Anthony Fokker: The Flying Dutchman Who Shaped American Aviation Comprehensive biography of Anthony Fokker, the famed Dutch pilot and daredevil aviator Anthony Fokker: The Flying Dutchman Who Shaped American Aviation tells the larger-than-life true story of maverick pilot and aircraft manufacturer Anthony Fokker. Fokker came from an affluent Dutch family and developed a gift for tinkering with mechanics. Despite not receiving a traditional education, he stumbled his way into aviation as a young stunt pilot in Germany in He survived a series of spectacular airplane crashes and rose to fame within a few years. A combination of industrial espionage, luck, and deception then propelled him to become Germany's leading aircraft manufacturer during World War I, making him a multimillionaire by his midtwenties.
When the German Revolution swept the country in 1918 and 1919, Fokker made a spectacular escape to the United States. He set up business in New York and New Jersey in 1921, and shortly thereafter became the world's largest aircraft manufacturer. The U.S. Army and Navy acquired his machines, and his factories equipped legendary carriers such as Pan American and TWA at the dawn of commercial air transport. Yet despite his astounding success, his empire collapsed in the late 1920s after a series of ill-conceived business decisions and deeply upsetting personal dramas. In 1927, aviator Richard Byrd solicited a Fokker threeengine plane to be the first to fly non-stop across the Atlantic. The plane was damaged on a test flight and Charles Lindbergh beat him to it. Lindbergh's solo adventure in the Spirit of St. Louis earned him--and cost Fokker--a lasting place in the history books. Using previously undiscovered records and primary sources, Marc Dierikx traces Fokker's extraordinary life and celebrates his spectacular achievements. The Fokker-Planck Equation: Methods of Solution and Applications (Springer Series in Synergetics) This is the first textbook to include the matrix continuedfraction method, which is very effective in dealing with simple Fokker- Planck equations having two variables. Other methods covered are the simulation method, the eigen-function expansion, numerical integration, and the variational method. Each solution is applied to the statistics of a simple laser model and to Brownian motion in potentials. The whole is rounded off with a supplement containing a short review of new material together with some recent references. This new study edition will prove to be very useful for graduate students in physics, chemical physics, and electrical engineering, as well as for research workers in these fields. Fokker Dr I Aces of World War I (Osprey Aircraft of the Aces No 40) Undoubtedly the most famous fighter type to see service on either side during World War 1, the Fokker Dr I was a revelation when it entered service on the western front in Manfred von Richthofen's JG 1 'circus' was the first Jasta to completely re-equip with the new fighter, and in the skilled hands of its numerous aces the Dr I proved a formidable opponent. The Dr I remained in service on the Western Front until replaced
by the superior Fokker D VII in May Just weeks prior to that, however, Germany's leading ace, the great 'Red Baron', had been killed at the controls of a Dr I. SPAD XIII vs Fokker D VII: Western Front (Duel) Having established its SPAD VII as the most effective French fighter of 1916, the Societé Pour l'aviation at ses Dérivés strove to improve the model with a 220hp Hispano Suiza 8B engine and two machine guns. Despite initial teething troubles with the new engine, by mid-1918 the SPAD XIII had taken its place as the principal fighter of both France and the US. Meanwhile, the German quest for a successor for their structurally flawed Albatros D V finally bore fruit with the Fokker D VII. Entering combat in May 1918, this plane earned a reputation as the most formidable fighter of the war, yet the SPAD XIII's greater speed, especially in a dive, and its outstanding durability, proved a fearsome rival. This is the gripping story of two of the best fighters produced in World War I - the SPAD XIII and the Fokker D VII - as they dueled in the skies above the trenches in the closing months of the war. Never before published artwork, including fascinating cockpit illustrations, reveal several dramatic clashes between the two foes while diary entries and first-hand accounts from the pilots bring this classic World War I duel to life with intimate detail. Fokker E.V/D.VIII (Polish Wings) The next book in the popular Polish Wings series is on the famous German WWI fighters in Polish Air Forces. Covers duty of these aircraft during Polish-Bolsheviks war and early 1920s. More than 120 photos, mostly unpublished, and many color profiles. Sopwith Camel vs Fokker Dr I: Western Front (Duel) Amid the continuous struggle for aerial superiority during World War 1, two aircraft types were at the forefront. Both rotary-engined fighters, the Sopwith Camel and the Fokker Dr I triplane were relatively slow for their time, but were regarded as the most maneuverable machines produced during the conflict, and the classic pair for a tight, evenly matched dogfight at close quarters. In this book Jon Guttman examines the fascinating story of the design and development of these deadly foes. First-hand accounts and innovative cockpit-view artwork give a thrilling insight into the pilots' experiences during the world's first aerial duels and explain their successes
