Installation, Wiring and Controls for STEP Warmfloor 1
What We Learned From Previous Webinars How to sell the STEP Warmfloor product through reliability, energy efficiency, simplicity and safety The many applications that are available to utilize the product to gain more revenue for your business How floor covering and insulation have an effect on performance and meeting customers expectations Dennis 2
Planning Your STEP Warmfloor Installation Review the worksheets and layout diagram Understand there is a limitation on secondary wires lengths Determine Transformer and thermostat location Determine type of control or regulator 3
Planning Your STEP Warmfloor Installation Insure materials used with installation are compatible Follow local codes and manufacturers instructions Use components recommended by manufacturer 4
STEP Warmfloor Components Thermostat Power supply Heating element 5
EPI-LX Thermostat Series EPI-LX-TH Non-programmable 15 minute heating cycles Air and/or floor temperature sensing EPI-LX-SEN EPI-LX-THPR Programmable 15 minute heating cycles Air and/or floor temperature sensing EPI-LX-SEN 6
EPI-LX Sen Temperature sensing only - not a high limit sensor! A mode controls ambient air temp F mode- utilizes floor sensor, thermostats ignores air temperature AF Mode- monitors air and floor temperatures Installation note Run sensor wire through conduit and place between heating elements 7
EPI-LX-R Power Supply 8
EPI-LX-R Power Supply 9
Control Options Micro Program controller Line voltage Time controller Small applications On/Off switch Switches primary supply voltage Utilize in bathrooms. 10
Benefits of the STEP Power Supply Designed to be easy to install and fit in wall cavity Trusted, refined, and perfected regulation technology Maximizes energy efficiency of the STEP Warmfloor system ETL Approved 10 years warranty 11
The STEP Power Supply Rating of the STEP Power Supply The primary voltage is 120, 208 or 240 VAC The secondary voltage is normally 24V. The transformer has circuit breakers on the primary and on the secondary. 12
EPI-LX-R Power Supply Series 13
EPI-LX Power Supply Energy Efficient Toroidal Coils Benefits of toroidal coils Toroidal coils with winding built around ring-shaped core creates minimal mechanical hum Toroidal coils are more efficient (100%) Low exterior magnetic field 14
STEP Warmfloor Worksheets 15
Transformer Installation Bumpers will reduce vibrations transmitted from power supply chassis 16

Before You Begin Understand the system in more detail Speed will come with experience Understand watts/lineal foot relationship to design your own systems on the fly! 22
Tools Required For Installation Crimp tool is required on STEP Warmfloor applications 23
24
25
26
Installation of STEP Warmfloor system require specific wires and connectors to comply with the ANSI/UL approval EXTENSION WIRE Extension wire for field wiring from power supply to elements #14, #12 or #10 AWG stranded tinned copper CONNECTOR & TAPE Tinned copper crimp connectors Insulating electrical moisture sealant tape CRIMP TOOL Used to crimp CON-DB crimp connector. TOOL-PRO ratchet crimp tool is required as it is specially designed to properly crimp CON-DB crimp connector. 27
Connect Elements Cut the bus braid, exposing 1 of bus braid Connect bus braid to extension wire (PVC copper tinned 105 wire only) with crimp. Tape connectors Differentiate polarities of wire using black and white conductors 28
Connecting the elements 29
Connecting the elements 30
Securing the Element Wood subfloors - staples or nails every 2 feet, keeping element flat Hot melt glue- quarter size every 2 feet, keeping element flat Thin Set- industry methods Self leveler-industry methods 31
Lunch and a Installation Video 32
Wiring Options Elements are connected in parallel do not exceed 225 Watts. The elements can be wired directly to the interface board on the transformer Each design quote distributes evenly the load from the elements to each circuit breaker: EPI-LX-500VA = 2 connection s@ 225W EPI-LX-1000VA = 4 connection s@ 225W EPI-LX-1500VA = 6 connection s@ 225W Terminal block(s) may be needed if the transformer is a long distance from the elements. Maximum total load per circuit is 450 Watts. 33
34
Installation example 35
Polarity of Element Layout 36
Terminal Block For long wiring distance between transformer and element The heating elements can be routed directly to the transformer or if needed to a terminal block All wires to the elements in the floor must be PVC insulated, stranded, tinned copper, minimum #14AWG (2mm 2 ) Use 10 ga wire or larger conductor to transformer depended upon distance and load (watts) Each T-Block can handle 450 watts 37
Fail Safe Wiring This method avoids the elements to short out and is used for installations that are not embedded in concrete or leveling compound and for between joist applications The heating elements can be routed directly to the transformer or if needed to a terminal block All wires to the elements in the floor must be PVC insulated, stranded, tinned copper, minimum #14AWG (2mm 2 ) 38
Document Your Work Take pictures Mark wires with element number (s) Complete warranty forms and forward to manufacturer or distributor Apply caution labels to electrical panel Enjoy a lifetime of comfort and efficiency 39
