3 Since 1920, Loetscher has been creating chalet cuckoo clocks, using local materials. All of the initial steps involved in building the clocks are done in the woodworking facility in Brienz, the European capital of woodcrafting in the canton of Berne. Here our artisans hand-craft the chalets. The finished clock bodies are then brought to our facility in Faellanden, just outside Zurich, where the clockworks, music boxes and gears that enable the figurines to move are assembled and positioned into the clocks. And then finally, the weights and pendulums are added, completing the last steps of assembly. All of these processes are done by the hands of our skilled craftspeople. Eight Day with Music The cone weights take 8 days to go right down until they need to be rewound. 2 melodies (Edelweiss and The Happy Wanderer) play on the hour. The weights are for aesthetic purposes and are made of solid iron. International Guarantee All clocks with mechanical movement have a 3-year guarantee. All clocks with quartz units have a 2-year guarantee. 1

4 Swiss Chalet A Swiss chalet is a type of structure or house native to the Alpine region of Switzerland. Loetscher chalet cuckoo clocks are reproduction of chalets with finely detailed features including shutters, balconies, stairs and colorful geranium arrangements spilling over window boxes. Music Boxes Our clocks are fitted with music boxes made by Swiss music box company, Reuge. They add a stunning sound to our beautiful clocks. Heidi World-renown children s novel Heidi by Swiss writer Johanna Spyri, appears on many of our clocks. Heidi s story has been made into many movies and animation films. Saint Bernard Dog Barry The name of this iconic dog carrying the barrel around his neck is Barry and he was an actual mountain rescue dog which lived in the Swiss Alps in 18th century. He rescued more than 40 lives during his lifetime. His body is exhibited at Natural History Museum in Berne, Switzerland. Weights Our cone weights are made of solid iron. Earthquake Proof Our clocks have an earthquake safe feature. Night Feature : A manual switch that allows you to turn off the music and cuckoo sounds without interrupting the clock movement. 2

5 1. Wood The linden trees in and around Brienz produce wood that is ideal for carving the intricate and beautiful designs found on Loetscher clocks. The wood is aged for several years to ensure that our clocks won t warp or crack in either humid or drier environments. 2. Stones We search the fields and streams around Brienz and the banks of beautiful Lake Brienz for just the right rocks for our clocks. 3. Sand Carefully collected at the shores of Lake Brienz and colored by hand. 3

33 WE RE COUNTING DOWN THE CUCKOOS UNTIL SANTA COMES TO TOWN! With all the cheer of the season on our minds hot mulled wine, glistening snow drifts, delightful window decorations, the scent of freshly cut pine and fondue wafting through the house we felt inspired to create our first-ever tribute to Santa. Loetscher is very proud to introduce this spectacular, snow-blanketed Swiss chalet cuckoo clock. Our beloved Santa takes center stage on this edition of our cuckoo clock, driving a sleigh overflowing with Christmas gifts. Two of his devoted reindeers await his signal to take off into the night, clearly eager to deliver the gifts that children around the world are dreaming of. Off to the left side of scene stand three large, snow-covered pine trees flanking Santa s quaint chalet, and next to that, on a moving platform, a heart-melting image a baby deer tentatively finding his footing. A large, male reindeer stands lovingly and protectively over his precious offspring. Off to the right side of the scene is a charming little hut with three rotating levels, providing just a teasing glance at a few of Santa s presents all of which were made by hand with painstaking care from fine, delicate paper. Two hand-knit bags, made from Swiss cotton and filled with sand from Lake Brienz, adorn the top level of the little hut.