and failures. Fokker D.VII: The Lethal Weapon (Legends of Aviation 3D) World War I was the time of dynamic development of aviation. Aircraft created during that period and pilots who fought in them, became legends that have fascinated generations of pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Legends of Aviation in 3D is a publishing series with a goal to present legendary aircraft from the pioneer era of military aviation in an innovative way. Thanks to color 3D renderings we can almost touch the Fokker D.VII, see its details, get to know its meticulous airframe structure and understand the phenomenon of this legendary aircraft. With the virtual Fokker D.VII, Marek Ry? inspires us to explore the history of the aircraft afresh. The modern 3D images impressively harmonize with the old photographs. Tomasz Kowalski tells us the story of pilots flying the new Fokker biplanes and takes us to the dark and romantic period of the Great War when knights of the sky were born and killed. We are convinced that Tomasz Kowalski and Marek Ry? s publication is a valuable addition to literature concerning the legendary Fokker D.VII and simultaneously a successful and exceptional attempt to present the earliest history of aviation in an original way. We have made all efforts to make the layout and quality of the series fulfill the needs of our readers. See: Nieuport 11/16 Bébé vs Fokker Eindecker: Western Front 1916 (Duel) The Nieuport 11 boasts an important place in the technology race against German aircraft in World War I aerial warfare. It eventually led Nieuport to produce the first plane flown in large numbers in aerial combat by the United States. The appearance in July 1915 of Germany's Fokker E I, armed with interrupter gear that allowed its machine gun to fire forward without
striking the propeller, heralded a reign of terror over the Western Front that the Allies called the "Fokker Scourge". Among several alternative means for countering the Fokkers, until the Allies introduced practical synchronisation mechanisms of their own, was the French Nieuport - 11 a single-seat version of the Nieuport 10 sesquiplane ("one-and-a-half wing") mounting a Lewis machine gun above the upper wing, firing over the airscrew. Nicknamed the Bébé because of its comparatively small size, the Nieuport 11 was, though less robust than true biplanes, superior in structure and overall performance to the German monoplane. During 1916 the Nieuport 11, and its more powerful but more difficult to control stablemate, the Nieuport 16, battled a succession of improved Fokkers, the E II, E III and E IV, until the Germans abandoned the monoplane in favour of a new and deadly generation of biplane fighters. Even so, the Bébé's early successes also influenced the Germans to adopt sesquiplane designs of their own - most notably the Albatros D III and D V - while Nieuport also held on to the sesquiplane format longer than it should have. Fully illustrated with specially commissioned full-colour artwork, this is the absorbing story of the clash between these two innovative fighters at the height of World War I. Fokker D.VII: Kaiser s Best Fighter (Famous Airplanes) When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up the spoils. (Luke 11: 21-22) The above words taken from the Gospel according to St. Luke perfectly reflect the conditions in which a defeated Germany was put by the victorious Allied powers. Item 4 of the Armistice of November 11, 1918 demanded immediate demobilization of Germany s air force and the surrender of 2,000 military aircraft, particularly Fokker D.VIIs. The Fokker D.VIl was the only type listed by name for what reason? Why should this machine have been of such particular importance to those dictating the armistice conditions? The answer is simple and obvious: the Fokker D.VII clearly outclassed the machines operated by the victorious coalition s air
forces. It was a design that was to influence many fighters conceived in the inter-war period and was good enough to remain in service with various air forces until the mid-thirties. The Fokker-Planck Equation for Stochastic Dynamical Systems and Its Explicit Steady State Solutions (SERIES ON ADVANCES IN MATHEMATICS FOR APPLIED SCIENCES) This is an analysis of multidimensional nonlinear dissipative Hamiltonian dynamical systems subjected to parametric and external stochastic excitations by the Fokker-Planck equation method.the author answers three types of questions concerning this area. First, what probabilistic tools are necessary for constructing a stochastic model and deriving the FKP equation for nonlinear stochastic dynamical systems? Secondly, what are the main results concerning the existence and uniqueness of an invariant measure and its associated stationary response? Finally, what is the class of multidimensional dynamical systems that have an explicit invariant measure and what are the fundamental examples for applications?
