2 Dear Children, Summer Vacation is synonymous with fun, frolic, getting up late in the morning, playing for longer hours with friends, going for picnics, exploring new places and watching fun filled shows on television. But dear children, there is a lot more you can do to make your vacation more interesting and meaningful, along with doing all your heart s desires. Here is a Summer Vacation Activity Treasure Box just for you. It will surely mould you for a better and successful forthcoming term. So get ready for your treasure hunt. Note: 1. All work to be done as per instructions given. Make a decorative paper bag / folder (with recycled material) to keep your holiday homework. 2. Parents, encourage your children to do the activities themselves. You may guide them, wherever necessary (Parent Engagement / Collaborative work). Pictures of work being done to be taken and a scrap book to be prepared. 3. Students own work will be appreciated, as it will give them a sense of achievement. 4. You need to submit the activities, when school re-opens. 5. All assignments of Hindi & Arabic are compulsory. All the other subjects, 1 assignment (of your choice) from each, is a must. If you wish to do more, go ahead. It will be beneficial, in every way.

3 1. Make a poster (Half chart size) under the banner I Love UAE. Be creative and show your passion for your Home away from Home. 2. Make an A 4 size album to show the aspects of progress in the UAE.

4 Do at least one of your choice (If you wish to do more, you may) I. Project Over a period of two months, collect all the things that mean something special to you and put them in a box. The things you collect could be anything from a ticket stub to a cricket game or an eraser that is shaped like your favorite superhero. Write down in a file about each item you collected and state why it is special to you. II. Make a Yearbook Kids love to hear about themselves, and reading about themselves is even better! This personal yearbook will help them gather and record all the important moments and facts about their lives plus, it makes a great keepsake. As your child works on his / her yearbook he / she will be practicing reading, writing, and Math, and you will have something to look back on later when preschool is a distant memory. What You Need Markers and crayons Family pictures Blank book or scrapbook Glue Tape measure What You Do The great thing about this yearbook is the fact that it s personal it can include whatever strikes your child s fancy. Start things off with a title page that includes your child s name, age, photo, and signature. Then, consider these ideas, that follow: 1. Self Portrait: At the beginning, ask your child to draw a self-portrait. Leave a few of the following pages blank, so she can do the same thing at later points in the year. You ll be surprised when you compare the pictures at year s end!

5 2. Measurements: How tall is your child? Measure her height, record her weight, and write down her shoe size. For a fun twist, you can also write down more obscure data, like her arm span or the circumference of her head. Leave some room, either below each entry, or on a following page, for updates throughout the year. 3. Favorite pages: What s your child s favorite number? His favorite color? His favorite book and his favorite toy? Who is his best friend? 4. When I grow up: Ask your child what he wants to be when he grows up, where he wants to live, and what he dreams his life will be like. Don t question his reasoning, just record. If he says he wants to live on a spaceship and you can come, too write that down as is. III. make a Holiday Journal with photographs and simple write ups. IV. Make flash cards showing different parts of a coconut tree. Also mention what each part is used for. Each flash card should be the size of an A4 sheet.

6 V. My animal story book using recycled materials Try to make use of as many animals as possible. VI. Vocabulary Hanging: Let's have fun with words. Make an attractive vocabulary hanging using the given stepsa. Pick out any one word from a book you read. b. Illustrate this word on a cardboard sheet. An example of the word "butterfly" is done for you. c. Make 3-4 small words on a cardboard sheet and make cutouts of any shape (circle, oval, square.) d. Hang it with a string to the main word cutout and the "Vocabulary hanging" is ready.

7 I. Use your creativity to make a wall hanging using geometrical shapes. You can use colored paper cut outs or decorate it by using 2D shapes. Objects like bindi, bangles, mirror of different shapes, studs, etc. II. Number Story : Make the story of any number of your choice using coloured sheets using the instructions given and with the help of the picture. Instructions: Take coloured sheets. Cut them into different shapes and sizes. Write your selected number at the top. Write Addition facts or subtraction facts for the number. Use markers/ sketch pens/ glitter pens to write your work. Paste them together onto a ribbon.

8 I. Fun with animals: Watch program on the Animal Planet, National Geography or Discovery channels. Make playing cards on any eight animals that you have watched on it. Cut A4 size sheet into 4 small, equal rectangular sheet. On each card paste or draw the animal on one side, mark it side 'A' Write different clues about its food, physical features etc. on the back of the card, mark it side 'B'. These cards can be used to play a game with your friends. Hide the picture on side A and ask your friend to identify the animal with the help of the clues given on side B. Create a poster and write an appropriate slogan!! East or West...Planet EARTH is the BEST!!!! We look HAPPY!!! Don't WE!!!!!!!...

9 III. Make a Self Portrait from Nature : Kids of all ages enjoy creating self-portraits. It's entertaining yet challenging to replicate one's own image in a realistic way. It's also interesting to witness how children see themselves. Want to add a unique twist to this activity? Add a little fun to the mix by having your child use nature as her palette. Whether it's a bit of grass for hair, some colorful rocks for eyes or even a flower petal to create lips, your child will have a blast using all that nature has to offer to create her very own natural self-portrait! This activity will help your child practice her planning skills, give her an opportunity to experiment with textures, shapes and colors, and allow her to tap into her imagination. IV. Yummy for the Tummy!!!!!!! Make your own vegetable salad and enjoy it with your family. An example of the salad recipe is given. Take boiled peas and potatoes. Cut the potatoes into small pieces and mix with peas in a bowl. Add salt and pepper and some lemon juice. You may add more vegetables like carrots, cucumber and tomatoes. On an A4 size paper, write your own recipe of the salad. Click some photographs of laying the table and enjoying the salad with your family. V. Family Tree Make your family tree on an A4 sheet as shown.

A Creative Mat Create a table mat of A-3 size Draw and colour or paint/tear and paste/picture collage of any of your favourite thing (cartoon characters, Math Tables, crossword puzzles, picture collage). Label it on the other side and get it laminated. II. Wall Hanging - Make a Maze with Drinking Straws! On those lazy afternoons, there s nothing like a fun puzzle or maze to keep your kid fascinated. You can find books of mazes in toy shops. But with a piece of corrugated cardboard, a marble, and some bendable drinking straws, you and your child can make a three-dimensional toy that you can enjoy again and again. Kids will benefit from this activity if you make the maze, but the learning will be even deeper if your child designs it herself. With these simple materials, that should be a snap!ty What You Need Flat piece of corrugated cardboard, 12 x 18 or so Box of bendable drinking straws Craft knife Plastic mesh bag, such as for onions or oranges Hot glue gun Ruler and pen Bright colored marker Marble

11 What You Do 1. Lay the corrugated cardboard on a flat surface, and start by marking a 1 square in the middle. Use the Exact knife to cut it out completely. This will be home base for your maze. 2. Turn the cardboard over. Cut out a 3 x 3 section of plastic netting, stretch it across the hole, and tape it down. 3. Now use your ruler and pen to mark out a maze with 1-inch channels, all the way out to the far edge of your cardboard. Be sure to create plenty of false turns and twists! When you reach the far corner of your maze, make a star with your marker that will be the starting point for your marble. 4. Lay the drinking straws along the maze lines, and glue them down with your hot glue gun or with strong craft glue. When the glue has dried, your child will have a fabulous maze toy to mess around with by the hour and you can feel satisfaction, too, in providing an activity that is so much fun while being great for learning, too.
