New Designs l July 2018 Beyond Borders was created in response to the beauty found even in the midst of the hardships and challenges of everyday life in Haiti. Using fair trade principles of fair wages and safe working conditions, Beyond Borders helps the Haitian community experience continued economic improvement and better lives through the creation and sharing of their beautiful art. We work with 100 artists in Croix des Bouquets, who have 150 assistants. Each piece they create is inspired by Haitian nature, culture or religion, and is handcrafted using recycled/upcycled 55-gallon steel oil drums. Beyond Borders carries more than 350 pieces, and reviews new designs from artists who us daily. Our product line is constantly changing, and we are pleased to offer new designs throughout the year. The process begins with artists creating design templates on cardboard sketching them on the metal drums carving and sculpting with simple tools then signing and varnishing the final piece.
