2 Description: In this thesis, seven antennas are designed and the performance of the antennas is analyzed for WLAN/WiMAX, GPS, indoor wireless applications and 5G wireless applications. For these applications, the microstrip antenna is analyzed for dual-band, triple band, and wideband. The operating bands of the designed antennas are L-band, C-band and S-band. Dual-band and triple-band antennas play an important role in the present wireless communication systems for integrating different communication standards in a single antenna system. Size reduction plays a major role in indoor wireless applications. One major drawback associated with the reduction in patch size is degradation in the antenna performance in terms of gain, bandwidth, and efficiency. Hence, a trade-off between the size of the antenna and its performance to meet the requirements of wireless applications is always required. Seven antennas are reported in this work. Two dual band antennas are proposed for WLAN/WiMAX applications. A dual band antenna with the presence of a metamaterial structure has offered a gain improvement over an antenna without metamaterial structure. Two antennas are designed for triple frequency operation. In this, one antenna without metasurface is designed for WLAN/WiMAX applications. The second antenna is designed with a metasurface and is useful for 5G wireless applications such as, IoT, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. An improvement in the radiation efficiency is noted in the presence of metasurface. These triple-band antennas are simulated, fabricated and tested. One drawback associated with a microstrip antenna is, its low bandwidth. Hence, by using a combination of E strip and U strip bandwidth of a MIMO antenna is improved. Bandwidth of a dual band antenna is improved with the help of a pulse slot on a circular patch. A defected ground plane is employed in this design. This dual band antenna is useful for GPS/WiMAX applications. Size reduction is always necessary in any antenna design. Miniaturization of the microstrip antenna can be achieved with a combination of metamaterial and metasurface. A size reduction of 73.17% is obtained compared to a conventional microstrip antenna. In general as the size of the antenna reduces, performance of the antenna deteriorates in terms of gain. However, the presence of metamaterial, metasurface and a combination of the two is able to improve the antenna parameters i.e., gain, bandwidth and efficiency. A detailed comparison is given in the report. Out of seven antennas designed and simulated, three antennas are fabricated and results are verified with the simulated ones.
3 Most of the dual-band, triple-band, and wide-band antennas reported in the literature have low gain, low efficiency, and narrow bandwidth. An attempt is made to improve these parameters by exploring the concept of metamaterial, metasurface, E strip, U strip and the usage of defected ground plane. To compare and present a detailed report on the state of the art microstrip antenna designs. To propose new techniques for improving the bandwidth, and gain of microstrip antennas. To publish high quality research paper relevant to this work. 1. Implementation Of 1D &2D Transforms Using Blackfin ADSP. 1D&2D DFT and 1D&2D DCT have been achieved. (2004). 2. Simulation and Hardware Implementation of Decoding Algorithms For Error Correction Of Reed-Solomon Codes.
