1 The Quest for the Golden Cup As citizens of the Kingdom of Aldoria of you have been called forth by your queen, Her Royal Majesty Henna and the king of the adjoining Kingdom of Andromeda, His Royal Highness Patrick to take part in a quest. This is no ordinary quest, it is one of extreme rewards! By retrieving the lost cup, you will gain unimaginable fame, glory and wealth. But alas, with glory and adventure comes equal parts danger! So we will only select a chosen few, to go as quickly as they can and retrieve what was taken from us. We have asked you to join a team of equal minded heroes, who are willing to partake in the greatest feat of our time. Good luck and may you find much success! Quest Rules: 1. Every week a member of the group will be asked to roll a die. They will go that many spaces on the game board to find out what happens next on their adventure. 2. The team will discuss how they will overcome the situation. Knowing each individual heroes strengths and weaknesses will help you with this. You must all agree on what happens with each character, as it will be key in making sure that all your stories match. 3. You will then work on weekly assignments from the point of view of your character. You will always be in contact with group members to ensure that there is consistency in the story. There are a number of choices for you to choose from for that week s assignment. Some assignments are to be done individually and others done as a group.

2 Assignment Choices: You must choose one of the following per week. You can not repeat! 1. Comic strip - individually, you will create a comic strip that depicts your story. You will ensure that the point of view of your character is shown in how they overcome their situation. You must use images, colours and text to showcase your story. 2. Diorama - as a group, construct a diorama (three-dimensional scene which includes models of people, buildings, plants, and animals) of one of the main events of the book. Include a written description of the scene. 3. Short story - individually, you will write a short story on the situation your character is in. You will provide the reader with plenty of detail, excitement and variety in words, and sentences to make your story as adventurous as your character! 4. Newspaper - as a group, you will create a newspaper that showcase what happened to your team for the situation you are in. You must summarize the plot in one article, cover the weather in another, do a feature story on one of the more interesting things that happened in the situation you were in. Include an editorial and a collection of ads that would be pertinent to the story. 5. Skit -as a group, you will perform a skit showcasing what happens to your group for the weekly situation. You will create a script, have props and costumes. Acting and performing are important for this to be successful. 6. Interview- Record an interview with each of the characters in the book you read. Pretend that this character is being interviewed by a magazine or newspaper reporter. You may do this project with a partner, but be sure to write a script before taping. You may choose to do a "live" version of this. 7. Mobile- make a mobile showing pictures, characters and symbols of what happened in that situation. 8. Quest Map - If a journey was involved, draw a map with explanatory notes of significant places and of the actions your group/character did. 9. Scrapbook- Create a scrapbook, that has a collection of drawings, writings, and knickknacks related to what happens in your situation. Include captions describing why/how it is connected. 10.

3 Part B: Situations for the Board Game 1. You stumble upon a leprechaun's pot of gold, and he isn t too happy about it, as one of you has taken some of the gold. He won t let you pass to move on the trail until he gets it back. 2. Your group has just entered the Enchanted Forest, where a group of centaurs trick you into entering a strange and dangerous cave. 3. A group of ogres are in your way along the path. You have no other option and must go through them. You have to find a creative solution to get past them! 4. One of the members of your party hears the song of a siren and can not help but become hypnotized by it, putting the rest of you in danger, by controlling the ship that you are using to cross a narrow sea passage. You must snap them out of it, before you head to the Sea of Doom, where no one survives! 5. A gathering is taking place outside the kingdom that reveals a deep, dark secret that the Queen and King are hiding! You over hear them speaking to the Elven King and Queen and are shocked that the Golden Cup is much more powerful than you ever imagined. A elf scout sees your group spying and you have to stop them from revealing your group to the King and Queen, for fear of punishment. 6. The Bear King and Wolf King in the deep woods are engaged in a war with their armies of warrior bears and wolves, that your group unfortunately stumbles upon. You are caught in the crossfire and have to think of a way to escape unhurt. 7. An evil witch has tricked one of your teammates and has them locked away in her lair. You have to find a way to help them escape. 8. While you were sleeping, a werewolf attacks your group and bites one of your members. You have to reverse the effects of the bite before they also become a werewolf!

4 9. The only way to cross the narrow path to the Isle of Man is to answer the riddle of a sphynx that is the keeper of the bridge! If you do not get the right answer in three tries you will fall to your death! 10. You try to save an innocent young child that has been taken by a Chimerawhich is part-lion, part-goat, part-snake - all monster. 11. You are sleeping in your camp, so close to finding the Golden Cup, when you wake up to the sound of the trees whispering to each other talking about your group! 12. You find a group of unicorns trapped in the woods, if you help them, maybe they will take you closer to the Golden Cup! 13. There is a huge storm brewing, and you find out it is due to a Thunderbird, who has created these storms because he is angry at one of you for disturbing his home. 14. You find a group of dwarves heading down to the mines. If you help them retrieve something they want, they will help you find a quicker way to the cup! 15. Your group falls into a pit of snakes. Help! 16. An angry giant attacks the town you are having lunch in. You must help the townspeople escape his wrath 17. Some pixies take a liking to you and decide to sprinkle some pixie dust on you. Now, how good are you all at learning how to fly? 18. You come upon a house made entirely made of candy, the only problem is, now half your team are in some sort of sleeping spell by the sneaky witch who lives inside! 19. You have lost your way in the woods, and can feel someone following you. You see a young child tell you to follow them to safety. What do you do? 20.You are caught in a severe blizzard and have to find a way to safety before you freeze to death!

5 21. You pass through some strange mist and soon realize you have lost some of your powers. You all need to figure out what happened and reverse its effects as quickly as you can. 22. You come across a mad scientist that captures one of your teammates. He wants to perform tests on them to gain their powers. Help your teammate get out of his lab before he does any damage! 23. The general of the army of Draconas is getting his army ready to attack Aldoria and Andromeda! You must delay them so a message can be sent back to Queen Henna and King Patrick, to be ready for the attack. 24. You are finally on your final task: retrieve the magical cup! How will you take it from the evil King of Draconas, who has his fearsome dragon, Draco, guarding the cup? You must get past the dragon, and return in to its rightful place!

6 Part C: Creating your own superhero (ID Card Criteria) Each student is to create an ID card, on a cue card, highlighting all the personal information of their superhero character. It must contain: 1. A detailed, coloured drawing of their avatar/character. 2. A fictional city in either kingdom of where you re from. 3. Size (in metres, weight), plus hair and eye colour (remember, this is a fictional character so be creative with its looks). 4. Birth year. 5. A point form list of your strengths and vulnerabilities. Must be three each. These strengths and vulnerabilities must be earthly or celestial elements like, fire, water, earth (ground), air, moon, sun, plants, metal, wood, etc. For example, if you re nocturnal, the sun would be a weakness and if you move by day, the moon would be a weakness. Those elements can also be strengths.
