3 ElectroScience History Established in 1941 with a vision to become a multidisciplinary institute (as stated in Sinclair s IEEE Magazine article). How it all started: Prof. William Everitt obtained a contract to measure antenna patterns on aircraft and tanks. Everitt was subsequently recruited to the U. of Illinois (UIUC) and his student George Sinclair became the PI of the project. Rumsey (inventor of frequency independent antennas) will become director in The current model of faculty advising multiple grad students to carry out their research was promoted by Rumsey. Rumsey was eventually recruited to UIUC and then moved to UCSD, where he is prominently remembered. Tice (1954) and later Levis became Directors First ever Antenna Measurement
