1 INTRODUCTION /GENERAL The CRONOS is an electronic unit capable of performing automatic sales, controlled by time or pulses. The duration or number of pulses vary in terms of the amounts of money received through the insertion of coins or tokens and of the equipment operating characteristics, which can be programmed. The amount of money or time available, depending on the case, can be seen in a four-digit display. The display can also be used to view the total amount charged since the unit was put into operation (accounting). For security reasons, this amount cannot be deleted. Typical applications of the CRONOS are pay television sets, vending machines, game machines and timers for controlling the paid for use of all types of machines and facilities. The units control over machines or facilities is always done through contacts free of electric potential of one or two relays. Both normally open and normally closed contacts are available. The unit can also receive control signals from the outside so it knows, for example, when to begin discounting credit or the availability of a machine to make a sale. These signals can come from potential-free contacts or contacts with direct or alternate potential which control the unit through an optical connection. 2 DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS The CRONOS basically consists of a rectangular metal box which can be mounted on the side of the machine to be controlled. The unit consists of the following components: - A JOFEMAR T-40 selector with a capacity for 32 different coins, which can be programmed with both coin recognition parameters and its own operating parameters. - A power supply transformer. If a 12-volt DC or AC power supply is available, this component is not needed. - An interface card with two pushbuttons used to test the unit and to view the total amount received (accounting). - A vault for coin collection. COD: MNP27M01V03GBV00 (29/01/03) REVISION 0 PAGE 5 OF 28
The selector is mounted on a support with an unjam button, a coin insertion slot and a slot to return rejected coins. All of these are accessible from the outside. Also on the outside there is a 4-digit LED display for displaying credit, time or accounting data, as the case may be. The box or chassis is available in two versions: a front-mounting version, where the display and coin slots are on the door of the unit and a side-mounting version where the display and slots are mounted on the narrow side. The unit's components are also available without the box in kit form to mount on a panel. FRONT AND SIDE-MOUNTING CRONOS CRONOS KIT 3 CONNECTIONS 3.1 Description of connectors The interface card is equipped with various connectors. COD: MNP27M01V03GBV00 (29/01/03) REVISION 0 PAGE 6 OF 28
These connectors are used to: - CON1 and CON3: Control signal connectors. - CON2: Card power supply connectors. - CON4: Selector connector. - CON5 and CON7: Output signal connectors. - CON6: Display connector. - CON8: Connector for an electromechanical counter. 3.2 Power supply The unit can be connected to a conventional 230-V mains power supply through the conductors of the three-colour (brown, blue and yellow/green) cable. In this case, a ground connection should be connected to the screw located at the back of the unit. You can also dispense with the power supply transformer and connect the control card CON2 connector to a 9-volt AC power supply or a 12-volt DC power supply. 3.3 Output circuits There are two output circuits which are electrically and functionally independent of each other. In two-price operating conditions, each circuit corresponds to a different price. Each circuit also has five connections, three of which (contacts 1, 2 and 3) are the common, normally open and normally closed contacts of a relay. The common circuit is fuse-protected. The other two connections (contacts 5 and 6) are the common and normally closed contacts of the other circuit of the same relay. COD: MNP27M01V03GBV00 (29/01/03) REVISION 0 PAGE 7 OF 28
3.4 Input circuits There are two input or control circuits which are totally independent of each other. Each circuit has two types of connections. One is the optically-coupled input for direct or alternate voltages of up to 230 volts. Depending on the control voltage, R1 will need to be adapted as shown on table 1. The factory setting for R1 is 12K for voltages of up to 24 volts. The other input is connected on one side to 0 volts internal power supply and on the other side to the selector control input. Both connections are separated with diodes. Free potential wires can be connected to short-circuit the input when desired. 9 5 OPERATING MODES There are basically three operating modes, called TIMER, VENDING TOTALISER or PULSE TOTALISER. In TIMER mode, the unit keeps a relay energised during a period of time determined by the amount of money inserted. The price of time is programmable. You can also programme bonuses for credit or coins. In addition, you can program inventory-related values, the time data format shown on the display and the conditions of the input signal to provide time discounts. In VENDING TOTALISER mode, the unit accumulates the value of the money inserted until a value is reached which energises the output relay. Two different prices can be programmed, in which case each price corresponds to each of the output relays. This mode also allows you to determine the time credit is used up and coin insertion inhibition. The display shows the amount reached and not discounted at all times. In PULSE TOTALISER the unit accumulates the value of the money inserted. When the amount reaches the programmed value, the output relay is energised through pulses and a pulse of a pre-determined length is sent. The remaining value of the money is kept and added to the value of other coins which may be inserted. If the accumulated amount is higher than the value of a pulse, a number of pulses equivalent to the remaining credit will be sent out. COD: MNP27M01V03GBV00 (29/01/03) REVISION 0 PAGE 9 OF 28

6 INSTALLATION Examine the unit location and identify the connection points, both power supply and control and output. Adapt the cable lengths to the connection needs and carry out all connections with power supply disconnected. For power supply connections, mentioned in point 3. pleas note the input voltage specifications Carry out the connections according to the following drawing: Attach the unit to its support. Turn the unit on. Program the unit if necessary. Carry out relevant tests inserting coins and observing whether the unit's behaviour coincides with the programmed function. 7 PROGRAMMING The operation of the CRONOS is determined by the way the T40 selector has been programmed. This programming is normally carried out in our factory, although users can also carry it out or reprogram the unit. This is particularly useful when you want to change the price or time assigned to a given value. Programming can be carried out automatically, using a T98 programmer, or manually, using the switches on the selector and inserting coins.. The T98 programmer is used at the factory or workshop or when a large number of selectors need to be programmed. COD: MNP27M01V03GBV00 (29/01/03) REVISION 0 PAGE 11 OF 28
