1 RPS Overview Referee Paging System RPS 2056 User manual The REFEREE PAGING SYSTEM RPS2056 supports the linesman to get attention of the referee by sending a signal via radio. The RPS2056 is the follow-up model of the RPS2016/RPS series. 2. The Flag (Transmitter) The transmitter is integrated in the handle of the linesman s flag and sends a coded signal to the referee s receiver. By pressing one of the two buttons, vibration can be felt. The bar is screwed into the handle and can be replaced easily. Also the battery cover (bayonet) can be removed and/or fastened by easy turn. Check & operation The following parts should be checked before each game: bar in the handle battery cover and rubber coat To send a signal to the referee push one of the two buttons. They are placed opposite and make it simple to be pressed. By pressing one of the two buttons, vibration can be felt. 2 Replacing the bar Remove: turn the bar counter clockwise away from the handle Assemble: turn the bar with light pressure clockwise into the handle Attention: Use a drop of oil and care for correct guidance of the antenna! bar handle battery 9V buttons battery cover colour coded 3. The Pager (Receiver) The Receiver, mounted in a small black box (Pager), is carried by the referee, strapped at the upper part of the arm. The signal transmitted by the linesman generates either a low (linesman 1) or a high (linesman 2) acoustic signal and a pulsing vibration at the referee s receiver. Different way of vibration depending on linesman 1 or 2. Replace the battery and/or the arm strap by removing the bottom plate. Start-up LED Press the ON / OFF button. The receiver is equipped with battery check The LED indicates the followed status of the pager. The battery is good: if the LED shines green, a tone sequence with rising pitch rings out and the vibrator is vibrating with short impulses. The capacity of the battery is end of life: if the LED shines red and three deep tones rings out, the vibrator remains switched off To turn OFF the pager press the ON / OFF button until a deep tone is recognisable. 3 Indication of the operation status The LED indicates the 3 status of the pager. LED OFF: Pager OFF LED flashing green: Pager ready for use LED flashing red: the Pager battery should be replaced LED orange ON: Pager receives signal from a linesman To turn OFF the pager press the ON / OFF button until a deep tone sequence is recognisable. Changing the battery screws The pager runs with a 9V battery (Recommended battery type is Duracell PROCELL). Untie the four screws at the bottom plate with the included screwdriver and lift the plate. The polarity is given by the battery-clip. Attention: In case of mismatching the polarity the pager might be damaged! Beep settings Beep settings: The beep can be set as follows: switch 5 activates or deactivates the beep: switch 5 OFF beep deactivated switch 5 ON beep activated switch 6 changes the beep volume: switch 6 OFF low volume switch 6 ON high volume ON OFF Do not change the settings of switch 1 to 4. They are used for system configuration. The function can not be guaranteed if changing these settings. 4. 4 5. Coding To prevent interruption or disturbance due to other transmission sources a complex coding and decoding system is used on the signal transmitted from linesman to the referee. When both linesmen send a message at the exactly same time, or in case a strong transmitting source interferes with the system, no decoding takes place and no signal is generated at the referee s pager. When two games take place within 200 meters you should use systems with different coding configuration to prevent interferences. The coding configuration is set by the manufacturer. The colour logo on the pager and the battery cover of the transmitters (brown, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, grey and white) is meant as its identification. colour coding of the pager colour coding of the transmitters 6. Warranty One year warranty is provided on all material and production failure caused during normal use of the system. Warranty is excluded for batteries, for misuse or improper handling or maintenance of the system components. Other maintenance than exchanging of batteries, replacing the bar and cleaning components with a dry cloth is not allowed. 7. System maturity and practical experience The REFEREE PAGING SYSTEM is developed in co-operation with international referees. The system has been tested by the Swiss referees since the beginning of 1994 during the Swiss national competition, the international Euro-Cup events, the UEFA European Championship in England and the Olympic Football Tournaments ATLANTA 96. The results were very satisfying.
