2018 Sumobot Rules PRINCIPLE Two robots clash on a circular black ground bordered by a white line: the "Dohyo". If the robot comes out or is pushed off the field, he is considered loosing the inning. The robot must push his opponent out of the field and thus be the last on the field to win the round. The Sumobot competition takes place in 3 double elimination tournaments (in 2 winning rounds). The first tournament is reserved for beginners equipped with à basic kit or slightly improved (you can buy kits on the website). The second tournament is reserved for confirmed participants, having a highly improved kit or an independently developed robot. The choice is made at the time of registration on the official website but judges may be required to outclass a robot if it is too advanced for the tournament reserved for beginners. The last tournament takes place in collaboration. Two teams of two robots compete simultaneously. The winning team is the one with at least one robot remaining on the Dohyo at the end of the fight. This tournament is geared towards confirmed participants looking for new challenges. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the two categories (Beginner & Expert) STRESS The robots must be completely autonomous: any action on the part of a competitor influencing their operation is strictly prohibited (remote control, influence on the sensors, etc.). Ideally, they have a start button that will be activated by the participant at the beginning of the round. In the case of the cooperative tournament, a wireless communication (bluetooth type) between
robots of the same team is possible. This communication must not intentionally disturb the opponents' robots and must not be modified during the match by the participants. In any case it is possible to communicate the robot with an external computer to unload the microcontroller robot part of the operations as it does not involve direct action of the participant. After activation, they must respect a minimum waiting time DIMENSIONS: At the beginning of the round, the robot must have a base of 10x10cm maximum. The height is not limited. It can however, after the 5 seconds regulation, occupy a larger space without limit. WEIGHT: less than or equal to 500g all inclusive. The robot must degrade neither the Dohyo nor the opposing robot (metal tip, studded wheels, jack-based systems or other too powerful, etc.). Rocking the opposing robot is tolerated. The robot must not interfere with the operation of the opposing robot and its sensors. Therefore, it must not contain any white parts close to the ground that can be confused with the edge of the Dohyo. Similarly, it must not emit blinding light, infrared or ultrasonic signals other than those required for its own sensors. The robot must not emit projections (objects, powder, liquid, gas, etc.). Compressed air is tolerated to a certain extent (to be validated on a case by case basis). In the case of an object, it is considered a projection as soon as it is no longer attached to the robot. This implies that the robot must not lose parts on the ground. The robot must not use a system that blocks it on site: glue, suction cup, vacuum cleaner, etc. These systems are tolerated if they are used for movement and they follow the other rules. Flying robots are not forbidden but they must respect a limit of 10 seconds without contact with the Dohyo once the white line is exceeded. When using a lithium-based battery (Li-Po, Li-ion, etc.), the entire team should be aware of the safety regulations in force. It is mandatory to connect a low voltage detection system. If the robot does not respect one of these rules during qualifying, it will be able to pass them after the other robots. If it's his turn to fight, he loses the match. The non-respect of these constraints leads to the non qualification of the robot or the loss of the sleeve
RUNNING A COMBAT GROUND: the Dohyo is circular, has a diameter of 77cm, a thickness of 2.2cm and a border of 2.5cm. It is made of wood, covered with a matt black paint for the interior and a glossy white paint for its border. An area of one meter around the Dohyo is guaranteed to be free so as not to disturb the sensors of robots (physical objects or light sources). A fight between two opponents takes place in three rounds (2 winning rounds). A round lasts a maximum of 3 minutes. If the sleeve seems blocked, the referee can decide to stop it before the end of the time, and after a countdown of 10 seconds minimum. He then raises a new round. At startup, the robots are 15cm apart, positioned at the ends of a 10x15cm wedge placed in the center of the field. There are several starting configurations (see below). Their order is not fixed and returns to the referee who chooses one of three possible configurations in each round. It must use all three configurations before reusing one (for example: it is impossible to reuse configuration 1 if configurations 2 and 3 have not yet been used). One participant from each team stays around the Dohyo to activate his robot on the "top" of the referee then backs off.
The card containing the program, or the default robot, must be restarted between each round. Between matches, participants are allowed to make changes to their robots. They are mechanical, electronic or code, and the robot will have to replay the qualifications to be able to resume the competition. Between the rounds of the same match, only quick repairs can be made. START CONFIGURATIONS The robots are positioned so that their left side is against the hold (Figure 1). Robots are positioned so that their right side is against the hold (Figure 2). Both robots are positioned back to back on their respective starting marks (Figure 3). If the front of the robot is not easily identifiable, a marker will be placed during qualifying to facilitate its placement (non-permanent sticky element and not counted for the weight limit). For the collaborative tournament, the starting positions for the three rounds are as follows: Configuration 1: The robots of the same team are placed face to face (figure 4). Configuration 2: The robots of the same team are placed side by side, facing the robots of the opposing team (figure 5). Configuration 3: The robots are placed in such a way that everyone faces an opponent (Figure 6).
If the front of the robot is not easily identifiable, a marker will be placed during qualifying to facilitate its placement (non-permanent sticky element and not counted for the weight limit). POINTS AND BENEFITS: A match ends as soon as one of the robots has 2 points. Two advantages make it possible to obtain 1 point. To earn 1 point: The opposing robot does not respect one of the constraints mentioned above. The main part (body) of the opposing robot touches the medium on which the Dohyo is placed (and the other robot is still in play at the moment the opponent leaves). Lost Fighting To gain an advantage: If the round reaches 3 minutes or seems blocked, the referee can assign an advantage over his sole judgment to the robot he considers the most combative (optional). If a low-voltage lithium battery sensing system activates during a fight, the current round is stopped and an advantage is given to the non-affected robot.
In the case where the robot loses pieces or a set of pieces during a fight, it can not gain any more point for this round but it continues: If he wins the round, he does not get a point and a new round is played; If the round is blocked, the opposing robot has an advantage; If the opposing robot wins the round, he gets one point; Vivatech and the ESIEESPACE association wish you all the best and the best robot wins! This regulation governs the Sumobot competition of the association Esieespace.
