A brilliant colorist and innovative draftsman,baroccireinterpretedtraditionalreligiousnarrativesincompellingways.heinventednewdrawingtypes,andwasoneof thefirstitalianartiststousepastelandoilpaintinhisdrawings,therebyincorporatingcolorintohisstudies.theexhibitiongrouped preparatorystudieswithfinishedpaintings,enablingvisitorstoseehowbaroccidevelopedcompositions,lighting,expression,and gesture. Text panels gave overviews of iconography, design process, and the role each exhibited drawing played. The first monographic exhibition ever held in the U.S. of Barocci s paintings and drawings, the show was designed to introduce BaroccitoanAmericanaudience.Remarksleftinthecommentbooksindicatethatexhibitionviewerswerehighlyenthusiasticabout theartist.thecarefulselectionof16keypaintingsand134masterdrawings,fromover40collectionsaroundtheworld,conveyed Barocci srichcolor,naturalisticrenderingofthehumanbody,anddynamicspatialconfigurationsthatprefigured17thcenturyart.
