2 PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release Let Me Freeze Your Head By Neil McArthur Let Me Freeze Your Head is a one person show about cryonic preservation. Neil is a former philosophy professor who has given up everything to work for Cryoncor, the world leader in cryonic technology. Now he travels the world telling people about the miraculous future that awaits those who are brave enough to have their heads cut off and frozen. He tells the story of how he came to believe in cryonics, by introducing the audience to four severed, frozen human heads. He explains how he came to know each of them, and the role they each played in his personal journey. Angelika is a scientist from Poland and the inventor of modern cryonic technology. Ted Williams is one of the greatest hitters in baseball history. John Henry is his devoted son, who convinced Ted to be preserved in the hope they might have more time together in the future. And Gwen is Neil s magnetic former girlfriend, who succumbed to cancer before she and Neil could make peace with their past. The play is written, directed and performed by Neil McArthur. Neil is a professor of Philosophy and Director of the Centre for Professional and Applied Ethics at the University of Manitoba. The play is his theatrical debut. 3 SYNOPSIS Neil wants to make you an offer. But first he wants to show you what s inside the box he carries with him: four severed, frozen human heads. Neil used to be a philosophy professor. But he gave up everything to go work for Cryoncor, the world s leader in human cryonic preservation. Now he travels the world telling people about the miraculous process that can allow them to live forever. To explain how he became a believer, he introduces each of the heads, and explains the role that each of them played in his personal journey. First is Angelika, a scientist from Poland and the founder of Cryoncor. Neil met her in Los Angeles two decades ago. He tells how, during a long night of drinking, she opened his mind to the possibilities of cryonics and the philosophy behind the life extension movement. Neil also introduces Ted Williams, one of the greatest hitters in Major League Baseball history, who was preserved thanks to his son John Henry. Neil tells the story of Ted and John Henry, who only got to know each other late in Ted s life, when their time had almost run out. They looked to cryonics as a way to give them back some of the time they had lost. Diagnosed with leukemia, John Henry was preserved a year after his father. Finally, Neil introduces Gwen, his magnetic former girlfriend. Their relationship was passionate and stormy, and she lost her body to cancer before the two of them could make peace with their past. Neil leaves the audience with the question: Are you ready to sign up? Why leave the future for your children when you could have it for yourselves?

4 BIOGRAPHY Neil McArthur (lead actor, writer, director, producer) is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Centre for Professional and Applied Ethics at the University of Manitoba. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. His work has appeared in publications such as Time, Aeon, and Psychology Tomorrow. He is author of the book David Hume s Political Theory. He co- directed (with Warren Cariou) two films about the impact of oil sands development on the indigenous communities of northern Alberta: Land of Oil and Water, and Overburden. The films screened at film festivals around the world, and aired nationally on APTN. He wrote and directed the short claymation film The History of Stand- Up Comedy, which premiered at the Montreal International Film Festival. Let Me Freeze Your Head is his theatrical debut, both as a playwright and as an actor. It makes its world premiere at the Toronto Fringe Festival. It is also part of this year s Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival (July 13-24).
