth. More persistent marks can be removed using a solution of 50% water and 50% methylated spirits. Once the mark is removed, the area should be wiped over with a damp cloth to remove any excess and dried with a soft clean cloth. Do not use other solvents or an abrasive cleaner as these could cause permanent damage to the surface. Staining The finishes used on various doors will resist most household chemicals. However damage and discolouration can be caused by some chemicals and strong dyes such as concentrated fruit juices, beetroot juice etc. If spillage occurs, wipe away and rinse immediately, ensure to leave the door dry. Temperature and Humidity: When cooking and washing try to ensure there is adequate ventilation. Dryers, if possible, should be vented to the outside to avoid excessive humidity in the kitchen. Excessive changes in temperature and humidity should be avoided as much as possible. Product Specification: In the production of solid wood and veneered doors, great care is exercised in the selection of material. However, being a living natural product it is not possible, nor do we feel desirable to strive for total uniformity of shading and grain pattern. Our aim is at all times to operate within controlled parameters which recognise that some variation is both acceptable and aesthetically pleasing. Doors constructed from American Black Walnut may feature sections of sap within the timber. In the majority of cases, this will appear on the reverse of the door and is deemed an acceptable feature, in accordance with the door specification. It is possible during the production process that some styles of PVC wrapped doors will bow slightly.
