3 Tournament Formats Registering Tournament registration is available on the PokéSoc website at Gym Tournament (Mono-type) The Gym Tournaments are held at the start of each semester. Battles are conducted in singles format (One Pokémon battles at a time). The tournament will be conducted in the Swiss Tournament style. Depending on your leader board ranking you will be allocated a rank.* * See Gym Challenges for more information on ranks. Points awarded for wins and losses: Points Description Awarded 5 Player wins against a team of a type which the player is weak against. 4 Player wins against a team of a type which the player is neutral against. 3 Player wins against a team of a type which the player is strong against. 2 Player loses against a team of a type which the player is weak against. 1 Player loses against a team of a type which the player is neutral against. 0 Player loses against a team of a type which the player is strong against. 3

4 Swiss Tournament Players will play against opponents with a similar win/loss record. Players are not paired with opponents they have previously played. Players earn: 3 Points per win, 1 per draw and 0 per loss.* The higher the number of points, the higher on the leader board that player will be. * This applies differently to the Gym Tournament. Knockout Tournament If a player loses a match they will be unable to progress any further with the tournament. The more opponents you defeat without losing, the higher your position on the leader board. 4

5 Gym Battles and Challenges Registering You can register for the PokéSoc League at our website: *You will still be able to challenge Gym Leaders, but your points will not count until you are registered. Challenging Gym Leaders You can challenge Gym Leaders at our weekly socials on Fridays 17:00-20:30. For each Gym Leader that you defeat, you will earn points. The number of points earned depends on the rank of the Gym Leader and their overall position in the Gym Tournament. All registered PokéSoc League participants will be put on a leader board. How to Enter the Hall of Fame You must be registered in the current PokéSoc league. You must beat 85% of the Gym Leaders. You must beat all the rank A and B Gym Leaders. 7 General Battle Rules (General Ruleset) The general ruleset applies to all competitive battles at PokéSoc including but not exclusive to: tournaments and gym challenges. Some clauses may not apply, this will be confirmed before the Tournament by the organiser or committee. 1. Game Cards Nintendo 3DS Games currently used for competitive battles (unless otherwise stated): Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon. For all PokéSoc competitive battles your game must be: An official and unaltered version which is either physical or an eshop download. Not affected by any cheats or cheat codes. Updated to the latest version of the software. N.B. This clause does not apply to Pokémon Showdown battles. 2. Game Systems Game systems should be: An official game system within the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 2DS family. Running the official latest version of their operating system. Free from software enhancements such as Homebrew or similar (Nor can this software be stored on the system's SD card). Not connected to any other devices except: headphones, Wi-Fi networks or competitors consoles. Players are responsible for: Providing their own AC adapter. Ensuring their systems have sufficient power. N.B. This clause does not apply to Pokémon Showdown battles. 7

8 3. Pokémon 3.1 Prohibited Pokémon Smogon Uber Pokémon listed at Pokémon that have been enhanced or hacked through external devices. E.g. Pokémon that list that they are From: Nursery Helpers and are contained within a Master Ball or Cherish Ball. 4. Items Gengarite, Kangaskhanite, Lucarionite, Mawilite, Metagrossite and Salamencite are not permitted. 5. Moves Pokémon may only use moves that have been learned through normal gameplay or from an official promotion. Prohibited Moves: Baton Pass, Double Team, Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, Minimize, Sheer Cold and Swagger. 6. Status Conditions Only one Pokémon may be put to sleep on the opposing team at any one time. N.B. This excludes the opponent using moves such as rest. 7. Abilities The abilities Moody and Shadow Tag are not permitted. 8. Play Restrictions Any moveset on any Pokémon that is capable of intentionally causing an endless battle is prohibited. 8

9 Gym Tournament Rules The general ruleset also applies. 1. Pokémon 1.1 Prohibited Pokémon Legendary Pokémon. Mythical Pokémon. Ultra Beasts. Guardian Deities. Running multiple formes of the same Pokémon on a team. More than one Pokémon with the same National Pokédex number on a team. Ash-Greninja and Greninja without Torrent as its primary ability. N.B. When Pokémon have a regional variant, either form may be used. 1.2 Types All Pokémon on a team must share the same type (Monotype). E.g. For a water type team both Toxapex (Poison/Water) and Sharpedo (Water/Dark) would be acceptable. 2. Moves 2.1: Prohibited Moves Acupressure is not permitted. 2.2: Z-Moves Z-Moves are permitted except those which involve Z-Crystals from the prohibited Pokémon list in clause 1.1. Mimikium Z and Kommonium Z are not permitted. Z-Moves cannot be combined with the following moves: Camouflage, Detect, Flash, Kinesis, Lucky Chant, Magnet Rise, Sand Attack, Smokescreen, Acupressure, Metronome. 9

10 3. Mega Evolution Mega Evolutions are permitted. Mega Evolutions with Pokémon from the prohibited Pokémon list in clause 1.1 are not permitted. Further Restrictions: Mega Abomasnow, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Gengar, Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Lucario, Mega Metagross, Mega Salamence and Mega Tyranitar are not permitted. The type of the Mega Evolved Pokémon must be of the same as the mono-type team. 4. Items 4.1 Megastones Abomasite, Charizardite Y, Gengarite, Kangaskhanite, Lucarionite, Mawilite, Metagrossite and Salamencite are not permitted. 5. Abilities 1.1 Prohibited abilities The following abilities are not allowed: Arena Trap, Battle Bond, Drizzle, Drought, Moody, Sand Veil, Sand Stream, Shadow Tag, Snow Cloak and Snow Warning. 6. Pokémon Formes Running multiple formes of the same Pokémon is not permitted. Any Silvally must be holding the drive corresponding to the type of the players' team. 10

11 Gym Challenge Rules The general ruleset also applies. 1. Gym Challengers (Does not apply to Gym Leaders) Challengers may use any Pokémon not listed at Mega Evolution and Z-Moves are permitted unless related to prohibited Pokémon. 12

13 Further Rule Information Infractions of these rules could result in match loss or disqualification. This is decided upon by committee members. Players who use game cards and/or systems that do not follow the rules will not be permitted to join tournaments. The newest rules will always take precedence where there are multiple rulesets.
